Coach Moberg’s 2019 Season Review 2019 Mustang Football Rent’s Due
Every season is special in its own way, yet 2019 was a year that will be remembered for years to come. This group lived up to our mantra of being “uncommon men” in many different ways. As coaches, we can not ask more of our young men than to give their hearts to the program and that is exactly what happened this past season. We stand on big shoulders when it comes to the success of Mustang Football. It is an honor to be a part of it. Each day that we step on to the field at Mustang Stadium we are reminded by the legendary seasons with the Banners of the past Championship teams! Our culture of striving to become uncommon men who embrace the process of fulfilling our potential through our work in the off-season is the key. Our guys showed their commitment in the weight room day in and day out. Anyone can have a desire to be great but very few keep their eyes on the vision and do the work that it takes to be great. Our 2019 group paid the price throughout the off season trusting that it would lead to success on the field. Iron sharpens Iron and our guys sharpened on another all season. We entered the season with 25 guys in the 225 Clean Club. A new club was created in with the 250 LB Clean Club and 12 guys made it into this club which is the most in the history of Mustang Football!! The 800 LB Club is a goal that many of our young guys hope to one day join and we had 16 Members in the 800 LB Club this past season which ranks 3rd All Time. The weight room will always be the foundation of our on field success and the investment in this room will be a direct correlation of our success. Leadership is critical to having a successful season. Our leaders were unbelievable in 2019. These guys were special players on the field but better men off of it. One of our values is Accountability and our team was led by a group of men who held one another accountable on and off the field. This groups character was shown throughout the season. We finished the regular season 6-2 and the two losses were each by 1 point. Both games were heartbreakers but life is all about how you respond and our guys bounced back with dominating wins over Cretin (at their homecoming) and Roseville. This is a credit to the leadership of our guys and their resilience in the face of adversity. After each loss, they guys chose to grow from it and allow the adversity to make us better. Earning a birth at the State Tournament was a culmination of doing the little things right. Throughout the season we talked about using our microscope and telescope. The telescope had its sight set on November and playing our best football in the playoffs. The microscope was focusing on the little things each day and giving your gifts to your teammates every single day! Our guys bought in and it led to our team playing our best ball in the playoffs. Our wins against Burnsville and Buffalo to punch out ticket to the Tourney were dominating performances and as coaches we were filled with joy for our guys. As shared above, our guys see the banners of all of our Championship teams hanging each day and starting next fall there will forever be a 2019 banner hanging at Mustang Stadium! Seniors, thank you for giving your heart and the legacy you have left on our program. You are a special group of men who are going to do great things. Our world needs men like you. As great as hanging a banner is, what will make us coaches most proud is you being great husbands, fathers and men in your community. Life goes fast and my challenge for you is to treat each day as a gift and love with all your heart. Know that you are always loved and always a Mustang!! Love you guys! Coach Moberg
