eptember has arrived, and summer is officially in the rearview mirror! School is back in full swing, fall sports are underway, and there is so much to look forward to as we welcome cooler temperatures, beautiful colors, and a new season. This is one of my favorite times of year to get out and enjoy our community. Whether it’s attending a football game, watching the band, cheering on volleyball, soccer, or golf, or taking in one of the many other fall sports and school events happening locally, I encourage you to pick a few and head out to support our students. It’s a wonderful way to show our kids that their community is behind them—and it’s a lot of fun, too! At Nolensville Town Life, our goal is to highlight the people, businesses, schools, organizations, and stories that make our community so special. Coach Carrie, how are you feeling heading into this new dance season with the Nolensville team? I'm excited and optimistic. We have a talented group of dancers and a lot of potential this season. What are some of the key goals you have set for the team this year? Our goals are to have engaging performances, build strong team unity, and represent Nolensville with pride. started my career working D1 cheer and dance in Texas at SFA in 2016. While there I picked up some Friday night lights on the side for extra cash and realized I loved it. When we moved back to Nashville in 2021 I knew I had to get to a high school. In the spring of 2022 I joined the Bone and Joint team and started at Summit High School. That fall I transitioned to Nolensville and have been here ever since! The typical day depends on the season. This fall we’re having a lot of heat over 100 so some days I’m out of the door at 4:00 am to get to school for football practice then back to the school around 2:15 pm

for afternoon stuff. In the fall it’s a lot of making sure everyone is watching the heat and getting volleyball, soccer, football, and cross country taken care of. Getting waters ready for practices and games, everyone taped, injuries evaluated, and just getting filled in on the school day. Then the winter is a little more laid back with basketballs and wrestling, but never boring! The spring is where it’s crazy. With essentially every team on campus active except for about 2 it is crazy. Lots of water coolers, lots of tape, but it’s always full of celebration (well it is in every season) so it’s all worth it. I think as athletics changes as a whole then everything will continue to evolve. We have added lacrosse and flag football since I got here. The treatment styles change and research continues to come out and show new things in medicine and athletics. There is always something new in some form or fashion so it keeps me on my toes and I love it!

I think every championship or every championship run holds a special place in my heart and we have a lot of those at Nolensville. Volleyball being down 2-0 and winning 3-2 in districts in 2024, wrestling sending over 75% of the team to individual state in 2026, and baseball winning the district tournament in 2026 are some of the examples. Also the injuries that come back and those athletes have so much success. The athletes that fight through the adversity and come out on top will always make me feel like a proud older sister type of feeling. Dr. Mehta has been awesome! He truly has the best interest of the athletes and trusts me with the same. His assistant, Keely, is also an athletic trainer so it’s awesome to have another AT brain to pick on injuries. His first sideline with us was week 2 and he was blown away with the atmosphere and the respect of the athletes. Plus we have the urgent care clinic right here in town and having that crew (Roger, Lance, Brandon, Scott,

I think the best qualities are conflicting qualities! You have to be kind and compassionate, but also have some tough love in there. Being honest with the athletes and the parents, even when the answer isn’t the one we all want, will always go a long way. Admitting when I get it wrong and being understanding is another big one. Patience! Especially when the weather gets crazy in the spring. Some days you have to have a really good poker face when they talk about their day or how they got hurt over the weekend, but eventually you can laugh about it or cry about it with them! I just try to be honest with them. I tell them random life stories, tell them about random old injuries I’ve seen, and anything happening around us. I try to build trust with the athletes so that way they aren’t scared to come in and see me. I try to make them know that even though I’m old, I’ve also walked through life as an athlete and know that they just want to play. And I am going to do whatever I can to make sure they can play, but also play to the best of their ability and keeping their safety in mind. These game days are temporary, but the well being of their mind and body is forever. As time goes on I hope we continue to see new things. New treatment options, continued access to supplies for hydration, taping, safety, etc, and continuing to teach anyone that wants to learn about this specific branch of sports medicine! Thankfully our school is ever evolving in every area and I am very grateful! NolensvilleTownLife.com

An Interview with NHS 2026 Golf Team Head Coach

How would you describe this year’s boys and girls golf teams? What stands out to you about this group? I am really looking forward to watching our golfers compete this year. On the boys side, Seniors Jon Klint and Cooper VanDyke are poised to compete for a spot in the Region Tournament. On the girls side, our team as a whole is hoping to qualify for a spot in the Region. Who are some of the returning players who will play important roles this season? The boys will lean heavily on our Senior group of Jon Klint, Cooper VanDyke, and Hudson Ranck. I am also hoping to see Juniors Jackson Combs and Cooper Sparkman contribute to our team success this year. The girls return two that made the Region Tournament last year in Senior Rika Arnett and Sophomore Audrey King. They will be instrumental in our success along with contributions from Senior Janie Lee and Juniors Lucy Gilbo and Aubrie Lusso.

