Dear viewers, We would like, even during this extraordinary situation, for our fantastic audience to still be able to encounter the world's most outstanding and thrilling artists each evening – in the safety of their own homes. We believe that there are no limits to the "Müpa Budapest experience", which is why we decided to unlock our media library for everyone over the weeks to come and – each night at the familiar times: 7 pm, 7.30 pm or 8 pm, depending on genre – open Müpa Budapest's virtual concert hall by providing access to an unforgettable performance from past years, which we'll transmit on our website, our Facebook page and our YouTube channel. What is more, as a member of the European Concert Hall Organisation (ECHO) and in the spirit of international solidarity, we will also be streaming concerts on our Facebook page from different prestigious concert halls around Europe, from Lisbon and Hamburg to London – trusting that this will make evenings at home more pleasant. Magashegyi Underground – Moonlight City
An acoustic literary adventure on the Müpa Budapest stage 17 June 2020, Wednesday / 8.00 pm
After four sold-out symphonic concerts, Magashegyi Underground were returning to Müpa Budapest with a brand new show. During the Holdfényváros (Moonlight City) concert, the very name of which captures the dualistic, urban and romantic personality of the band's members, Magashegyi reach for pared-down but modern instrumentation to perform both their older and recent songs. With the cooperation of internationally acclaimed singers and with direction and set design by Hartmut Schörghofer, the festival all takes place under the artistic direction of Ádám Fischer, a musician who speaks the language of Wagner like a mother tongue. Of the four operas, it is perhaps Die Walküre that has the greatest number of musical passages to become established on nonoperatic concert programmes, such as the sweeping storm music, Siegmund's Spring Song, the Ride of the Valkyries, and finally Wotan's Farewell and Magic Fire Music. Almost exactly 160 years will have passed between the original première of Siegfried and this performance in June of 2016: the third piece in the Ring cycle was first heard at the inaugural Bayreuth Festival in August 1876, along with the entire tetralogy, under the baton of Győr-born conductor Hans Richter. There is no leading opera house in which Waltraud Meier has not performed, nor any great Wagnerian conductor with whom she has not worked. In what promises to be an extraordinary closing performance, Siegfried is played by Stefan Vinke, who earned the title of ”superstar” for his portrayal of the hero stripped of his memories in the Seattle Opera's 2013 production of The Ring.
