Int’l job offers push teachers to resign by: ELIZZAGRABILLO Due to overwhelming workloads and limited career advancement, several teachers at Maryknoll School of Lupon, Inc. in Lupon, Davao Oriental have recently resigned as they leave for better job opportunities abroad amid ongoing challenges in the local education sector. RESOURCE LIMITATIONS. Recently, 9% of the teaching staff at Maryknoll School of Lupon, Inc. left to work abroad, particularly in Japan, after being offered better job opportunities and career paths showing the growing trend of Filipino educators seeking improved conditions overseas. “While my professional life in the Philippines gave a solid foundation and significant insights to the educational context, I felt that the resources and assistance available were quite limited when compared to what I could obtain elsewhere,” Ms. Aisha R. Palma said in an online interview by the Bridge Press. JOB OPPORTUNITIES. In a survey conducted by The Bridge Press, about 85.7% of teachers voted “Yes” to the question whether they would accept any opportunity to work abroad and leave their work here in MSLu, revealing willingness among teachers to seek better financial stability and professional growth outside the country.

tudents and teachers at Maryknoll School of Lupon, Inc. are experiencing severe pressure this school year due to its shortened duration of eight months classes, compared to the usual ten months, resulting in an overwhelming consolidation of activities within a short span of time.
The Department of Education in July issued the DepEd Order No. 009, s. 2024 stating that classes for the 20242025 school year in all public and private institutions will officially begin on July 29, 2024, and conclude on or before April 15, 2025, a shorter duration compared to the traditional ten-month academic calendar.