Are there any younger or newer golfers who have really impressed you so far? Freshman Rhett Sundstrom has been impressive in our early season practices as well as Freshman Janessa Franko on the girls side. Both of these two could end up contributing this year. What are the biggest goals for the boys team and the girls team this season? Our goal each year is always to make the Region Tournament as a team, which means finishing in the top 3 in the toughest District in TN. Individually, each of our athletes hope to qualify for the Region as well and have a shot for the State Tournament. What areas have you seen the most improvement in from your players since last season? I feel that our mental toughness has improved since last year in terms of understanding how

to navigate the course and how to control our emotions a little better. What do you enjoy most about coaching this group of young men and women? As a teacher and coach, I enjoy getting to be around young people and playing a small part in their growth as humans. This group in particular has several golfers that have played since their freshman year that will be very hard to see go next season. Golf requires a lot of individual focus, but the players are also part of a team. How do your golfers support and encourage each other? Golf is a unique sport in that you are competing as an individual but also as a team. Our golfers do a good job of supporting each other during matches. We have a few team activities as well in which we try to build camaraderie. As you look ahead to the rest of the season, what are you most excited about for Nolensville High School golf?

have been cutting hair since I can remember, but I began my professional career as a master barber when I was 19, in a small brownstone barbershop in Jersey City, NJ. All of the barbers were at least 40 years my senior. I learned a lot, not just about the art, but also the role that a barbershop plays in the community. The most important thing I learned is that a barber is not just someone that cuts hair, but also a true friend.

It has been a true adventure, with the highs and lows that come with opening a new business. But now that we finally have our doors open, we invite you to come and step back in time to a true, original American barbershop. Here, you can bring your child to get their first haircut, like your father did when you were young. You can also get a clean shave, a beard trim, a high-and-tight, or any other style, as we specialize in all hair textures and the use of the classic straight-edge razor.

As life would have it, I moved down to Tennessee a little over 20 years ago, carrying the legacy that I inherited from the barbers that taught me. So, you can imagine my excitement when I was given the opportunity to open a barbershop in a brownstone building in Nolensville. It couldn’t be more perfect; I love the sense of community here. The building brings me many memories of that first barbershop I worked in. I set my heart on restoring it, not only for myself, but for the pride and enjoyment of all the residents of Nolensville.

Nolensville High School Cheer Squad Builds More Than Skills

or the Nolensville High School cheer squad, this season is about more than perfecting stunts and routines. It’s about building a confident, disciplined and supportive team that represents Nolensville High School with pride. The squad has grown tremendously in both skill and maturity since last year. Athletes have been challenged to step outside their comfort zones, take ownership of their roles and learn to trust one another. “The biggest growth I have seen is in their willingness to work through challenges together,” coach Cinard said. Practices are intentional and include conditioning, flexibility, jumps, tumbling, stunting, cheers and game-day execution. The team has placed an increased emphasis on stunt technique, communication and timing, while teaching athletes why proper technique is important for both safety and performance.

Bringing athletes with different personalities, experience levels and strengths together has been one of the team's biggest challenges. Learning difficult skills also means accepting mistakes, making adjustments and trying again. Those setbacks, however, have helped the team become stronger and more resilient. Keeping athletes motivated during long practices and competitions comes down to remembering the bigger picture. Small victories are celebrated, leadership and perseverance are recognized, and practices include plenty of opportunities for fun. Creating a culture where every athlete feels valued also helps the team push through difficult moments. For the coach, some of the proudest moments haven't necessarily been the biggest stunts or loudest performances. They come from watching athletes encourage one another, step up as leaders and refuse to give

up when something doesn't go as planned. The squad also plays an important role in creating the energy and atmosphere of game day. Cheerleaders rally the student section, support the football team, engage with the crowd and help create an experience that reflects Nolensville pride. The message to students interested in joining the squad in the future is simple: come ready to work and willing to learn. Attitude, work ethic, coachability and being a good teammate are just as important as athletic ability. There will be challenging days, but those are often the moments when athletes grow the most. For the Nolensville High School cheer squad, that growth — together — is one of the most important accomplishments of the season.

