The Presideiut Bone Marrow Program, we will host areception at the Channel Inn April 26, with an assortment of local of fi cials, friends and members of Alpha. on

Believe that every sacrifice we make will so enrich us in the future that our regret will be that we did not enrich the sacrifice the more.

Greetings: First, let me congrat¬ ulate you [Mu Lambda] on your suc¬ cessful competition for Mid-Atlantic District Chapter-of-the-Year. That s right! We have won the District Competition, which will allow us to compete at the regional level in Princeton, New Jersey, later in April. Many thanks to Bro. Bill McCall who put the display togeth¬ er, under the guidance of Bro. Alan Wiley. Both men have done agood job, and we look forward to updating the display so that it will be success¬ ful at each level of competition.

This award serves as an acknowl¬ edgement that Mu Lambda has worked hard over the past year to encompass the national programs of Alpha as well as create those pro¬ grams critical to the Washington, D.C. community. The foundation for this accomplishment was set by my predecessors, who continue to pro¬ vide guidance and encouragement to the chapter.

In April, Bro. Greer and the Community Service Committee will kick-off apilot program with the National Bone Marrow Program. At previous meetings, we have had individuals discuss the merits of this program. During the April meeting, we will discuss the logistics of our program and how you can

This month is also important because of our elections for the Eastern Region convention delega¬ tion (7); the Beta Mu Lambda Housing Corporation (6); the Heniy Arthur Callis Fund (4); and the Nominations Committee (7). These elections are important because of their distinct and vital functions.

to consider, regarding the type of facility required by Mu Lambda. During the Annual Corporation meeting, also in April, let us have an honest discussion regarding the needs of the chapter, the we are willing to bring to the table, and the manpower to bring this pro¬ ject to fruition.

Bros. John Eason and Jeffrey Kimbrough have proposed interest¬ ing projects that merit our consider¬ ation, if for no other reason than to begin the process of assessment. Perhaps there will be other ideas presented for deliberation. At rate, although the Housing Corporation is charged officially with the task of selecting housing for Mu Lambda, let me remind all members that it is

Message, firtm page 1

The Henry Arthur CalUs Fund represents our educational arm. This year, our new President of that Corporation [Sam Thornton] will have large shoes to fill as he assumes the leadership mantle. There is no question that Bro. Fred Laney has been atireless and devoted laborer for the scholarship fund. We will look forward to receiving Bro. Thornton splans for the next year. In all respects, this education fund will require large infusions of cash. How do we do this? We expect the Fund and the new Mu Lambda Fotmdation, to collaborate on fimdraising ideas, so that the HA Callis Fimd will grow.

Finally, we are studying the concept of educational endowment. In theory, we have not touched the principal funds given to us by Jewel HA, Callis. Bro. Thornton will be proposing an idea to endow those funds so that the original principal contribution will never be spent. At the same time, we want to establish amechanism so that members oan either donate through outright contribution, inheri¬ tance, stock, property, etc to the fund. Thus, we should have alofty goal of building a$100,000 endowment, strictly in accordance with legal requirements. Hopefully, through the recently approved Beautillion project, we will also begin chapter fundraising activities that serve adual role in community service as well.

The quote above reflects sacrifice. Many times, you have fantas¬ tic suggestions; but, these suggestions require research, funds, man¬ power, and implementation. The Executive Board reviews every suggestion, referring it to an appropriate committee, when possible, so that our chapter deliberations result in awell-conceived pro¬ gram. This past month, you adopted two recommendations: (1) the community service foundation; and, (2) the Beautillion project. We are looking for more ideas. We are looking for your input. We are looking for your dedication to those projects.
