PHASES OF VENUS Ever since antiquity, astronomers have studied the 13 phases of the planet Venus, from its rise as the morning star, to its descent into darkness and invisibility, and its re-emergence in the evening sky. These phases occur over a 19-month cycle, marking both a physical and a spiritual passage. "Venus Dances with the Moon" represents phase 6, SURRENDER + DISCOVERY. In phase 6, Venus begins the slow descent from its highest point in the sky to the point of disappearance at the horizon. This is the longest phase, a 6-month journey that includes 6 meetings with the moon at different positions and orbits. “Venus dances with the Moon” imagines these meetings as different positions in a dance. This phase is associated with shedding old habits and reliances to seek new self-discovery. In Mayan culture, Moon ceremonies, which also mention Venus, mark young girls’ coming-of-age. Two Franklin McMahon Prints Tokyo, Hong Kong
Artist Print Franklin Mcmahon Limited Edition Lithograph. From a limitededition "Paintings of Asia & The Pacific" print set. They are framed and in perfect condition. This lithograph is vivid in color and portrays the harbor life of 1960's Hong Kong. Rolex sign is prominently showcased on one of the buildings. It measures 16 x 20. The watercolor portion measures 11 x 15. Franklin McMahon (1921-2012) was an artist and a journalist whose work took him around the world for more than 50 years. Franklin McMahon is best known for providing Life Magazine with courtroom illustrations from the Emmett Till trial. During his travels he often captured the essence of the city or country he was visiting through his artwork. His original pieces sell between $500 -$5000. each and are highly collectible pieces. In the 1960’s he was commissioned by Continental Bank to record his graphic impressions of Asia and The Pacific as the bank expanded its worldwide presence. The 7 pieces of artwork that he produced during that commission were released in a limited portfolio entitled: Paintings of Asia & The Pacific. A Limited Edition by Chicago Artist Franklin McMahon-prepared by Continental Illinois National Bank and Trust of Chicago. These are not original paintings but rather a part of that limited edition. Each is printed on high quality, heavy watercolor type paper and have been carefully stored to maintain their original color and condition.