And The School Spirit On Friday nights, the excitement of high school football stretches far beyond the action between the sidelines. For Caleb, Nolan and Tradd, serving as flag runners gives them a special opportunity to represent their school, energize the crowd and help celebrate every big scoring moment. by Tim Beard | photos courtesy of Tim Beard

CALEB became interested in the role after

watching friends serve as flag runners in previous seasons. When he learned volunteers were needed this year, he quickly stepped forward.

“There’s a rush of excitement every time we score, but there is also the responsibility of being there and ready to run the flags,” Caleb said. For Caleb, the real joy comes from helping make every touchdown, field goal and even safety feel special. His favorite moment so far was the game-winning field goal against Summit. As the crowd erupted, the flag runners helped lead the celebration.

NOLAN’s opportunity came unexpectedly.

He was preparing to enjoy a game when Tradd approached him looking for two volunteers. Nolan agreed, thinking it would be a fun way to become more involved. Afterward, he called it one of the best decisions he had made and one of his most enjoyable football-game experiences.

At first, Nolan had two important thoughts as he prepared to run: Don’t run into the cheerleaders, and don’t fall. Once those concerns passed, he began hearing the roar of the crowd and appreciating the opportunity to be part of the action. Nolan had watched the school’s flag runners for four years without realizing how

important their role was. After participating himself, he understood how much they add to the atmosphere and memories created on Friday nights.

TRADD also became interested after speaking with a previous flag runner. The chance to have an outstanding view of the field while showing support for the school sounded too good to pass up. “I have always thought it was cool to be on the field and run as fast as you can with a flag,” Tradd said. “Now I get the chance to be that person.” Like Caleb, Tradd’s favorite memory was the winning field goal. By the time the flag runners returned, students were storming the field, and the celebration continued around them. For all three students, carrying the flags is about more than running down the sideline. It is a reminder that every role matters. By stepping forward, they have found their own memorable way to support their team, represent their school and help turn each scoring play into a celebration.

An Interview with NHS 2026 Media Team

do! This includes doing live shots to the video board during the game! How do you train students to use the cameras, production equipment, and scoreboard technology?

Coach Bass, can you introduce the students and staff who make up the Friday night scoreboard media team? Our Gameday Experiece Team consists of: Indy Abercrombie, Joel Moyer, Jackson Gainey, Nate Perry, Marcella Loza, and Murphy Johnson

How far in advance does the team begin preparing the videos, graphics, advertisements, music, and other content for each home game? We began preparing this summer. We held a media day this summer in which all the fall athletes came through on a rotation schedule for hm “hype” style videos. Each my week my team is also editing video and audio content to create new material for the week. They work hard everyday at it! What different jobs are involved in operating the scoreboard and Jumbotron during a game? We have some students filming the action, some doing interviews on the sidelines, and some in the student section to gather

the student section experience. We will add more roles as we learn all the bells and whistles of what our new board can

We are trained on the one of the industry leaders in creative content production: Adobe. My students learn the many levels of this powerful software which includes Photoshop, Premiere Pro, and After Effects. What is great for my film students is that these Adobe skills transfer to the next levels of either film school or professional based work so they are prepared to hit the ground running when they leave NHS. How do team members decide which players, students, fans, and special guests will be featured on the Jumbotron? We would like to keep the feature spotlight moving! Our goal is to give everyone some shine not only in the school but in the town of Nolensville. There is so much cool stuff going in our neck of the woods and we hope this new board is a way to bring light to all of it! What is the process for creating sponsor advertisements and making sure they appear at the correct times during the game? First our students will meet with the local business owners and have a discussion with them about what their goal is for their advertisement. For some businesses, that

has been showing off their business or

product. For others, they have wanted a

spot that is more focused on their connection to the town and what the town means to them. From there my students will

create a storyboard to help capture the

clients goal and branding hopes. We then set up a shoot time and knock it out! It s is

such a great professional level opportunity for our juniors and seniors to go out and

make professional level commercial work for their portfolio.

What are some of the biggest challenges the media team faces during a live Friday night football game?

Whenever you are trying to pull things off during a live production like a ballgame,

there is inventively the dreaded technology issues. I try to keep the students (and

myself) calm when we run into snags and use it as a problem solving opportunity.

What skills and experiences do students gain by participating on the scoreboard media team, and how could those skills help them in the future?

The kids learn how to create professional level promotional work. This could be

hype videos to get the whole town locked in and fired up for a third down, or a 30 second ad for a local sandwich shop.

pushing themselves to create work that people see and

say “wow, a high school student made that?”
