Our International Immersive programme offers an outstanding opportunity for international children to join Mowden Hall School for a term. Courses are appropriate for English speakers. Each week the children will enjoy a varied timetable of academic and recreational activities. Our boarders live in the heart of Mowden Hall School. The magnificent 180 year old building Mowden Hall was originally built as a family home. Our dorms have period features and most have superb views across the 50 acres of gardens and grounds. Boarding is overseen by Miss Serbrock, Head of Boarding and her team living within the school.

g n i r e t a C Our delicious food is provided by our dedicated Catering Team who specialise in providing freshly prepared nutritious food, using local produce. As a School, we accommodate pupils with particular dietary needs (whether religious, cultural or medical) through our Healthy Eating and Dietary Needs Policy which highlights that we are sensitive to children with specific dietary needs. Theme nights are a regular feature of the catering provision and are popular with the boarders. The Boarding Team regularly provides the Catering Team with feedback from boarders .

Boarders’ Routine

We have two boarding houses at Mowden, Oak House - the boys’ boarding house and Elm House - the girls’. Both of the Boarding Houses are in the Main School Building and are separated by the Boarding House Sitting Room. The dorms in each house are named after geographical places in Northumberland. Children are grouped together in the dorms by age however in the younger year groups they are often combined. Boarding House Staff The pupils are cared for by the team of staff who work in the Boarding House alongside Senior Staff or Duty Staff who help in the House in the evening. Our Head of Boarding, Miss Leonie Serbrock; Assistant House Parent, Miss Sinead Hunter and Mr Max Wainwright, Boarding School Assistant along with Mateys; Phyllis and Lorraine are there to help the children with their day to day routine. They are supported by a team of Gap students and resident staff. Together, they help to get the children ready for school and put them to bed in the evenings. The staff will help your child settle into boarding life and will keep in communication with you, particularly in the beginning of their boarding life. The staff are there to talk to, play games with and facilitate activities both in the evenings and at the weekends.

Meet our boarders Medical Care Our School Nurse, Laura Danby is responsible for the medical matters of every child in the school. She works full-time and is supported by the Boarding House staff.

Meet the boarding team Miss Serbrock, Head of boarding

I am Miss Serbrock, the Head of Boarding. I started working at Mowden in 2016 having come from a background of working with children and young people for over 15 years. I strive to ensure that each boarder in our house feels genuinely cared for, safe, and secure. I feel we have a relaxed, family environment within the boarding house where Mowden children can feel at home. I love living and working here because it is so much fun. We're always busy enjoying ourselves, laughing and smiling with each other. I like to see our children developing in many ways. For me, their imaginative play and creativity are really special wonders. I enjoy singing loudly, hot holidays, and have a weakness for all things that taste yummy, including the amazing Mowden doughnuts!

Miss Hunter, Assistant house parent

I am Miss Hunter, I have worked at Mowden Hall for 16 years. I started my Mowden career in the kitchen as a Kitchen Assistant. I moved into the boarding side of the school in January 2021 as a Boarding Assistant and was just recently promoted to Assistant House parent. I endeavour to make sure each and every boarder feels safe, cared for, and listened to. I have lived in the boarding house since 2021 and genuinely love it, it is so much fun. I wake up daily to new challenges which often lead to very rewarding results and there is great pride in watching our children at Mowden blossom into young, independent teenagers. I have a passion for working my two Labradors and also spending quality time with my family making memories.

Mrs Danby, Nurse I am very proud to be the School Nurse here at Mowden Hall. I support the health and well-being of our pupils with care tailored to their individual needs. I provide all medical care, advice and first aid for pupils and staff. I have a pomeranian dog and she spends time with me in school enjoying cuddles from the children. Outside of school, my family keeps me very busy!

High speed rail services connect London King’s Cross to Newcastle train station in 3 hours.
