A. A. BADENHORST
Adi Badenhorst grew up among the vineyards of Groot Constantia, where his grandfather served as general manager for 46 years. As a child, Adi spent his days picking (and occasionally stealing) grapes and made his first wine at the age of thirteen, with renowned winemaker Jean Daneel. Adi studied at Elsenburg, then went to work harvest at Chateau Angelus & Alain Graillot in France, Wither Hills in NZ and locally at Simonsig, Steenberg & Groote Post. He spent nine years as winemaker at the esteemed Stellenbosch estate, Rustenberg. In 2008, Adi and his cousin Hein bought a 148 acre (60 ha) piece of land in the Swartland appellation, and A.A. Badenhorst Family Wines was born. Since its inception, the cousins have remained committed to the tenets of the family estate: to practice biological farming and make natural wines in the traditional manner. Over time they have acquired more vineyards and today farm 395 acres (160 ha). —www.thesortingtable.com

ALEVA
ALEVA is the story of Alejandro Fernández—a man who dedicated his life to wine—and whose legacy lives on through his daughter, Eva. Fernández is recognized as a visionary who helped to revitalize Ribera del Duero and bring its quality wines to the international stage. He was a driving force behind the creation of the Ribera del Duero Designation of Origin (DO) and remains one of Spain’s most celebrated wine producers. Beginning in 1993, Eva and her father worked side by side as a winemaking team until his passing in 2021. Together, they crafted a wine that reflects not only the unique terroir of Ribera del Duero but also their shared passion and commitment.
Aleva Ribera del Duero is produced from 100% Tempranillo, sustainably farmed at nearly 3,000 feet altitude, facing northwest on clay-limestone soil in the province of Burgos. The fruit is hand-harvested, de-stemmed and fermented in stainless steel with natural yeasts. After malolactic fermentation in barrel, the wine ages 27 months in new and used American oak barrels. The high altitude and exposure of the vineyard was chosen deliberately to prioritize finesse and elegance in the wines in preference to weight and power. The 2021 vintage is the first to be sold in the US. www.thesortingtable.com

In the 1960s George Urquhart, one of the first of four generations of the Urquhart family to shape the future of Gordon & MacPhail, pioneered a range of single malt Scotch whiskies, which he selected, matured, and bottled. In doing so, he effectively invented a category in a market previously focused entirely on blended whiskies.
The 'Connoisseurs Choice' range broke innovative new ground, giving a platform to many of Scotland’s single malt distilleries from across all regions, some of which had never before been bottled as a single malt.
Over the past five decades, we have maintained our belief that every distillery has a personality of its own. The collection of whiskies in the 'Connoisseurs Choice' range is constantly evolving, aiming always to highlight the unique characteristics of the individual distilleries.

CASTELLO D’ALBA
Winemaker Rui Roboredo Madeira was raised in the heartlands of Portugal’s Douro Superior, a remote yet magical corner of the Iberian Peninsula where his family had owned vineyards and olive groves for more than 200 years. Here the scents and smells of the rugged landscapes made a powerful impression on him. After travelling through many of the winemaking regions of the world and learning their winegrowing and winemaking practices, he returned to his family vineyards in the Douro in the late 1990s, convinced of the area’s potential to make world class dry wines.
Rui became one of the pioneers of “new wave” Portuguese winemaking in the early 2000s who, according to Wine Spectator, “set… the pace for the rising quality of the nation’s table wines.” For more than 20 years now, he has been working to coax the best out of indigenous Douro grape varieties such as Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Jaen.
Based in the Douro Superior, Castello d’Alba was the first wine that Rui Roboredo Madeira released, in 2000. Today Castello d’Alba continues to combine traditional grape varieties with modern winemaking techniques and has become a leading brand of the Douro. The wines are made from a selection of grapes from top vineyards throughout the Upper Douro and are vinified and matured in Rui Madeira’s winery in São João da Pesqueira. www.ruimadeira.pt

FORAL
The Melgaço region is the original home of Alvarinho grape. Melgaco, the most northern region of Portugal, is protected by the surrounding mountains that allow a perfect marriage between rainfall, temperature and the number of hours of sunshine need it for the maturation of the Alvarinho grape. It is here that Quinta do Regueiro Estate produces Foral Alvarinho.
In 1988, the first vineyard was planted on a plot of merely 0.3 hectares. Over the following 10 years, the Estate’s owner, Paulo Rodrigues, continue to plant his vineyards on terraces to increase production making it total 15 hectares. www.mswalker.com
FRIDA KAHLO WINES

GRAINGER’S DELUXE ORGANIC VODKA
GUIDO MARSELLA
Founded in 1995 by Guido Marsella, his facility and estate vines are located in the town of Summonte, which is a high elevation, hilly area in the Avellino DOCG area in Campania. Here he owns around 25 hectares of land, only about 8 hectares of that are under vine, all of which are planted to the Fiano grape.
Although Fiano is Guido’s number one focus and passion he also produces small amounts of wine from the other two primary white grapes of Campania, Falanghina and Greco. It was only more recently that he began working with these two varieties, both coming from a parcel that he began working with and farming in 2007. The parcel, Poggi Reali, is located near Beneventano in the Greco di Tufo DOCG.
All farming is done with organic practices, both on his estate owned vineyards and those that he farms just north east of his estate in the Greco di Tufo DOCG. Harvesting typically takes place a bit later here than at many other estate in the region, Guido prefers the fruit to be at the peak of ripeness. All harvests are carried out by hand to ensure only high quality fruit is being brought back to the winery.
All of Guido’s wines are fermented and aged entirely in stainless steel containers, with some fine lees contact. The wine spends 12 months in tank before being bottled and then aged a further year in bottle at the winery before release.

