English Translation Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
Performance Time: c. 5:20 About the Work I dedicated this Ave Maria to the memory of my mother, who passed away in 2018. It is a dense work, intimate and dramatic at the same time, and it has a structure in three sections. After a Trinitarian introduction (three greetings from the angel to the Virgin), the first section begins with a simple and innocent melody in the Altos, which the Sopranos take and in constant crescendo reaches its climax with an apotheosis 'Jesus'. In the second section, the Tenors begin a melody that imitates a faithful supplicant at the feet of the Virgin Mary. Canonical imitations appear between Sopranos and Tenors until the end of the chaotic and dramatic section. The third section begins with the main theme that emerges imposing, solemn and grandiose, with a dense orchestral texture that concludes in a forceful 'Amen'. The final coda of a serene and peaceful repetition of the introduction.
This work was released by NEOVOCALIS on December 12, 2020 within the CHRISTMAS EVE project, conducted by myself. Rafael Sánchez Mombiedro About me I am an active choral composer, arranger, director, and a professor of Improvisation based in Valencia, Spain. Choral music has been my passion since my childhood. I started my musical training in my hometown as a chorister at the “Escolanía de la Virgen”. The training of those years still influences my compositions (which are mostly sacred) and arrangements for choir and piano. In 2003, I founded the all-professional chamber choir, NEOVOCALIS, which specializes in contemporary choral music. The ensemble has premiered most of my compositions under my direction.
