A stereotypical one from me: eat healthier. I notice a huge difference in my energy levels when I don’t eat my fruit and veg, so I’m going to make a conscious effort to stop eating such beige foods.
Letting go of stress
To stop being so hard on myself and allow myself the space to be human (and maybe a little selfish). To trust that I’m doing the best I can, even when it doesn’t feel like enough.

As I step into the New Year, I’m choosing to let go of pressure and unnecessary stress by choosing calm instead of chaos, welcome life exactly as it is, enjoy each day and not only the weekends; I will create more quality moments with my family and travel as much as possible, prioritising my health.
Dialling in my memory
Running is a great metaphor for life, so my resolution is to do more running. But it goes a little deeper. It is about patient pacing. Showing up fully and running for the view, not just the medal. This won’t just be metaphorically, I will also be training for the 2026 Abu Dhabi Marathon.

Alicia Keys kicked things off on New Years Eve and now it’s up to Diana Ross and Seal to take over on January 9, followed by Ludovico Einaudi, Lewis Capaldi, John Mayer, Max Richter and Ricky Martin. is for Abu Dhabi Festival The Abu Dhabi Festival returns for its 23rd edition from April 12, 2026, bringing world-class culture right to the heart of the capital. With more than 1000 artists from 19 countries, it is one of those rare events where parents and kids can be moved by the same performance. From Jon Batiste opening the festival at Emirates Palace to HAUSER filling Etihad Arena with soaring cello, it is a reminder that culture can be thrilling, not stuffy. is for bike rides on the Corniche This is Abu Dhabi parenting at its simplest and best. Flat paths, sea views and plenty of places to stop when little legs get tired. is for CATS the musical Andrew Lloyd Webber’s beloved musical arrives in Abu Dhabi in May, and it is tailor-made for families dipping their toes into theatre. Families can book a behind-the-scenes tour to peek into the world of motorsport, then head to Yas Kartzone to race each other on a dedicated kart track that even kids can try. On certain evenings, the circuit opens for walking, running or cycling together on the track surface, which feels like claiming a tiny piece of racing history for your own. Add in high-speed driving experiences, cool views along the marina and plenty of spots to grab a bite or watch the sunset, and it becomes a full day of fun that doesn’t need a race weekend to feel special.
Circuit X
This one is for older kids and teens who crave adrenaline. Climbing, ziplining and obstacle courses give them independence and confidence. It is loud, energetic and unapologetically fun. Nearby food outlets, including I Love Burger, Masha House and Green for Life, mean no one has to leave early due to hunger-related meltdowns.
Located within the Children’s Garden and operated by Al Ain Zoo, this much-loved attraction allows little ones (and adults) to get up close with goats, ponies, rabbits, tortoises, emu birds and camels. Walking into The Lean, the view of Abu Dhabi stretches out in front of you, but up here it feels far away and slightly unreal. From noon, brunch sets the tone, relaxed and unhurried, with guests easing into loungers and drinks arriving cold. As the afternoon drifts on, the rooftop fills out rather than fills up. People stay. Conversations stretch. By early evening, it feels settled, like everyone has quietly agreed there’s nowhere else they need to be.

