Adult Education
Mounds View Public Schools Adult Education offers programs for adults to improve their skills so they can advance in their jobs, prepare for further education or improve their daily lives. Learn English, earn your high school diploma or GED, prepare for college or earn certifications for your next job. Our licensed instructional staff will help you achieve your goal!
Courses are free, but registration is required. All courses are offered at Silver View Education Center in Mounds View.
ACADEMIC COURSES
English As A Second Language (ESL)
English as a Second Language class (ESL) is a program for adults seeking to improve their English language communication skills. In a supportive classroom environment, students will develop listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. Beginning, intermediate and advanced classes are offered. Registration required. Classes run September through early June.
Our teachers will assist you in preparing for the four GED tests: reading/language arts, math, social studies and science. After earning their GED, students attend our graduation ceremony.

High School Diploma For Adults
Adults who need fewer than 10 credits to graduate may participate in diploma classes and receive a high school diploma from Mounds View Public Schools. Classes are with licensed and experienced teachers, so you can learn and achieve at your own pace. Learn essential knowledge and skills needed to confidently design, configure, manage and troubleshoot any wired and wireless devices. CompTIA Network+ is compliant with ISO 17025 US Department of Defense Directive 8570.01-M and US Department of Defense Directive 8140 requirement.
Prepare for the CompTIA Server+ certification exam by learning to install, manage and troubleshoot physical and virtual servers. CAREER PATHWAYS COURSES
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
This no-cost class prepares you to become a Certified Nursing Assistant. Training includes 80 hours of classroom instruction and 16 hours of clinical skills training. After completion of the training and clinical practice, students will be eligible to take the State Competency Evaluation. After passing this exam, students will be placed on the Minnesota Department of Health’s Nurse Aide Registry. Job search support is embedded into the class.

Commercial Drivers License (CDL)
If you’re looking for a rewarding career that fits your schedule, consider our CDL classes. This course prepares you to pass the Commercial Driver’s License exam for Class B vehicles. It leads directly to training and employment with American Student Bus Company. Classes build the skills and confidence you need to get behind the wheel.

This class is designed for individuals preparing to become paraprofessionals. The course also provides job search support and guidance for entering the education workforce. Classes are ONLINE and will take place January through May.
Highly-Qualified Certificate Test Prep
This self-paced, online program helps future paraprofessionals prepare for the ParaEducator Online Exam—required to work in academic roles with students. Participants will review essential skills in reading, writing and math through guided lessons and practice materials. Flexible and supportive, this course is ideal for those ready to take the next step toward a paraprofessional career. This independent study program starts September 2.

Canceled classes will not be refunded due to weather or staff professional development days. There are no refunds for family vacations or days missed due to family illness or extended leave of absence.
Refunds
Class refunds will be issued at 100% if registration is canceled before August 1. 85% will be refunded if canceled before September 1. 50% will be refunded if canceled September 1 - January 15. Cancellations after January 15 will be pro-rated. A $10 processing fee will be charged per refund.

Preschool And Pre-Kindergarten
Preschool and pre-kindergarten programs provide a safe learning environment for students ages three to five years old. Your child will experience a variety of fun learning activities in science, art, dramatic play, music, language, literacy, large and small muscle development and more. Relationships and joyful learning are at the heart of all our work to help children develop critical-thinking skills, build confidence, grow socio-emotionally and to prepare for kindergarten entrance. Age 3
Our half-day, hands-on learning experience gives children the opportunity to begin practicing their social skills with peers, learn communication, literacy, math, fine and gross motor skills, art and dramatic play in a routine rich environment. Students must turn 3 years old on or before Sept 1.
Pre-Kindergarten - Registration open now!
Age 4
Our half- and full-day options allow children to gain the skills they need to prepare for kindergarten through play. Children work on developing their school-readiness skills through interactions with peers, exploration, creativity and experimentation. Students must turn 4 years old on or before Sept 1.

Limited tuition assistance is available through the online registration process for families who qualify. When your child’s registration is accepted, you will be charged a non-refundable registration fee and the first month’s tuition. Register online at mvpschools.org/earlychildhood.
EARLY CHILDHOOD SCREENING
Early Childhood Screening is a FREE, quick and simple check of how a child is growing and developing. The recommended age for screening is three and a half years old. This screening is required for kindergarten entry in all Minnesota public schools. Parent Advisory Committee
Do you have ideas and skills to help our program or like to help and volunteer? The Early Childhood Parent Advisory Committe (PAC) is looking for members. We value your input!
Parents participating in ECFE and Preschool/Prekindergarten programs meet with staff during the school year to talk about classes, experiences and explore fun ideas for family events. If interested in joining the committee, please email mvecpac@gmail.com.

Mounds View Adult Education offers programs for adults to improve their skills so they can move ahead in their jobs,
prepare for further education or improve their daily lives. Learn English, earn your high school diploma or GED and prepare for college or earn certifications for your next job.

• Participants should register for activities that serve the grade/age they will be in the fall of 2025.
• Registrations are accepted on a first-come/first-serve basis until a class is full.
• All course fees must be paid in full at the time of registration.

Refunds, Changes, Deadlines & Cancellations
• Cancellations must be made at least seven days prior to the start of the activity to receive a refund. A processing fee of 11% will be applied to all cancellations, with a minimum fee of $5 (whichever is greater).
• There will be no cost adjustments for late registration or classes missed by a participant.
• Community education reserves the right to cancel a class. When cancellations occur, participants will be notified and a full refund will be issued.
• All Community Education activities are subject to changes and cancellations.
• Registration deadlines for most activities are one week prior to the start date.
• Classes fill quickly and instructors may need to order supplies.
• Classes may be canceled due to low enrollment, so please register early.
Youth who are residing within the Mounds View Public Schools District boundaries and currently qualify for educational benefits are eligible for reduced fees for qualifying Youth Enrichment & Activities programs. Financial support is provided by the Ralph Reeder Food Shelf, the District Community Education Scholarship fund and other community donors. Qualifying enrichment and activities will have an Educational Benefits fee (EB fee) listed. If additional support is needed beyond the Educational Benefits rate, please call us at 651-621-6020.
Accommodation Needs
Individuals with accommodation needs are welcome in any activity and may bring a helper at no extra charge if needed. Please indicate needs when registering.

Meals On Wheels
Meals on Wheels has been an integral part of Mounds View Public Schools’ mission and commitment to serving adults in our community for 50 years! It is more than just a meal; Meals on Wheels is a critical wellness visit by volunteers, a nutritious hot or frozen meal for homebound older and disabled adults, and a means of connecting older adults to other community services. Meals on Wheels is for older adults or certified disabled adults in need of help with meals, and is an ideal service to assist caregivers who may be hard-pressed finding time for meal preparation along with all their other responsibilities. Meals are affordably priced, and a sliding fee scale is available for those who qualify. You can also pay for Meals on Wheels with a credit or debit card or with your SNAP benefits. Seniors (60+) may also qualify for meals at low or no cost with Title III funds provided by the Older Americans Act. Contact us to learn more!

Donate Now! During the COVID-19 pandemic, Meals on Wheels delivered nutritious meals to older adults and families in our community. Many of these people still rely on our services. We have partnered with the Ralph Reeder Food Shelf to distribute additional food and personal supplies to our clients as well.
