On Friday nights in Nolensville, the stadium is alive with the sounds of football—the band playing, the student section cheering, and the steady, familiar voice from the press box guiding fans through all of the action. That voice belongs to Luke Patton, Nolensville High School’s PA announcer, whose presence has become an essential part of the game-day experience.
A lifelong sports fan, Luke’s journey to the microphone began years ago at Belleville East High School in Illinois, where he worked as a radio play-by-play announcer. When his family moved to Nolensville in 2018, he volunteered in the press box as a spotter, helping announcers identify plays and players. A few seasons later, he stepped into the announcer’s chair, where he’s been ever since.
Preparation for each game begins with updated rosters and the official game script, provided by Athletic Director Zach Hudson and the school’s administration. With everything in place, Luke focuses on what he does best—keeping fans informed while adding energy to the stadium. “My primary role is to keep the crowd up to date,” he explains. “But I’ll admit, I love shouting out a Nolensville touchdown.”
VOICE of the Knights
The Friday night atmosphere, he says, is what makes Nolensville football so special. “Football here is a community event. The whole town comes out to support the team, and with the band and student section creating an amazing environment, it’s electric.”
correct him.
He credits much of the smooth operation in the booth to his long-time crew: Chris Ladd, who runs the sound board and music, and Brad Shanks, who operates the scoreboard. “We’ve had the same crew for four seasons now,” he says. “We feed off each other and have a great time.”
Some memories stand out more than others. One of the most unforgettable nights was Nolensville’s overtime win over Page, a 27-21 thriller that left the stadium buzzing. There are funny moments, too—like the time he mispronounced a sponsor’s name, only to have the sponsor himself turn around from the crowd to
For Luke, being the announcer is more than just calling plays—it’s about adding to the game-day tradition. Fans rely on him to know what’s happening, and families cherish hearing their player’s name announced after a big moment.
Off the field, Luke teaches and coaches at Nolensville High, serving as head softball coach, assistant girls’ basketball coach, and FCA huddle coach. He and his wife Jessica, married for 28 years, have four children: Kendall, Avery, Maddy, and Caleb.
As he reflects on his role, Luke offers advice for future announcers: “Listen to different styles, find your own voice, and take every opportunity you can. The announcer has become a true part of the game-day experience—and it’s a great seat on Friday nights.”

10HOT Places in Tennessee
by Craig Hewitt
As the autumn chill creeps across the landscape, Tennessee unveils the harrowing tales woven throughout its auspicious past. From eerie whispers echoing through timeworn halls to ghostly apparitions wandering beneath moonlit skies, the Volunteer State is rich with gloomy settings. Here are 10 of Tennessee's most haunted locations, where every corner holds a story of dread.
Haunted havens
Bell Witch Cave, Adams
Shrouded in legend, the infamous Bell Witch Cave is the site of paranormal activity attributed to the vengeful spirit of Kate Batts. This eerie cave was near the home of the Bell family, who suffered torment at the hands of a supernatural entity in the early 1800s. Visitors report cold drafts, whispers, and strange figures lurking in the shadows, evoking the chilling essence of unresolved vengeance and fear.
Shiloh National Military Park, Shiloh
Shiloh National Military Park, a hallowed ground of Civil War bloodshed, reverberates with the energy of fallen soldiers. Here, the spirits of those who perished in the brutal 1862 battle are believed to roam, their sorrow palpable in the air. Ghostly silhouettes have been spotted wandering the landscape, while phantom sounds of cannon fire and battle cries swell up from the haunted earth, creating an atmosphere heavy with grief.
The Lotz House, Franklin
Constructed during the turbulent Civil War era, the Lotz House holds a tragic story. The historic site of violent battles and deep personal loss, the home is rumored to be haunted by the spirits of its former residents. Visitors report seeing nebulous apparitions and experiencing bone-chilling drafts, with the tragic events of its past manifesting as sorrowful whispers amidst the antique decor.
Union Station Hotel, Nashville
Once a bustling train hub, Union Station Hotel is now a luxurious getaway yet is still shrouded in supernatural lore. Reports of ghostly figures wandering its grand halls have plagued the hotel for decades.
The heavy oak beams and atmospheric lighting create a sense of lingering dread, as apparitions reportedly attempt to relive moments from their unfinished journeys.
Brushy Mountain Penitentiary, Petros
This once-infamous prison is steeped in tales of torment and death. Its darkened corridors and shadowy cells purportedly house the anguished souls of former inmates. Visitors often hear chilling cries as if reliving the harrowing stories that linger within its grim walls.
Historic Scott County Jail, Huntsville
Built in the late 1800s, the Historic Scott County Jail harbors tales of despair and madness. Local lore suggests that the spirits of prisoners, wronged in life and met with gruesome fates, wander its halls. Ghostly encounters include the sound of maniacal laughter and unsettling movements in the shadows, weaving a chilling narrative of the jail’s dark past.
Orpheum Theatre, Memphis
With its opulent design and rich cultural history, the Orpheum Theatre is said to contain the restless spirit of a young woman named Mary. Ghostly figures are reported to flit about backstage, with soft whispers often heard by visiting performers. The echoes of haunting melodies seem to invoke those who once thrived under its spotlight, resulting in an atmosphere thick with artistry and unease.
Loretta Lynn's Ranch, Hurricane Mills
Loretta Lynn’s Ranch carries the essence of country music's past and haunting lore. Guests often report fascinating encounters with ghostly figures believed to be former tenants of the property. With tales of sorrowful songs and lingering tunes drifting through the air, the ranch embodies the melancholy of lives intertwined with music and legend, casting a pall over its visitors.
The Hermitage, Nashville
The former home of President Andrew Jackson, The Hermitage exudes an air of haunted history. Visitors often recount sightings of spectral figures, believed to be the spirits of past inhabitants who linger in this grand estate. Ghostly whispers, said to be from Jackson and his family, resonate within the ivy-clad walls, imbuing the grounds with an unsettling intrigue and ghostly reverence.
Tennessee State Prison, Nashville
This foreboding institution is renowned for its brutal history, which once confined the most dangerous criminals of the state. With its gothic architecture and desolate atmosphere, the Tennessee State Prison is rife with ghostly encounters, where prisoners' anguished cries echo in the darkness. This former penitentiary is a chilling reminder of the past, as visitors report seeing shadowy figures in the cells and experiencing overwhelming feelings of despair.

