Destynee Two Moons Hometown: Billings, MT Degree: Psychology with a minor in English

A Message from Chancellor Hicswa

For nearly a century, MSU Billings and our community have been uniquely connected in doing great things.

Whether it was using downtown business space in the early years to prepare elementary teachers as Eastern Montana Normal School or connecting graduates to a growing economy when we were Eastern Montana College or advancing new programs as Montana State University Billings, the community has always been there for us. Likewise, by providing well-prepared graduates for the workforce, we have been there for you.

Since the first Wine & Food Festival was held in 1993, the legacy of community support has endured. Your unwavering generosity in support of MSU Billings’ students is commendable and has not gone unnoticed. Thanks to you and your contributions to MSU Billings Foundation & Alumni scholarships, students have been able to fulfill educational goals and find employment right here in Billings, the region, and the world.

Our work together is far from complete. While the hopes, dreams, and resolve of our students remain strong, financial needs persist. Your continued generosity through the Wine & Food Festival sends a message to our students that we believe in them. Together, we remain committed to their education and their futures.

Enjoy this evening and thank you for the contributions you make to benefit our students.

Wine Master and

Greg

Morthole

Winemaker at Rodney Strong

Wine Estates, Sonoma County, California

As an Air Force brat, Greg moved frequently before his family settled in Sacramento. His love of nature led him to the University of Wyoming, where he earned a degree in Natural Sciences. After graduation, a move to Sonoma County to join his girlfriend, now wife, Mary, unexpectedly introduced him to the wine industry. In 1999, he joined Vinquiry, working alongside respected winemakers Marty Bannister and MaryAnn Graf. He later held roles at Chalk Hill Winery before finding his home at Rodney Strong.

Since then, Greg has advanced from Quality Control Lab Manager to Associate Winemaker to Winemaker. Today, he leads winemaking for Davis Bynum Winery and crafts the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines for Rodney Strong.

Greg describes his approach as “low impact,” believing most of the work is done in the vineyard and during fermentation. He credits mentors Rick Sayre, David Ramey, and Davis Bynum for shaping his philosophy, learning honesty, patience, and humility along the way.

Greg lives in Santa Rosa with Mary and their two children, Lucas and Cora. An avid hiker and mountain biker, he dreams of one day completing the 2,650-mile Pacific Crest Trail, a fitting goal for someone who has built a career by thinking big.

Featured Wineries

Rodney Strong

Behind every bottle of Rodney Strong is a passionate family dedicated to crafting world-class Sonoma County wines. In 1971, Rod Strong recognized Alexander Valley as an ideal place to grow exceptional grapes, planting our first vineyard and laying the foundation for what we are today.

Now, with over 60 years of family ownership and 1,158 acres across 12 estate vineyards, Rodney Strong produces terroirdriven wines that showcase the very best of Sonoma County, from Cabernet Sauvignon to Chardonnay and beyond. United by the love of the land and commitment to quality, Rodney Strong believes nothing brings people together like sharing a superb bottle of Rodney Strong.

Davis Bynum

Born from a love of the Russian River Valley and a passion for exceptional winemaking, Davis Bynum Wines carries forward the legacy of a true pioneer of the region. With over 50 years of experience, we craft awardwinning Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from River West Vineyard that reflect the character of the land.

Winemaker Greg Morthole’s “Let the Land Speak” philosophy honors that tradition, focusing on quality, consistency, and the belief that great wine begins with great grapes.

Rowen Wine Company

In farming parlance, “rowen” is a second-harvest of hay in one season, an unexpected windfall. Rowen is that windfall, a pleasant surprise, constantly innovating, always pushing the envelope.

ROWEN Wine Company is built around an indomitable, independent way of life; each bottling encapsulates the spirit of Cooley Ranch vineyard. It’s truly unique and one-ofa-kind. In that spectacularly special place, we are stewards of the land of Cooley Ranch, where every decision is steeped in sustainable vineyard practices.

Sponsored by Rodney Strong Estates

Alexander’s Crown vineyard was established in 1971 and is recognized as the first vineyard in Alexander Valley to produce a single vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon. In 2016 the elements aligned to make it a fabulous year to grow grapes in California and Sonoma. Alexander Guzman rated the 2016 crown 93 and said, “The texture is opulent for a mountain wine and a cabernet sauvignon, allowing you to drink it now if you must. My advice is to cellar this wine for a decade, to enable it to spread its wings. Indeed, this is the best young Crown I have tasted, and it will only improve in the bottle.”
