SHARE THE MAGIC WITH YOUR NEIGHBORS IN NEED CHRIS CURTIS, Film & Outreach Manager

The holiday season is the season of gift giving, and what better way to honor that then to give to those in need. This year’s Ogunquit Playhouse production of Elf The Musical is pure magic with great costumes and tons of hilarity, all wrapped up in our festively decorated Historic Theater. But we need your help! Inspired by Morgan and Tara Rutman, Give the Gift of Magic has gifted 270 tickets to local families, but we hope to continue to grow this holiday season and beyond.

From now through the first week of December, every time you purchase a ticket to any show at The Music Hall, you can give an additional, tax-deductible donation that will help us provide Elf tickets to those families in need. We are excited to welcome two new community partners, Big Brothers Big Sisters of New Hampshire and Arts in Reach, who join Greater Seacoast Community Health (formerly Families First Health and Support Center and Goodwin Community Health of Somersworth) and Cross Roads House in Portsmouth in receiving these tickets. Donations are also accepted online, at the B2W box office, or over the phone.

"We are so fortunate to once again be a beneficiary of The Music Hall's Give the Gift of Magic Campaign,” said Janet Laatsch, Chief Executive Officer of Greater Seacoast Community Health. “This unique opportunity provides an experience many of our families can only dream of. People often forget that some of our Seacoast friends and neighbors struggle this time of year, but these tickets allow parents and their children to create long-lasting memories that are truly priceless.”

It’s rewarding for all of us here at The Music Hall to know that more local families will enjoy the holiday magic of Elf The Musical this season, thanks to our wonderful patrons, members, donors, and sponsors.

The Green Initiative Gains More Welcome Changes

It may seem like there’s always something new at The Music Hall, whether that be up-andcoming artists, community outreach programs, or even Chestnut Street out front. One change we hope you notice is the progress made with our green initiatives. One of the most noticeable developments is our switch from single-use, plastic straws to strawless, reusable souvenir cups. (We do still offer compostable straws “on demand” for those that either require or prefer to use one.) This fantastic first step toward sustainability got us off on the right foot with the rest of our green initiatives.

Until recently, our green practices incorporated state-of-the-art and energy-efficient lights and windows in our buildings, recycling receptacles for plastic bottles and other materials, and environmental awareness programming. But now, we’ve expanded further into the organization with Concessions going green and adding composting with Mr. Fox Composting. Currently, all but one item passed over the Concessions counter has a proper place in the green initiative— candy wrappers remain the only piece of trash. This move ensures we are doing our part for the environment and the community around us. Our patrons join us in this endeavor with little change to their usual practices by simply helping us sort into the right bin. We cut a lot of the environment-harming decisions to make this easy for everyone.

In addition to adding composting, we’ve switched to a soda gun system in the Historic Theater, which means we are cutting down significantly on plastic. We incorporated Bluedrop Water’s beautiful fountain system, eliminating the use of 22,000 single-use plastic bottles a year! And the water tastes incredibly refreshing! We also swapped all of our bottled beer to aluminum cans, which are significantly easier on the environment than glass. Our partnership with Sustainable Seacoast, who helped orchestrate all of these changes, has been incredibly effective and smooth. We are lucky to have the organization guiding us through these transitions.

Keep an eye out for more to come, such as cutting back on more environment-harming products, eliminating our trash output, and utilizing more sustainable practices throughout The Music Hall. So, next time you see a show, grab a cup of still or sparkling water in a compostable cup and know that you are doing your part for the world.

Tips & Tricks

In less than a month, Buddy the Elf leaves the North Pole for our Historic Theater. Expect lots of laughs, incredible sets, actors straight from Broadway, and the same fun from the beloved movie! Prepare for a magical night at the theater, with these tips and tricks:

• Get your tickets now! Tickets are going fast, but there are still good seats available for most shows. If you’re looking for an evening or weekend show, some of the best views are in the balcony.

• Make a restaurant reservation ahead of time. We elves stick to the four main food groups—candy, candy canes, candy corns, and syrup—but you might want real food, too.

• Gather family, friends, and coworkers, and make this event your new holiday tradition. Do you have a big group? Get a great discount by calling 603.766.2203!

• Help us give back this holiday season by donating to our Give the Gift of Magic campaign. In partnership with Greater Seacoast Community Health, we give tickets to families in need so they can enjoy the show too.

• Share the fun! When you come to the theater, snap a picture, check in at The Music Hall, and use #MyMusicHall!

And lastly, bring some Buddy you love! See you this holiday season at Elf The Musical!

From visionary filmmaker Spike Lee comes the incredible true story of an American hero. It's the early 1970s, and Ron Stallworth (John David Washington) is the first African-American detective to serve in the Colorado Springs Police Department. Determined to make a name for himself, Stallworth bravely sets out on a dangerous mission: infiltrate and expose the Ku Klux Klan. The young detective soon recruits a more seasoned colleague, Flip Zimmerman (Adam Driver), into the undercover investigation of a lifetime.

11/2, 11/7, 11/8 • 7pm

Inspired by the life of Blaze Foley, the unsung songwriting legend of the Texas outlaw music movement that spawned the likes of Merle Haggard and Willie Nelson. The film weaves together three different periods of time, braiding re-imagined versions of Blaze's past, present, and future. The different strands explore his love affair with Sybil Rosen; his last, dark night on earth; and the impact his songs and his death had on his fans, friends, and foes. From Writer-Director Ethan Hawke.

THE WIFE

R • 1h 40m • UK

11/13, 11/16 • 7pm

After nearly forty years of marriage, Joan and Joe Castleman (Glenn Close and Jonathan Pryce) are complements. Where Joe is casual, Joan is elegant. Where Joe is vain, Joan is self-effacing. The film interweaves the story of the couple's youthful passion and ambition with a portrait of a marriage, thirty-plus years later—a lifetime's shared compromises, secrets, betrayals, and mutual love.

In Past Tense, Jack Reacher chases his past in the New Hampshire woods, Laconia, and Manchester. Later in the month on the 14th, we’ll land in St. John with the always-fun, ever-glamorous Elin Hilderbrand and Winter in Paradise, her first novel—a mystery!—set on the U.S. Virgin Island. Finally, on Tuesday, December 4, we’ll gather with bestselling author Ann Hood and her husband, food writer Michael Ruhlman (The Soul of a Chef and The French Laundry Cookbook), to discuss her essays and recipes nourishing bodies and souls.

New Friends Are Our Favorite: Welcome, Lake Street Advisors

Chestnut Street is absolutely bustling these days, and all that action has inspired us to forge deeper relationships with our neighbors, including Lake Street Advisors. As an independently registered investment advisor, the team at Lake Street provides expert wealth management and dedicated, highly personalized service. Formed with a focus on holistic family services, they’ve advised generations, from tax and estate planning to insurance strategy and budget forecasting. We appreciate their commitment to family and longevity, and are pleased to welcome them to our sponsor circle.

We are also thrilled to be hosting a group from Lake Street Advisors during Elf The Musical. We love group sales; in fact, we encourage them with special pricing (call Drew at the B2W Box Office for details). Buddy Webb, Managing Partner, shared what prompted the group sale. He reported, “It started when The Music Hall first announced Elf was going to be the holiday musical. Since the movie is my wife’s favorite, we knew we would have to attend. I discussed with my leadership team at Lake Street and we thought inviting the entire company and their families would be a lot of fun. Well, the response was great and we are bringing our group of 75 to the show!”
