While the life –expectancy gap between men and women has decreased; it’s no secret that men still need to pay more attention to their bodies. Several things work against men. We tend to smoke and drink more than women. They don’t seek medical help as often as women. Some men define themselves by their work, which can add to stress. There are also health conditions that only affect men, such as prostate cancer and low testosterone. Many of the major health risks that men face like colon cancer or heart disease can be prevented and treated with early diagnosis. Screening tests can find diseases early, when they are easier to treat. It’s important to have regular checkups and screenings.
Brothers today the world is plagued by the H1N1 FLU (Swine Flu). Like all types of flu, a virus causes the H1N1 flu. In the spring of 2009, many people in Mexico got sick with H1NI flu. A vaccine for H1N1 flu has been developed and is being distributed. Flu viruses spread mainly when people who have the disease cough or sneeze. Sometimes people become infected when they touch an infected surface (like a phone receiver) and then touch their mouths or noses. A person cannot get H1NI flu by eating or preparing pork
Symptoms of H1N1 Flu
The symptoms of H1N1 flu in people are similar to the symptoms of regular seasonal flu. They include:
• Fever (however, some people with flu may not have a fever)
• Cough and a Sore throat
• Runny or stuffy nose
• Body aches and Headaches
• Chills and Fatigue
• Diarrhea and Vomiting
Often symptoms come on very quickly. If you or a member of your family has flu-like symptoms, contact your health care provider, especially if the symptoms get worse.
Brothers, please take of yourself so that you can live productive lives.
Happy Thanksgiving and stay healthy!

Got books around your house? Some for kids? Don't read them? If the answers to these questions are "yes", then you can critically enhance a young boy or girl's educational opportunities in Africa.
Mu Lambda will be collecting old, new, and used books to donate to kids in Africa. Bring books for kids of all ages to each chapter meeting. We will then send the books to a few preselected villages in Ghana that so earnestly desire to read! You can make a difference by simply cleaning out your book shelf.
What: "Reading Across Borders" book donation project When: At each chapter meeting beginning at the September 3rd chapter meeting Goal: 25 books per chapter meeting

VIE DU VIN” - The Life of Wine
Plans are being finalized for the 2010 Leadership Conference and Summit of the African-American Male. While this is not a “general” convention, I am requesting that all chapter, district and regional leaders be present to receive necessary and beneficial training to further develop our chapter’s effectiveness and efficiency. We will further develop our work with the young boys and sharpen our focus of the “From the High Chair to Higher Education” program.
The brothers of Phoenix have already begun their work assisting the convention-planning team and corporate office staff to make the Alpha visit to Arizona one of our best gatherings ever. All Brothers who register before December 31, 2009, will receive a complimentary copy of the Centennial Convention DVD Collection. We must have no less that 1,200 brothers present.

Jennings’ skills were so accepted that people near and far came to him to alter or custom tailor articles of clothing for them. When he was thirty years old, in 1821, he was granted a patent for a dry cleaning process called “dry scouring.” This enabled him to build his business.
The first money Jennings earned was spent on the legal fees to purchase his family out of slavery, and then to support the abolitionist cause.
In 1831, Jennings became Assistant Secretary to the First Annual Convention of the People of Color. The convention was held in Philadelphia at Wesleyan Church on Lombard Street. A major part of the platform was the opposition to the colonization movement.
