Message from the Office of the President Brother Timothy Fitzgerald
Brothers, as you know this is a time of year of rededication. A New Year’s Resolution is a commitment that an individual makes to a project or the reforming of a habit, often a lifestyle change that is generally interpreted as advantageous. The name comes from the fact that these commitments normally go into effect on New Year’s Day and remain until fulfilled or abandoned. More socio-centric examples include resolutions to donate to the poor more often, to become more assertive, or to become more economically or environmentally responsible. People may act similarly during the Christian fasting period of Lent, though the motive behind this holiday is more of sacrifice than of responsibility.
Brothers please commit to joining a committee to assist your chapter in carrying out its goals. Also, I believe it would be advantageous to you and to the fraternity to bring a Brother that has been absent from the Brotherhood. This will be a way of reconnecting and rededicating your time, talent, and resources to the organization that you pledged to serve. I am proud to say that Mu Lambda Chapter is currently fully implementing all of our National Programs. It is through events like these we marshal our forces and gather the resources necessary to fulfill our mission. In our 85th year, we have much to celebrate, yet we also have a tremendous amount of work to do as we move forward the Alpha Agenda of Leadership and Service
Mu Lambda Chapter has always been in the forefront supplying voice, vision, and leadership to our community and uplift to the disadvantaged in the Washington Metropolitan area. Through your hard work and support, we will continue to uphold our responsibilities as we confront the opportunities that lie ahead. Brothers please include service in Mu Lambda as part of your New Year’s Resolution.
Seasons Greetings to everyone and I pray that you have a prosperous and healthy New Year! The Next Chapter meeting will be the second Thursday, January 8th 2008, 7:06 pm

Alpha Wives Christmas Brunch
Thanks to all Alphas, Alpha Wives, family and friends, the Christmas Brunch at Mrs Kʹ s Toll House Restaurant was a great success. The restaurant was beautifully decorated for the holidays. The food was excellent and abundant, and the fellowship was wonderful. This event got us in the mood for Christmas. Alpha Wives brought wrapped Christmas gifts that were presented later to residents of Stoddard Baptist Home by Alpha Wife Bonnie Seabron.

A Grand Affair
On December 6th, nearly 500 well wishers braved inclement weather and traffic snarls to make their way to La Fontaine Bleu of Glen Burnie to celebrate the retirement of the Rev. Dr. Barbara J. Sands. We know her as the dynamic, compassionate, soul who is always there to support Mu Lambda Chapter. She is also the wife of Brother Douglas B. Sands, Sr. Brother Julius and Mrs. Angela Brice, Brother Lawrence and Mrs. Sarah Montgomery, Brother Rudolph and Mrs. Janette Harris, and Brothers Tim Fitzgerald and Arthur King represented Mu Lambda at the festivities. Brothers Wil Christian, Adrian Vincent James, Louis Ford and Orlando Xavier Hixon also contributed to our tribute to Rev. Sands. Brother Fitzgerald presented her a bouquet of yellow “Alpha” roses and a gift on our behalf.
There are only a few days left to register for the 2009 Inauguration & Symposium.

Goodwill: for the season ….. and all the year long
Mu Lambda Chapter spread joy and holiday cheer to a number of youngsters in our community, last month. We participated in the Dr. Bear’s Toy Closet sponsored by Children’s Hospital, we provided toys and gifts to Tots served by the Edward C. Mazique Parent Child Center of DC, and we made the holidays brighter for 14 youngsters referred to us by DC's Child and Family Services Agency. Chapter Community Service funds and the personal generosity of Brothers Tim Fitzgerald, Arthur Fields, Julius Brice, Jay Speight, Dwayne Jackson, Joe Jones and Arthur King made our sharing possible. Brother Jones, Community Service Chair, extends his thanks to all who lent a hand

Beautillion News
Brother Mark Ross, chair of our 2008-2009 Beautillion Academy, hosted the annual gathering of Beaux from prior years and our current Academy members at his home. “Alumni Beaux” shared their insights on college life and issues young men of color face on a daily basis. The “low-down” on certain topics not discussed on campus visits, on web sites, or by others “who have not been there lately” were fully explored.
A number of parents attended and mothers of former Beaux shared their Beautillion experiences. They offered advice on finding a stylish, but comfortable outfit for the gala, tips on learning the dance steps, and how to involve family and friends in soliciting support.
Brother Ross indicates that each Beaux has at least one mentor, but, more mentors are needed. Your help is also needed with soliciting and purchasing souvenir journal ads, gala ticket sales, and scholarship funding. Your attendance and participation at the Sunday afternoon sessions (schedule listed herein) are critical to the success of our Beautillion program.
The Beautillion Gala is scheduled for April 19, 2009. Reserve your tickets early.

By 1940, Studebaker awarded him a new car franchise, which was successful until 1956 when Studebaker went out of business. By 1963, Chrysler awarded Davis a Chrysler-Plymouth new car dealership, which he operated successfully until his retirement in 1971.
By the time he wrote his book in 1979, dozens of African American auto dealers had stepped through the door he opened, and currently there are more than a thousand minority owned dealer franchises. He was inducted into the Automotive Hall of Fame in 1996 along side Henry Ford and the Dodge Brothers.
