We’re also backing the Fourths to pick up their first win of the year this week as they continue to improve in every match

In the Ones, we’re working to get back to winning ways after a loss and a washout in recent rounds. This week’s two-day clash against Gembrook is a great chance for us to reset and return to the winners’ list

A special mention goes to the players who have been consistently pushing themselves at training. In particular, shout-out to Wickets for his effort and application over the past few weeks. His hard work has paid off with a well earned selection back into the Twos, well done and all the best this weekend

With only a few weeks left until the break, let’s finish strong. Give it your best and go well.

Gator on!

Hi Gators,

CAPTAINKEV

After six round, as a club we are placed in a good position in the lead up to Christmas break. Our 1XI are currently sitting 3rd, 2XI 6th being two games out of the four, 3XI 3rd and 4XI currently sitting 8th

Great to see our Vets team sitting 4th at the moment, while the ladies 1XI 2nd and our 2XI are 8th

Overall it’s great to see the amount of sides we have representing Mountain Gate, and consistently getting numbers.

Training has been fantastic, the leadership team working alongside Shaun and Tucks is always looking at ways to improve and getting it engaging Recently playing a T20 against Upper Gully where our lads brought home the win

With the 1XI we have an important couple of weeks, upcoming match against Gembrook, need to win the next few games to hopefully lock in a home final

CAPTAINGA

Hey Gator fam!

Shoutout to Josh Hardman, in the last game he bowled for the first time medium pace, and his figures were 6/74 off 24overs, this was over two bowling spells Another shoutout to VC Brodie leading the side, captaining well against Knox Boronia to only just fall short of the win However, the experience gained is invaluable to him for the future

Gator On Kev

We’ve had a rough start, the weather’s really disrupted our season with our Ladies 1XI having a few washouts and our Ladies 2XI have only played two games so far. But despite that, vibes are high, and we’re excited to welcome a few new additions to our squad in Abbie Pascoe, Miah Pearce, and Firooza Amiri. Please make them feel at home at the club!

The games we have played have seen some great individual results, which given the vibe of the squad allows us to celebrate together and produce the best possible team result as a result

A huge shout-out to Chopstar and Sandi who represented Victoria at the National Women’s Masters Championship in Perth last month and came home with gold What an incredible result for them, we are all extremely proud!

Also, a big congratulations to everyone who was selected in the Region 8 Women’s team for the VCCL Country Week Carnival in Bendigo last week! Myself, Miah, Firooza, Humaira and Chop had lots of fun and we are all very grateful for the opportunity!

Here’s hoping the weather improves soon so we can get back on the field and get more games in before Christmas!

GATORSTIGHTAGAINST BURRAS,HOTSAUCEIN OLINDAWASHOUT

After starting the season at 2-1, Mountain Gate have been dealt a check following a last-over loss to Knox Boronia and a washout against Olinda

The Gators Round 5 match against Knox Boronia reverted to a one day affair after a washout call The revised match saw the Gators set the score first at Miller Park, with Shaun Nugara the early start at the top with 21 from 29 balls

James Dekel teamed up with Nugara and then Wayne Davidson (23 from 58 balls), Dekel partnering with the latter for a 109-run 3 wicket stand at 3/157 in the 35 over With 5 overs remaining, the push for runs was on and allowed the Burra’s to fight back with the ball, Brodie Wise being the only score in the latter overs, hitting 24 not out from just 14 balls to help reach 9/203. rd th

But yet again the highlight of the innings was James Dekel, reaching his first century of the season with 105 from 98 balls, including 14 fours and a six. The century saw Dekel push past the 300-run mark for the season at an average of 101.33.

In reply, it was a great start with the ball leaving the hosts 2/8 in the 4 over However the fight begun as the Burra’s middle order steadied the run chase Knox Boronia continued the push at 4/153 in the 32 over –requiring 51 runs from 48 balls in a tight contest th nd

Runs continued to be scored at the required rate but so too did wickets fall, with Brady Pensa and Brodie

Wise providing options as the match tightened even further between the teams.

Needing 11 from the final 2 overs, the hosts took flight in the 39 over before Brodie Wise was tasked with the final over. Wise claimed a wicket 3 balls in with the match still on the line, however the 4 ball saw Knox Boronia scamper home by 4 wickets th th

Brady Pensa was the pick of the attack claiming 2/51 from 8 overs, whilst Chamud Bhasula (1/24 from 8), Dulana Karunachandra (1/26 from 8) and Brodie Wise (1/30 from 44) all claimed wickets

Round 6 saw the Gators travel to Olinda to face the ladder leaders for a second time this season, with the visitors advised to bowl first It was a slow burn early, with the Bloods reaching 0/72 before Josh Hardman struck in the 19 over Hardman then backed up with a double-wicket over to have the hosts 3/72 Brady Pensa (1/31 from 11 overs) joined in and at 4/82 momentum started to swing th

But this was to swing again as Olinda’s middle order held up – the 100-run partnership broken when Hardman again struck in the 55 over th

Wickets fell at regular intervals for the rest of the match, with Chamud Bhasula (1/50 from 13 overs) and Brodie Wise (1/32 from 10.4 overs) registering scalps. However none could match Josh Hardman, claiming career-best figures of 6/74 from 24 overs to help restrict the hosts to 251.

