Dear Friends,
It is with tremendous joy and gratitude that I welcome you to our production of Irving Berlin’s White Christmas. I am deeply grateful to Ogunquit Playhouse and The Music Hall for entrusting me with the privilege of bringing this classic story to you. To you, our audience, I thank you for your continued belief in the importance and magic of live theatre and for sharing it with your family and friends this Holiday Season.
It is deeply special and unique to have this magic be a part of my career for the past 20 years. I’ve had the extraordinary honor of being part of White Christmas in various capacities— from the exhilarating first moment I stepped on stage as a performer in the Los Angeles production and on Broadway, to countless productions across the country, and into Canada. Each production has deepened my love for this story and revealed new layers of its wonder. Working both on stage and off with the original creative team who so brilliantly crafted this spectacular show has been one of the great gifts of my career. Learning from them, and from the remarkable companies who have brought this musical to life night after night, has shaped me as an artist and storyteller. It is an absolute honor to now guide a new generation of performers through this beloved story.
White Christmas has endured for decades because it offers us something we desperately need: a reminder of the transformative power of generosity and community. At its core, this story teaches us that true fulfillment comes not from what we achieve for ourselves, but from what we do for others. When Bob Wallace and Phil Davis rally to save the Vermont inn and honor the General, they demonstrate that loyalty, friendship, and selflessness create bonds that outlast any individual success.
The show also celebrates the healing power of coming together. Whether through song, dance, or simply showing up for one another, the characters remind us that we are stronger as a community than we could ever be alone. The Inn becomes a gathering place where people rediscover hope, make new connections, and remember what truly matters. As you watch tonight, I hope you’ll reflect on your own communities and the ways you might bring light into someone else’s life.

IRVING BERLIN (Music and Lyrics) With a life that spanned more than 100 years and a catalogue that boasts over 1,000 songs, Irving Berlin (1888-1989) epitomized Jerome Kern’s famous maxim that “Irving Berlin has no place in American music – he is American music.” Berlin wrote scores to 13 Broadway musicals, contributed to seven revues, wrote songs for 12 classic Hollywood movie musicals and
created many of the most well-known popular songs of the 20th century. Born in Russia, he immigrated to the Lower East Side, where he started as a singing waiter and soon became a lyricist, composer and music publisher. An intuitive businessman, Irving Berlin was a co-founder of ASCAP, founder of his own music publishing company and builder of the Music Box Theatre to house his Music Box Revues. For his paean to his beloved country, “God Bless America,” he established a fund which receives all revenue for the song and distributes it to the Boy and Girl Scouts.
DAVID IVES (Co-Bookwriter) has been active in the American theatre for 50 years. His shows include All In The Timing, Time Flies, Venus In Fur, New Jerusalem: The Interrogation of Baruch de Spinoza, and four verse adaptations of French comedies, as well as radio plays that are available online at PlayingOnAir.org. He collaborated with Stephen Sondheim on Sondheim’s last musical, Here We Are, which premiered off-Broadway at The Shed in September 2023.
PAUL BLAKE (Co-Bookwriter) produced the Broadway, London, and touring productions of Beautiful The Carole King Musical. After 22 seasons as the Executive Producer of The Muny in St Louis, where he produced/ directed more than 150 shows, Paul is currently enjoying his Emeritus status. His Tony-nominated Irving Berlin’s White Christmas (co-writer, co-producer) played two highly successful seasons on Broadway and has become a holiday favorite in theatres across the country. Paul’s revival of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Sunset Boulevard, which starred Glenn Close, played a sold-out season at New York’s Palace Theatre.

Aside from his career as a performer, he has been fortunate enough to assist Mary Giattino on both White Christmas and 42nd Street at the Gateway Playhouse. Additionally, he has assisted Randy Skinner on many projects, including the premiere of Perfect Picture starring Tony winner Lillias White, off-Broadway with Gotta Dance! and Cheek to Cheek: Irving Berlin in Hollywood at The York Theatre and for many years with the national tour of Irving Berlin’s White Christmas. MATTHEW ZWIEBEL (Associate Music Director) Ogunquit Playhouse debut! Matthew is a Brooklyn-based, Wilkes-Barre/Scrantonraised music director, composer, copyist, and pianist. He has been working on Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS Red Bucket Follies and Broadway Backwards and is a composer with the BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theater Writing Workshop. Matthew, in various capacities as a resident artist and associate music director, has previously worked with: Berkeley Repertory Theatre, Transcendence Theatre Company, Baryshnikov Arts Center, Pocantico Arts Center, and Scranton Shakespeare Festival. He is an alumnus of Carnegie Mellon's music composition program and the Broadway Musicians Equity Partnership. As a side-quest, Matthew has been working as a background actor for film and TV! MATT EARLEY (Production Manager) comes to Maine from Minneapolis, MN, where he was born and raised. He studied theatre at St. Cloud State University, where he originally wanted to be a performer. However, shortly into his college career he learned about technical theatre and never looked back. Matt has worked in the theatre industry for the past 20 years, wearing many hats. He was the Production Manager at Jungle Theater for six years and before that, was the PM at Mixed Blood Theatre Company, both in Minneapolis. As a Production Manager, Matt has had the opportunity to work with many talented performers, designers, and technicians and is excited to be in his second season at Ogunquit Playhouse. He would like to thank his partner, Kat, and their cat, Cami, for their unwavering love and support.
GEOF DOLAN (Technical Director) is leading the Scene Shop for his 18th season as the Ogunquit Playhouse’s Technical Director and Scenic Coordinator. Immediately prior to Ogunquit, he served as Technical Director for Worcester Foothills Theatre. He has done supplemental design work for several shows. He is also the Technical Supervisor for the Playhouse’s Arts Academy program. Geof began his technical career working backstage for both of his parents who are theatre directors and began his professional career at Sierra Repertory Theatre in California. For