JOSEPH A. MAGNUS
Magnus’ story begins all the way back in the young, war-torn America of the middle nineteenth century. His late father had been a merchant, and Magnus took after him to become a savvy businessman. He soon discovered a niche market for wholesale liquors, and by the time he was twenty-six he had painstakingly built up a liquor empire based out of Cincinnati, Ohio. Magnus prided himself not only on the quality and age of his spirits, but on intelligent and honorable business methods. Excellent whiskey, he recognized, was more than simply a pleasant experience for the drinker – it was a means of promoting good conversation, close fellowship, and “the interchange of kindly deeds and pleasant thoughts.”
Then, nearly a century later, a fortunate discovery was made by one of Magnus’ great-grandsons: a bottle of 122-year-old Murray Hill Club Whiskey, tucked away and seemingly forgotten. The possibility of having an original, unadulterated remnant of Magnus’ famed whiskey was incredibly exciting and also carried a weight of responsibility to do justice to this beautifully aged and preserved bottle. To make sense of this rare find, the family gathered industry veterans to extract a few milliliters from the famed bottle, to taste, test, and reproduce, if possible. These experts were stunned to discover it to be one of the greatest bourbons they had ever tasted.
Today, using the same blending and finishing techniques Joseph Magnus employed over 100 years ago, Magnus Master Blender, Nancy Fraley, finishes 12-year-old bourbon in a triple cask finishing process using Oloroso Sherry, Pedro Ximénez, and Cognac casks. The result is that we have come as close as possible to the original Joseph Magnus Bourbon in that 122-year-old bottle. www.josephmagnus.com

PASQUA - ROMEO & JULIET
The story of Pasqua Vigneti e Cantine began in 1925, when the first generation of the Pasqua brothers arrived in Verona with the aim of founding a company dedicated to the sale of wines from their homeland, Puglia. Within a few years, the brothers established a winery and began to acquire vineyards in the area surrounding Verona. With nearly a century of history producing and selling high quality Italian wines from the Veneto and beyond, Pasqua is now a third generation family business. Tradition, innovation, quality, research and passion are the values handed down from generation to generation. Pasqua’s Romeo and Juliet PASSIONE E SENTIMENTO (“Passion and feeling”) range celebrates the great history, culture and beauty of Verona, home city of the Pasqua family. If wine “is the Poetry of the Earth to Heaven,” as Mario Soldati said, it also tells a story. These wines speak to the love story that made Verona famous all over the world, the tale of the star-crossed lovers Romeo and Juliet. A legend, a place, a myth that attracts thousands of tourists every day to visit one of the most romantic places and invites them to leave and exchange as many messages of love in the courtyard of the same name. An original shot of Juliet’s courtyard by the photographer Giò Martorana adorns the wines, an unmistakable element of their identity. www.pasqua.it

VAN ZELLERS
Van Zellers was officially established as a Port Wine shipper in 1780, by the first generation of Portuguese van Zellers. One of the earliest larger shippers, it was sold to other wine merchants in the middle of the 19th century. It was then reacquired by the van Zeller family in the 1930s, when it was incorporated by Quinta do Noval. Quinta do Noval was then owned by Cristiano’s great-grandfather, Luís de Vasconcellos Porto, whose only daughter and heiress, Cristiano’s grand-mother Rita de Vasconcellos Porto, had recently married his grand-father Cristiano van Zeller, descendant of the founder through the eldest male line. van Zellers & Co. was again sold by the van Zeller family along with Quinta do Noval in 1993, entering a stage of dormancy, with no stocks or commercial activity. In 2006, Cristiano finally reacquired the company and its brands. That same year he started producing the “VZ” and “van Zellers” Douro DOC wines, and in 2009 the van Zeller Ports, thus opening a new chapter in this more than two-hundred-year-old company.
VENGE VINEYARDS
The Venge (ven-ghee) family has farmed vitis vinifera varieties in Napa Valley for nearly a half-century. It is a journey that began when Knud Venge migrated from Denmark to the United States in the early 1900’s. Knud’s son, Per Venge, found his passion in the wine and spirits industry and started Vencom Imports, focusing on the importation of Western European fine wines and spirits. It was Per’s son, Nils Venge, who left the family business in the 1960’s with a vision to study viticulture at UC Davis and establish the family namesake as an icon within the winegrowing community. Nils’ son, Kirk Venge, gravitated to winemaking at an early age. He proved to be as talented a winemaker as his father, making wines in his own style, with a vision to build his own legacy in the valley. In 2008, Kirk achieved his lifelong dream and acquired full ownership of Venge Vineyards from his family. Today, Kirk continues the Napa Valley heritage, focusing on select vineyard sites that produce fruit worthy of bearing the Venge family name. www.vengevineyards.com
VILLA BUCCI
Villa Bucci represents one of Italy’s most important white-wine legacies, built on Ampelio Bucci’s groundbreaking vision and carried forward today by Federico Veronesi. From the hills of Le Marche, the estate redefined what Verdicchio could be: complex, elegant, and profoundly age-worthy, at a time when Italian whites were meant to be drunk young. Working exclusively with estate fruit from old, organically farmed vineyards, Bucci blends tradition with quiet innovation, from meticulous site selection to long aging in large, neutral Slavonian oak. The result is a singular expression of Verdicchio that marries terroir, longevity, and unmistakable identity.
