Performance Time: c. 4:20 About the Work To compose this work I have been inspired by the third of Mendelssohn's Three Motets op. 69, 'Herr, nun lässest du'.
I have tried to present an image of both endearing tenderness (the elderly Simeon with the Infant Jesus in his arms) and majesty and solemnity, which reaches its climax in 'glory of thy people Israel'. It ends with the minor doxology and a coda reflecting a serene and confident attitude to the twilight of life. Nunc Dimittis was premiered by NEOVOCALIS, conducted by myself, on 2 April 2022 whitin the HOPE project. Rafael Sánchez Mombiedro
About me I am an active choral composer, arranger, director, and a professor of Improvisation based in Valencia, Spain. Choral music has been my passion since my childhood. I started my musical training in my hometown as a chorister at the ‘Escolanía de la Virgen’. The training of those years still influences my compositions (which are mostly sacred) and arrangements for choir and piano. In 2003, I founded the all-professional chamber choir, NEOVOCALIS, which specializes in contemporary choral music. The ensemble has premiered most of my compositions under my direction.
