February 1993

AMessage from The President History is aclock that people use to tell their time of day. It is acom¬ pass they use to nd themselves on the map of human geography. It tells them where they are, and what they are.

As Ithink about the past achieve¬ ments of Mu Lambda chapter and our beloved fraternity, Ican’t help but

ponder our history as it relates to the development of African Americans in the 20th century. Most recently, the

passing of Bro. Thurgood Marshall, who received-signi cant support from Alpha Phi Alpha during the Civil Rights era, typi es the impact we have made in our community.

As is customary with each annual observance of African American

History, it is important that we review our compass and determine where we are today, and where we are going. Appropriately, we are in the plan¬ ning/programming stage of aspecial event on Capitol Hill with our Freshman Alpha Congressman, as arranged by Bro. Sam Thornton. In addition, February commences

the beginning of the chapter Intake

program. We are anticipating an exciting entering Intake class that will bring new ideas, vision, energy and vitality to Alpha’s number one chapter. On amore somber note. Mu Lambda was the local coordinator for

the Candlelight vigil on the steps of

the Supreme Court Building this past Wednesday night, January 27, 1993 to commerate the life of our Supreme Court Justice and Alpha Thurgood Marshall. This event was sponsored

by the General Organization. Many