five years, he split his seasons between Maine and Florida, working the same technical areas for Orlando Shakespeare Festival, but now stays with the Playhouse year–round. His wife Cheryl (Resident Scenic Charge at the Playhouse for 17 seasons) has designed award–winning parade floats and designed many of the Arts Academy productions.
CHERYL DOLAN (Resident Scenic Change) is lending her brush to the sets for her 17th season at the Ogunquit Playhouse. After taking over as Resident Scenic Charge 14 years ago, she has designed several sets for our Arts Academy program, as well as adding her artistic eye to many of the mainstage productions. Since falling in love with Ogunquit Playhouse, Cheryl, her husband Geof Dolan (OP Technical Director), and Cairo the Shop Dog have made the Seacoast their home year–round. Cheryl considers the staff at OP her family and hopes her love and passion for theater is translated through these productions to all of you.
BRIAN J. SWASEY (Producing Director) Now in his 10th season, Brian is originally from South Portland, ME and a graduate of the University of New Hampshire. After moving to NYC in 1995 and focusing on pursuing a career as an actor, he changed focus and became the Founding Artistic Director of The Astoria Performing Arts Center, followed by the Associate Producer position at Queens Theatre in the Park in Flushing, NY. There he was involved in producing the 20th Anniversary Revival of Closer Than Ever starring Sally Mayes and Lynne Winterstellar. Prior to Ogunquit, Brian was the Managing Director for The New York Theatre Barn. NYC Developmental Projects: The Rock Musical, The 12, and the holiday musical Tim and Scrooge. As a Director and Choreographer, Brian had the pleasure of working on Pump Boys and Dinettes, Hairspray, Chicago, A New Brain, and Altar Boyz. He was the Assistant Director for the NYC Revival of Die, Mommie, Die! starring Charles Busch. At the Playhouse, Brian directed the TYA productions of The Berenstain Bears and The Cat In The Hat. Brian has also booked cabaret entertainment at
The Triad in NYC, and brought artists such as Christina Bianco and Bruce Vilanch to MaineStreet Ogunquit.
BRADFORD T. KENNEY (Executive Artistic Director) is also a producer, director for stage and film, and an artist. He is particularly passionate about the preservation of our nation’s historic theaters, ensuring their relevance for tomorrow’s audiences, and grateful to steward Ogunquit Playhouse as it approaches its 100th anniversary. Since arriving in 2005, The Playhouse has tripled its audience, growing from an acclaimed Summer Stock theater into one of America’s preeminent year-round regional theaters, with productions staged in multiple states. During Brad’s stewardship, The Playhouse has garnered numerous awards and honors including the Moss Hart Trophy for Outstanding Achievement in the American Theatre, and multiple IRNE and Broadway World awards. Beyond having great pride in overseeing more than 94 Playhouse productions, Brad is closely involved in the development of America’s theatrical canon through the Ogunquit Playhouse New Works Program, guiding the curation and development of new theatrical experiences, including The Da Vinci Code, Frida The Musical, Mommie Dearest The Musical, Heartbreak Hotel, Mystic Pizza, Christmas in Connecticut, Mr. Holland’s Opus, and The Nutty Professor. Brad was formerly the Artistic Director of the Foothills Theatre and Wachusett Theatre Companies in Massachusetts. He is also a fourth–generation plein air landscape artist, having studied with Beth Ellis and at Rhode Island School of Design, Heartwood College of Art, and Maine College of Art.
DEBORAH WARREN (Managing Director) a theatre veteran with over 25 years experience in the performing arts, is in her third season at The Playhouse. She spent seven years at Center Theatre Group in Los Angeles where she oversaw marketing, publicity, advertising, and earned revenue for the Ahmanson and Mark Taper Forum. During her time at CTG, she directed campaigns for over 80 productions. Highlights during her tenure include launching the pre-Broadway shows

Amélie and Ain’t Too Proud, as well as the record-breaking LA engagement of Dear Evan Hansen. Deborah has held senior-level positions at Disney Theatrical Productions, where she managed productions of The Lion King and the national tour of Aida. She also served as a consultant for global productions of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Deborah’s other regional work includes leading the marketing for the two-year run of Wicked in Los Angeles and North American productions of Jersey Boys. Her career in the theatre began as a Broadway publicist at Manhattan Theatre Club in New York. She has held leadership roles at Hartford Stage, New Dramatists, and Berkshire Theatre Festival. In LA, she was instrumental in launching two nationally recognized live entertainment venues: Geffen Playhouse and Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts. Deborah holds a degree from Syracuse University and is originally from East Haddam, CT.
JOE GLEASON (Acting President & CEO of The Music Hall) Joe moved to New Hampshire in 1974 and he graduated from White Mountains Regional High School in 1978. He attended Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Theatre. Returning to New Hampshire after college, Joe went on to work at the Palace Theatre, Dana Center, UMass Lowell, Lowell Memorial Auditorium, and the Capitol Center for the Arts. Following several years as the IT Manager for a company in New Hampshire, Joe returned to work in theater as the Executive Director of the Clayton Opera House in New York. Moving back to New Hampshire, Joe was the Assistant Director at Lebanon Opera House, and in 2016-2021 as Assistant Executive Director at the Capitol Center for the Arts. He completed his master’s in arts administration from Goucher College in 2013. Joe has served on the Saint Lawrence Arts Council Grant Review Panel in New York, as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Capitol Center for the Arts in Concord, past Chair of the Arts Presenters of Northern New England, and past Vice Chair of Arts for New Hampshire.
