The text of this work reflects on acceptance of loss through the lens of watching flowers wilt and fade away. This setting wanders from key to key on a meandering path between grief and acceptance, using a soprano solo to highlight both the voice of the child poet, Hilda Conkling, and the voice of the composer, who wrote this in response to the loss of his grandparents in 2021.
