WELCOME LETTER
Welcome to the New Hampshire Film Festival Program
Producing NHFF is a year-long endeavor, with so many who contribute to make sure your time in Portsmouth is entertaining, educational, enlightening and just plain fun. That is what we strive for when putting together so many films and events for you. And we strive to give you the info you need to make decisions on what to see and attend. But I’ll give you a hint, see and attend everything. Here is how to make sure you are in the know on all things NHFF: Download the NHFF app by scanning the QR code below. You will be able to follow the schedules, as well as get the most up to date information. Plus you will be able to vote on films, which helps determine award winners. Follow NHFF on the social sites. Be sure to tag us in your posts! #nhff2026 Talk with the festival crew (look for us wearing our fest shirts). Ask us where everything is, where you need to be, recommendations for food and drinks, or just chat with us about all things cinema and the Seacoast. Here is an obvious one: socialize with your fellow festgoers. Remember to ask for their thoughts on what they have seen and liked, and why they love NHFF. Give them your thoughts. Many festgoers make decisions based on recommendations, so offer them up to those you talk with. Chat with filmmakers and those in the industry. You will see them at Q&As, panels, and at every venue, so afterward talk with them about their work, their next projects, and why they love NHFF so much. As this program is a taste of what is in store, it will help give you a sense of what to expect this year, as well as what NHFF is all about. Incredibly diverse programming, with quality films spanning the globe. Many of our titles premiered at Cannes, Venice, Sundance, and Tribeca. You will see incredible films such as Rose, Look Back, Soul Patrol, Carl Sagan: We Are Made of Star Stuff, Fatherland, and so many more. For all things NHFF, the app, film guide, program, and nhfilmfestival.com will be your resources. We hope you will be educated and entertained at this year's festival. Have a wonderful time! Mark Pruett Director of Cinema Programming & Festivals
Please note, the film lineup and schedule is subject to change. Please check your resources above for the latest information.

AWARDS & RECOGNITION
2026 NHFF SCREENPLAY COMPETITION
It was again the largest year yet for the NHFF Screenplay Competition, which continues to grow in both quantity and quality, since it was introduced in 2002. The submissions featured some especially creative and competitive material, making the process difficult for our committee to determine the finalists we proudly list below. This year’s special guest industry judge, Shelby Gaines, will decide our 2026 Best Screenplay Award. Star Island will once again host our award winner for a one-week residency at the Star Island Family Retreat and Conference Center. The prize package includes room, board, and more— for two guests.
SCREENPLAY FINALISTS
Eureka Written by Diana Nicole Harvey
Estranged sisters Jolene and Andrea reluctantly reunite to drive their father to a memory care facility in Northern California.
How I Used To Be Written by Gisela Maioli
Lara had a happy childhood until her parents died when she was only 12, upending her life. Learning by trial and error, she discovered that she is intersex and embarked on a path riddled with prejudice and loneliness. Now 28, everything changes one day when she crosses paths with Julia, a mysterious middle-aged single mother whose life has been scarred by abuse and pain. What begins as an unexpected attraction deepens into a bond that propels them down unforeseen roads.
ReView Written by Jonathan Zarantonello
In a video message, a social media acolyte invites other women to have sex with her boyfriend, but only if they film their review after. A game of power dynamics intertwines the lives of several amused participants, then the videos leak and those lives are forever changed, destroyed, or ended.
Surf City Written by Robert A. Breedlove
The true story of an obsessive military logistics specialist who sees the future in a Seattle laundromat in 1996 and returns to Anchorage to build one of America’s first Internet cafes. What begins as a $15,500 gamble becomes a warm, chaotic refuge beneath a hand-painted surfboard sign, where soldiers, gamers, lawyers, artists, tourists and misfits find fast bandwidth, strong coffee and, unexpectedly, one another. Though the cafe is now gone, the network isn’t and the clan endures.
