review football review by james c. ryan tech information director there were times this past season when the montana tech orediggers could do no wrong, but there were also times when the "diggers" couldn't do much of anything right either. happily the good times outnumbered the bad as the orediggers chalked up a respectable 5-3 record. tech's first game of the season was a heartbreaker as the orediggers went down to defeat at the hands of fort lewis college 27-26. tech had the game virtually wrapped up with only nine seconds showing on the scoreboard clock as the fort lewis quarterback let fly a pass which ended in an 87 yard touchdown. not letting defeat get the best of them, the orediggers came back the next game against oregon tech and handed them a 17-7 loss. montana tech running back, buddy walsh, had his first of several stellar days as he rambled for 184 yards. western montana bowed to the "diggers" 35-19 as tech's reggie johnson returned a wayward western pass 69 yards for six points. with their adrenalin flowing the tech charges destroyed the eastern montana college yellowjackets 47-7. buddy walsh had his best running day of the year as he amassed 255 yards. homecoming for montana tech started out on a bright note with a bonfire the night before and the traditional parade in the morning, but the festive atmosphere was to be short lived as the carroll college saints left town with a 28-14 victory. along with the victory they assured themselves of a share of the conference title. the passing of lance orner proved to be too much for the orediggers to overcome as they next fell victim to rocky mountain college 52-21. with the conference games behind them the orediggers finished their season on a winning note as they defeated mi not state 23-14, and westminster 28-12. with the tech roster generously sprinkled with freshman and sophomores, coach john me mahon will return the askings of a winning team next year and hopefully for years to come.

facing perhaps the most demanding schedule in tech basketball history, the orediggers were also overcome by the problem of fan apathy. most games were played before somewhat sparse crowds. however, during both victories and setbacks, the team has looked impressive. most games were close in points and long in excitement.

this years oredigger team was guided by five valuable senior players. ted ackerman and paul appel were the teams two top scorers, while pat folev, chuck myers, and glenn patrick led the team in rebounding. these five set the stage for an exciting, yet somewhat disappointing season.

Utilities are like any other business-when costs go up, rates must follow. Montana Power expenses per customer for operation and maintenance of its system are almost twice those of 10 years ago. That's one reason utility rates have gone up. Cost increases r~· must be reflected in \W utility rates. MONTANA POWER