As such, the farm shop shelves are stocked with seasonal produce grown on the land, as well as organic oil and honey from the UAE. The Food and Drinks
Sand & Koal sits on the edge of Emirates Palace square, with Qasr Al Watan in front of you and the Arabian Gulf stretching out alongside it. It is the kind of view that makes you pause before you sit down. Sitting in a beachside gazebo here feels quietly extravagant. Come early, order a drink and let the sunset do its thing before the fire and wood smoke signal that dinner is about to begin.
The menu leans into woodfire cooking and sharing plates, with bold flavours. Start with the roasted heirloom tomatoes with burrata — bright and fresh with a savoury nori sourdough crumb. The local grilled squid is tender and generous with its lemon caper butter. The cured hammour carpaccio is delicate, lifted with citrus and aji verde, while the coppa and wagyu beef tartare is rich and perfectly balanced with capers, mustard and confit potato. If you are feeling indulgent, the whole king crab leg is the showstopper, drenched in crustacean hollandaise and beurre noisette. Save space for dessert. The karak tea ice-cream is something special. Spiced, comforting and unmistakably local, it tastes like Abu Dhabi on a plate. We would argue it is the taste of the UAE. The dark chocolate smoked with oud is dramatic and intense, while the exotic vacherin is lighter and playful, all fruit and meringue.
The Vibe Tables sit directly on the sand, the lighting is warm and the mood shifts easily from social to romantic as the night rolls on. It works for big brunch groups, but this is really the ideal date night restaurant. The entertainment seals it. Fire performers on the beach are hypnotic, and the music sits at that sweet spot where you can still talk but your foot taps along anyway. 34 JANUARY 2026 | WHATSON.AE
The Service Effortless and friendly. Staff know the menu well and are happy to guide you through it. Still, the real scene-stealer is the entertainment. The fire dancers are hard to ignore, and no one seems to mind the distraction.

At Shangri-La, Bord Eau by Nicolas Isnard feels like walking into a French culinary daydream, it’s an ode to precision and imagination. Recently, the restaurant launched its own take on the business lunch, called The Table at Noon. It is a polished midday offering that lets you choose between two or three courses, each rooted in classic French technique but light enough to keep the afternoon intact.
The menu reads like a love letter to restraint and balance. Nicolas Isnard’s Signature Modern Onion Soup is deeply comforting, rich without tipping into excess. The Cucumber and Takuan salad is fresh and clever, crunchy and quietly confident. Braised Beef Chuck arrives tender and soulful, while the Catch of the Day with fennel and green apple is bright, clean and perfectly judged. Dessert keeps things delicate. The Green Tea Espuma with tamarind sorbet is light and refreshing. The Caramelised Apple Compote leans into classic flavours, handled with finesse. Everything looks beautiful, but more importantly, everything tastes considered. Nothing shouts. Nothing feels unnecessary.

SAADIYAT NIGHTS Where music meets the moon
T
here’s a stretch of sand along Abu Dhabi’s Saadiyat Island that feels different when night falls. The air cools, and you can see the Cultural District glowing ahead. Louvre Abu Dhabi on one side, the the Zayed National Museum on the other, and somewhere between them the taste of jasmine in the breeze and the soft thrum of soundchecks. By day you have art and quiet beaches and people walking around with coffees. By night you have something different. You have expectation. That expectation has a name. Saadiyat Nights. It’s where Abu Dhabi’s winter rhythm begins to pulse, and it has become the

place to be in winter. A purpose-built amphitheatre set under stars, with gourmet street-food stalls and the gentle swell of the sea nearby. Bring a drink, grab dinner from the food stalls, and settle in with friends under a blanket of stars. That’s when the music shakes your shoulders gently and pulls you into the night. This season, it is stacked with artists who define different corners of pop, rock, classical and soul. Alicia Keys started the season on New Year’s Eve with that kind of energy that feels like a reset button pressed under firework light. It was soulful, bold, a little bit poetic and that was just the start.

Diana Ross & Seal Imagine hearing two unmistakable voices in the same night. Diana Ross is the woman who led The Supremes from Detroit into legend, singing songs that helped define Motown’s sound in the 1960s and beyond, with classics like Ain’t No Mountain High Enough and Reach Out and Touch (Somebody’s Hand) shaping generations. Her solo years gave us dance floor staples like I’m Coming Out and Upside Down, songs that feel joyous even when you’re just thinking about them. On the same night, Seal will be performing. Lewis Capaldi is that rare songwriter who sounds like a mate who tells it like it really is. Born in Scotland and known for his self deprecating humour as much as his voice, he broke through with Someone You Loved, a ballad that topped charts in the UK and the US and became a defining heartbreak song for its generation. Along the way he’s hit with other emotional numbers like Before You Go and Hold Me While You Wait, tracks that make you feel things you thought you’d left behind. There’s sweetness in his honesty, and seeing him live is a mix of laughter, raw vocals and moments where the crowd feels like one voice in a hug under the stars.