Melanie Staudt Renaissance Scholarship
by
One Sunday more than twenty-five years ago, Melanie Staudt was asked a simple question: Could she fill in on piano at Jenkins Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Nolensville? She agreed, thinking it was just for one Sunday. Then came the next Sunday. And the next.
That one small “yes” stretched acrossa quarter of a century, until her musicbecame the warm and constant heartbeat of worship at Jenkins Church. This year, after Melanie’s retirement on January 1, the congregation found a special way to honor her faithfulness.
In March, Jenkins Church partnered with Bethel University in McKenzie, Tennessee, to establish the Melanie Staudt Renaissance Scholarship. The $1,000 annual award will support one Renaissance program piano student each year for at least the next decade. It supports study, practice, and performance, and encourages ministry that brings music to the local church, the heart of the faith community. The first recipient is Jacob Rasinar of Lebanon, Tennessee, who now carries forward Melanie’s legacy of music to inspire worship.
For Pastor Rev. Jason Mikel, some of his
most cherished moments with Melanie were during Christmas Eve drop-in communions. For one quiet hour, it was just a pastor and a pianist, creating a space of reflection where church members could experience God’s grace. “Melanie never asked for a spotlight,” Rev. Mikel shared.
“She just wanted to show up with cheer, know the hymns by heart, and play with worshipful beauty and she has truly been a gift to our church.”
Melanie’s dedication has gone far beyond Sundays and as a former teacher, she sees service as a high calling. A Nolensville resident for 41 years and a Jenkins Cumberland Presbyterian Church member for 38, she has poured her heart into serving her community. In 1988, she started Jenkins Mother’s Day Out Program— today known as Jenkins Day School, with 170 children from the community currently enrolled.
Even in her retirement, Melanie continues to serve—being a member of the Nolensville Running Club, fostering animals with Proverbs 12:10 Animal Rescue, serving with the Jenkins Burrito Ministry and cheering on the next generation of musicians who will sit at the piano.
Through this scholarship, Melanie’s love of music lives on. May each recipient take their own brave seat at the bench, listen to the room, play with love, and create a holy space for others—just as Melanie did for so many years.

