AMessage From The President
To be caught up in the nickel-dime, day to day, mundane affairs of everyday life is to lose sight of what life is intended to be. it ff December 4th.
Greetings Brothers:
By the time you receive this newsletter, Mu Lambda will have recuperated from the scholar¬ ship fundraiser-”Evening of Classics,” the Congressional Black Caucus Legislative Weekend, and the commencement of the ‘93-94 commencement of Mu Lambda community' service program.
WDCU television station will air asegment on Mu Lambda’s community service endeavors on Wednesday, September 29th at 7:30 p.m. This is the second time in four months that atelevision station is reporting astory on us; Ithink that is really atestimony to the hard work and dedication of the Community Service Committee. It also serves as asymbol of the posi¬ tive change and growth Mu Lambda has experienced in recent years.
Our leadership team has been striving to preserve the best ele¬ ments of the chapter, while work¬ ing hard to introduce innovative programs, whether fraternal or civic, that bring growth to our membership, personal develop¬ ment, and the community as a whole. With success comes change.
On SATURDAY, OCTOBER
16th, Mu Lambda will break with tradition by moving the monthly meeting to aweekend date so that we can conduct a joint chapter meeting and fall retreat. Mu Lambda is at across¬ roads in vision and direction. The fall retreat will focus on four themes: Membership, Team Building (Brotherhood), Fundraising, and Chapter Facility. Ishould also mention that the meeting facility, which is the Potomac river home for George Washington, provides arelaxed setting where the Mu Lambda can set its future support Brothers, the Program Committee has spent alot of energy in developing this unique day. Remember, you can make a difference in the legacy we leave to the generations that follow with astrong Mu Lambda.
Ialso want to bring to your attention two special programs that will round-out our *93 calendar year: the 3rd Annual “Alpha Towne Meeting” on Capitol Hill focusing on emerging public policy issues affecting our local commu¬ nity as well as the African American people; and, our annu¬ al Founders’ Day Luncheon on
Finally, let me publicly state Mu Lambda’s intention to take the initiative on developing community service and membership programs that impact on the conrununity and fraternity. For our membership to wait for the Alpha bureaucracy, on the national or regional level, to develop programs is incomprehen¬ sible. We are an innovative chap¬ ter that rises above the external Alpha politics that tends to stifle our creativity and enthusiasm. Process, for process sake, can be the problem. As the above quote states, life is more than the bureaucratic “nightmare” we sometimes must endure; let’s remember the bigger picture in why we are members of the fra¬ ternity; let’s make our leadership accountable for their decisions that impact our organization; finally, let’s realize that this is our frater¬ nity, this is our chapter, and we must stay focused on “First of All, Servants of All, We Shall Transcend All.”
Thank you for your support. I appreciate the chapter’s unity and look forward to seeing you on SATURDAY, OCTOBER 16th on Collingwood-on-the-Potomac.