Ludovico Einaudi If a concert could feel like a deep, slow breath, this would be it. Italian pianist and composer Ludovico Einaudi has a way of making minimal piano feel enormous. He trained in Milan and went from classical roots to something that slips easily into film and quiet moments on playlists around the world. Pieces like Nuvole Bianche and I Giorni don’t rush you, they invite you to feel what’s already there beneath your skin. Einaudi’s scores have been part of movies like The Intouchables and Nomadland, which says something about the quiet emotional pull his music has. You won’t be head banging here, but you will feel like you’ve traveled someplace within yourself by night’s end.

John Mayer The American guitar storyteller who knows how to make six strings feel like conversation. John Mayer is the kind of musician you imagine trading guitar licks with on a long road trip. An American singer songwriter with seven Grammy Awards and millions of records sold, Mayer’s music slides from tender acoustic numbers to blues tinged rock with the ease of someone who grew up loving all of it. Tracks like Gravity, Your Body Is a Wonderland and Slow Dancing in a Burning Room are his signatures. These song show that he isn’t afraid of the soft moment or the big riff. Max Richter Max Richter is the composer who makes you feel scenes in your head you didn’t know were there. Born in Germany and raised in Britain, he bends classical and contemporary sound into something cinematic and emotional. His work spans albums and scores alike, drawing listeners into landscapes of sound that feel at once introspective and grand. Richter’s performances are less about familiar pop hooks and more about the shared moment, sitting under the sky, letting the waves of sound wash over you. At Saadiyat Nights he’ll turn the amphitheatre into his canvas, and all of us into his audience.

Ricky Martin When Latin pop exploded around the world in the late 1990s, Ricky Martin was right at the heart of it. The Puerto Rican singer brought Livin’ la Vida Loca onto pop charts everywhere, a song that feels like confetti in musical form with energy you can’t resist. Before that he was already known for hits like María and The Cup of Life, the latter becoming the official anthem of the 1998 FIFA World Cup and giving dance floors a bilingual soundtrack they didn’t know they needed. hen news popped up on our socials that WICKED the Musical was landing in Dubai, we were cackling with glee. After years of waiting, Dubai Opera, in partnership with Broadway Entertainment Group, made the wonderful news official: the performing arts centre is bringing the world’s most popular musical to the city. WICKED has captivated more than 65 million audience members across 16 different countries and over 130 cities. Here in Dubai, the spellbinding musical is set to enchant audiences from January 28 to February 15, 2026. If you’re Defying Gravity over the announcement, we’ve got more good news.
This production reveals the untold story of the witches of Oz as never before, featuring reimagined sets and over 350 bespoke costumes. A big magical highlight? efore sunrise on February 1, 2026, Dubai’s streets will belong to very keen runners. Car tyres give way to trainers and the city’s landmarks become an eye-dropping backdrop to the 25th edition of the Dubai Marathon. First staged in 1998, the race has grown into one of the region’s most established long-distance events and holds World Athletics Gold Label status. Known for being one of the fastest marathons in the world, runners gear up each year to shatter their PBs whilst getting a unique frontrow seat to the awe-inspiring Dubai architecture.
The route The 42.195km race begins near Madinat Jumeirah, before heading along Al Sufouh Road and onto Jumeirah Beach Road. The layout is famously flat, with wide roads, long straights and minimal turns – ideal conditions for both personal bests and elite-level performances. Stunning Dubai landmarks line the course. The Burj Al Arab is the standout, rising above the route and reappearing at several points along the way. Nearby, the wave-like Jumeirah Beach Hotel frames the coastline, with glimpses of the Arabian Gulf along the palm-lined roads. Runners pass close to the entrance of Palm Jumeirah, whilst further along, the scenery shifts as Downtown Dubai comes into view, anchored by the Burj Khalifa on the horizon.