But a result from the match wasn’t to be, with rain on Day 2 rendering the ground unplayable with the match abandoned without a ball being bowled

The shared points against the Bloods sees Mountain Gate sitting in 3 place, with a bumper December fixture against Gembrook at Gembrook (6-13 December), St Johns Tecoma at Talaskia (14 December) and Olinda at Olinda (20 December) to not only wrap up the 2025 year, but to determine key placings heading into 2026 rd

BLOODSBOWLEDOVERBY GATORSFORFIRSTWIN

Mountain Gate’s 2 XI is now on the board courtesy of a Round 6 win over Olinda nd

With the Round 4 match against Johnson Park rescheduled to December, Mountain Gate hosted South Belgrave at HV Jones in a rain-shortened match for Round 5. Batting first, the Gators were on the back foot early with a wicket before Tom Button and Shoaib Sobhan stabilised the innings.

Sobhan backed up his earlier century against Monbulk with a half century before being dismissed for 60 from 52 balls. But the visitor bowling attack began to get to work, claiming wickets at frequent intervals to have the Gators 5/90 after 22 overs

Starts from Pamir Hussaini (10 from 14 balls), Jeff Hunt (13 from 23 balls) and Eraj Wimalaratna (14 not out from 30 balls) helped to push the scoreboard along towards a competitive score, however South were up for the challenge, dismissing the hosts for 139 after 39 overs

With runs on the board, the Gators needed a quick start with the ball against the visitors, and Luke Bakker (1/21 from 3 overs) provided But again the experienced South lineup regrouped and pushed the partnership along, with Ethan Williams (1/19 from 3 overs) and Tom Button (1/29 from 4 overs) registering on the scoreboard at 3/98 in the 18th

Shah Sobhan was again amongst the runs against South, scoring 60 from 52 balls

In need of a result to kickstart the season, the Gators hosted Olinda in Round 6 at Windermere Reserve, with a clinical performance nearly securing the points on Day 1.

Wimalaratna was in peak form against Olinda, taking 2/7 from 11 overs to help get the Gators on the board in Season 2025/26

Electing to bowl first, the hosts had the Bloods on the back foot early at 2/7, with wickets apiece to Eraj Wimalaratna and Luke Bakker. Reprieve was short lived as Cooper Gwynne and Chris Tuplin joined the attack and as the scoreboard reach 6/57, the Gators were well on top

Bhisma Pokharel (1/20 from 7 overs) and Tom Button (1/10 from 5 overs) claimed wickets, before Wimalaratna and Bakker returned to conclude the Olinda innings – all out for 90 after 56 overs

Multiple wickets were the order of the day, with Luke Bakker (2/18 from 92 overs) Chris Tuplin (2/9 from 6 overs), Cooper Gwynne (2/9 from 12 overs) and the metronomical Eraj Wimalaratna (2/7 from 11 overs) all keeping the pressure on

With the bat, the Gators reached 2/74 before stumps on Day 1, Christ Tuplin having fallen 12 from 13 balls before Tom Button (26 not out from 83 balls) and Pamir Hussaini (39 from 65 balls) helped to steer Mountain Gate to their first win

The points help elevate the Gators to 6 place, with matches against Belgrave (6-13 December, HV Jones), Johnson Park (14 December, HV Jones) and Olinda (20 December, Olinda Reserve).

Matthew Carter joined the later-overs scoring (13 from 19 balls), with Miranda in a race against the clock to reach the milestone An unfortunate run out 4 balls from the end saw Miranda depart for 46 from 51 balls, as the Gators posted 8/157 from their 35 overs

Matthew Carter wasted no time, 4 balls was all it took to send the stumps flying at 1/1 Wickets again in the early phase halted any of the advance with the scoreboard reading 4/17 after 8 overs

Mountain Gate’s 4 XI continues on its development arc after matches against experienced lineups Monbulk and Olinda across November

It was quite some time before the next Gator, however well worth the wait as the wickets began to fall more frequently Giulieri continued on her way, working well in tandem with Matthew Carter to help restrict the Bloods to 214

In response, whilst runs were difficult to find at the beginning, all Gator bats continued to occupy the crease and spend some valuable development time in the middle Melissa Button, Matthew Whitfield and Lucas Santilli all clocked time, allowing the middle order to get starts

Puneet Sharma (11 from 36), Srihaas Esarapu (18 from 76 balls), Mikaela Giulieri (12 from 60 balls) and Matthew Carter (16 from 32 balls) all benefited on the earlier efforts The lower order also occupied time, reaching 106 after 71 overs

GATORSKLPS CONTINUE IMPROVEMENTS AGAINSTMULGRAVE

Mountain Gate’s Women’s 2 XI returned for their 2 match this season, coming up against a strong Mulgrave team nd nd

Having lost the toss, the Gator/SKLPS were sent in to field as the visitors toiled hard with the ball in hand, providing plenty of opportunities for the bowlers in the squad

Ayesha Afghan was the pick, claiming a wicket in the 4 over at 1/13 Afghan would claim 1/14 from her 3 overs, with her opening partner 0/9 from 2 overs Mahek Patel (0/11 from 2 overs) and Yashwini Pindoria (0/10 from 2 overs) partnered well without reward with tidy figures in the T20 format. th

Divyani Raghvani (0/6 from 1 over), Prisha Pindoria (0/10 from 2 overs) and Krupa Varsani (0/7 from 2 overs) also bowled well given the quality of opposition batting lineup. Despite the lack of opportunities given for wickets, the Gator/SKLPS contained Mulgrave to 1/101 from their 20 overs.

In response, the Gator/SKLPS were under siege almost immediately as Mulgrave claimed the top 5 wickets for 4 runs at the 5 over mark Hiral Raghwani occupied time at the crease, reaching 4 from 23 runs as the Gator/SKLPS looked to prolong the innings for some valuable match experience
