The Composer: Nicholas Wright (b. 1991) Nicholas (Nick) Wright regularly contributes to works of vocal and instrumental music as an arranger, composer, orchestrator, adjudicator, and clinician. His award-winning arrangements and compositions have been performed in a variety of venues including Carnegie Hall in New York; the World Expo in Shanghai, China; India’s most sacred performance space, Kalakshetra. Nick currently lives in Cincinnati, OH where he works as a composer and arranger. Since 2008 he has written for scholastic, semi-professional, and professional ensembles around the world.

Performance notes from the composer “[He Wishes For] The Cloths Of Heaven” is one of the most popular poems by Irish poet, William Butler Yeats. Written entirely as a single verse, the poem is a profound take on unrequited love that can be divided into three parts: the wish, the offer, and the request. I was immediately drawn to this poem for its simple structure and for Yeats’ preference for powerful imagery as a technique to send his message.