The Spa Conrad Spa at Conrad Abu Dhabi Etihad Towers is one of those places that makes you forget you are still in the city. The moment you step inside, everything slows down, you instinctively drop your shoulders and leave your phone tucked away. There is calm here, not the forced kind, but the real kind that seeps into your body as soon as you arrive. You feel looked after without even having to say a word.
The Setting The Conrad Spa feels tucked away from the buzz of the city, like a secret, a quiet oasis where the light is soft and the sounds are muted. Polished marble and natural stone set the tone, but it is the little details that make it feel special. Fresh towels, subtle scent in the air, and the sense that you are the only person there create a rare feeling of privacy and indulgence. The Facility The spa is gorgeous and spacious. There are 13 treatment rooms, rain showers, generous changing areas, and the air smells faintly of essential oils that make you feel instantly lighter. Two couples suites offer privacy for shared treatments, while a modern hammam adds a touch of traditional indulgence. The treatment rooms themselves are roomy, letting you stretch out and feel completely comfortable. The design is sleek and polished but still welcoming. You leave feeling as if you have been cocooned in a world made just for you.
The Service From the moment you walk in, the staff are attentive and present without being intrusive. There is a natural flow to the service, from the greeting to the posttreatment tea, that makes the whole experience feel effortless. They notice the small things, like adjusting the room lighting
or checking the pressure during your massage, and do it with ease and warmth.
The Experience The spa leaves you lighter, calmer, and fully restored. The body scrub is energising, the massage is deeply soothing, and the facial refreshes. A recent report from Skyscanner revealed that travellers from the UAE are eager to explore more of the world’s less-trodden paths, with destinations such as Varna, Bilbao, Krabi, and Bengaluru on their list of rising stars for 2026. Paro – a valley town in western Bhutan where the iconic Tiger’s Nest Monastery is located – is among them, with searches for the destination up by 149%. Travellers are enticed by Paro’s tranquility and spiritual appeal, bolstered by crisp air, mountain views, and unique wildlife, plus a new twice-weekly Drukair flight between Paro and Dubai making it easier to access for GCC travellers.
This historically-rich city in the northwestern corner of Switzerland also happens to be in a unique tri-border location, found at the confluence of the Swiss, French, and German borders – making it an ideal jumping-off point for travellers who want to make the most of their time in Europe by incorporating day trips or extending their travels across more of the Schengen Area. Meanwhile, a SmartFlyer report shared that cultural currency is impacting travel trends for 2026, with buzzy, timely cultural events creating a major draw for global travel. The flagship Art Basel event, which takes place in Basel each June, and the Basler Fasnacht – the largest carnival in Switzerland, which takes place between February to March each year – adds to the location’s prominence. A mountain reset THE STAY
There is something grounding about driving next to a mountain. Not past it. Next to it. It makes you feel small in a good way. Driving into Jebel Hafit Desert Park, Pura Eco Retreats, the sky looks a little bluer and the rocky tan sand pressed up against the limestone mountain suggests this weekend getaway offers more than just an escape from the city.
THE SETTING Jebel Hafit Desert Park sits at the foot of Abu Dhabi’s highest peak and stretches across nine kilometres of protected land. It is about a two-hour drive from both Abu Dhabi and Dubai. This is a place steeped in history, recognised for its UNESCO significance and home to archaeological discoveries that go back thousands of years. The famous Jebel Hafit Tombs, dating back 5000 years, were excavated in 1959 under the direction of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

THE FOOD AND DRINK
Heritage tents start from Dhs900 per night for two adults and two children. Dome tents with a private plunge pool start from Dhs2,250 for two adults. Deluxe lodges start from Dhs1,800, while Premium lodges start at Dhs2,800.
The restaurant is styled like a traditional Emirati majlis, with low seating in warm earthy tones, cultural artworks and the mountain as your backdrop. The breakfast spread is generous and distinctly local. Expect dishes like balaleet, shakshuka or tomato egg scramble, chibab or khameera bread, Emirati foul, grilled halloumi, zaatar feta, roca salad and sweet date syrup. In the evening, there is the option of a BBQ under the stars.
THE ACTIVITIES The park offers guided hikes, walks to the restored ancient tombs, camel rides, bike rentals and even electric skateboards. Families will find enough to keep kids entertained, while adults can choose their level of adventure. Do not skip a visit to the Hafit Tombs.