f you are looking for more financial security, wish to grow your wealth, or simply need some sound financial advice, then the fortunes of Nolensville’s residents have truly changed for the better. Six months ago, Falcon Financial opened their doors to the community with the goal of providing solutions to help their clientele achieve their financial dreams. Led by a talented and dedicated team of advisors with decades of financial planning experience, the firm brings with them a wealth of knowledge and a personal commitment to empower their clients with ideas and ways to maximize their financial wealth.
A New Chapter in Nolensville
The journey began when the firm’s president, Clay Blanton, partnered with fellow financial advisor, Fred Rich, establishing Falcon Financial in 2016 before relocating to Nolensville four years ago. Their decision to set up shop in Nolensville was driven by a combination of personal connections and a desire to work and raise their families in the community’s close-knit, small-town atmosphere, which aligns perfectly with their focus on personalized advice and guidance.
All the advisors at Falcon Financial consider themselves as “personal CFOs,” providing comprehensive advice in all areas of financial planning, including investment management, tax planning, estate planning, insurance protection, and retirement strategies, to name a few. What makes their firm truly stand out is that they don’t believe in cookie-cutter services or a one-size-fits-all approach. The advisors take the time to understand each client’s unique circumstances, preferences, and life goals. This relationship-centric strategy allows them to develop tailored financial plans that encompass all facets of a client’s financial picture.
“We view ourselves as head coaches, responsible for devising game plans that fit the unique needs of our clients,” Clay elaborated. They invest significant time in getting to know their clients, often forming lasting connections that go beyond financial advice. This personal touch is considered a key element of their success, fostering trust and loyalty among their clientele.
Personalized Advising: More Than Just Numbers
At the core of Falcon Financial’s operation is a strong commitment to fiduciary responsibility. Their approach goes beyond mere transactions; it’s about building long-term relationships based on trust and transparency. Recently, they were recognized by Forbes as a “Best in State” financial advisory firm, affirming their dedication to excellence and their clients’ well-being.
Together, the partners collectively bring over 45 years of experience in the financial industry, yet continue to place significant value on advanced education. Each holds multiple certifications, including

the distinction of being Certified Financial Planners (CFP®), Retirement Income Certified Professionals (RICP®), Chartered Financial Consultants (ChFC®), and Chartered Life Underwriters (CLU®). This depth of knowledge equips them to offer tailored solutions that often surpass those provided by other firms that focus on one-dimensional, transactional services or rely heavily on technology. “Not only do we strive to educate our clients, but we also strive to educate ourselves,” Clay shared.
Despite their impressive technical knowledge, the partners also pride themselves on making financial discussions accessible to their clients. Their goal is to assist their clients in establishing “crystal clear” goals and objectives. With an emphasis on client relationships, they prioritize clear communication and relatability, something their clients have come to truly appreciate. “I aim to simplify complex financial concepts for my clients, making it easier for them to understand their options and decisions,” Fred explained.
Looking to the Future
Their commitment to the community extends beyond the office. Fred serves as a member of the Nolensville Economic Development Committee, and Falcon Financial actively supports many of the schools in Nolensville, Brentwood, and Franklin. With their sights set on future growth to the community abroad, they are enthusiastically expanding their team
to accommodate more clients, bringing in additional advisors who can simplify financial guidance for those who may not require complex solutions. Falcon Financial aims to serve individuals regardless of their financial status, prioritizing moral character and mutual compatibility above all else.
“The things we do for ourselves die with us. The things we do for others lives forever,” Clay shared, echoing the firm’s philosophy of integrating financial advising with genuine human relationships.
Falcon Financial stands out as a trustworthy resource of financial advice in Nolensville, committed not only to clients’ financial well-being but also to the growth and development of the community. With a robust foundation built on trust, experience, and relationship-building, the advisors at Falcon Financial are ready to help you and your family soar to new financial heights.

Nolensville Ball Crew SIDELINE SPOTLIGHT:
ne of the most important but often overlooked jobs on Friday nights is keeping the football moving back and forth from the sidelines to the officials.
The Nolensville High School Ball Crew takes that responsibility seriously, doing an outstanding job each week to help the game run smoothly and stay on schedule.
Harrison Vassar (11), Wyatt Stewart (11), and Reese Hudson (12) have been serving as Nolensville’s Ball Boys for several years. They look forward to each Friday night, knowing they’ll be right in the middle of the action—working alongside players and officials.
When asked why they wanted to be part of the crew, all three gave similar answers: it’s fun to run up and down the field, burn off energy, and have a front-row seat for every game. Their job requires focus and quick reactions, as they have to be ready at all times to get the ball back to the officials after incomplete passes,

turnovers, kickoffs, and more. The officials stay in constant communication with them throughout the game.
When asked about working with the officials, the boys laughed and agreed it’s best when the refs aren’t too strict. Of course, being on the sideline also comes with its risks. Fast-moving plays sometimes end up right where they’re standing, and they’ve even had a few collisions with players.
Still, the excitement makes it worth it. Their favorite part? “Being close to the players, getting to throw the ball in, and seeing all your friends from school.” Looking ahead, all three hope to one day suit up for the Knights themselves—dreaming of playing positions like receiver, cornerback, safety, or right guard.
So, the next time you’re at a Nolensville game, keep an eye out for Harrison, Wyatt, and Reese. These middle schoolers play a vital role every week in keeping the game running smoothly—and they do it with energy, pride, and a love for the sport. Thank you, boys, for your hard work!
