The Executive Message: Dialogue on African American Males
Brother Rudolph Harris, PhD President, Mu Lambda Chapter
To address the “continuing plight of African American men who are seeking work and cannot find it, who are ill served by the American health services sector and who are over represented in the criminal justice system,” Congressman and Brother Danny K. Davis, Illinois announced in acommunique that his of fi ce and several co-conveners are sponsoring a national dialogue on the state of the African American male.
The conference is scheduled for November 14 &15 on Capitol Hill in the Library of Congress Madison Building and the Rayburn House Of fi ce Building. In support of this call for action Dr.W.Bobby Austin, program chair of the conference and Vice President of External Affairs at the University of the District of Columbia will be Mu Lambda Chapter’s featured speaker at our Thursday, November 6 meeting at Simpson-Hamline United Methodist Church. Brother Austin, aformer Kellogg Foundation Director will brief us on the planning, directions and the development of an action agenda to help young men become successful. The conference will outline some of the problems affecting African American males and hopefully after deliberations, the participants will develop ideas and propose solutions that will help empower the African-American man.
EXECUTIVE MESSAGE (from Page 1)
How do we share and transmit knowledge about topics and general information in the electronic world without it becoming abother for those who do not wish to receive these communications? Ipose this question Brothers, because some of us are inundated with e-mails whereas others are without computers and are accustomed to receiving information via the telephone or regular mail. Ifeel it is my responsibility and partly yours to engage in dialogue on “what kind of communication or information should we transmit as Brothers?” At the recent discussed meeting Executive communication without having thorough input and reaching adefinitive conclusion, connection, 1am requesting that all officers and committee chairs share their thoughts in the Executive Committee Meeting on Thursday. November 20. at 7:00pm—1110 Vermont Ave. NW, 12th Floor.
