The Vodafone Gold Coast 600, part of the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship.
It’s a weekend of sun and fun in paradise when the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship returns to the Gold Coast from 20 to 22 October. Get your heart racing at the Vodafone Gold Coast 600 where drivers are set to do battle on the streets of Surfers Paradise in the final event in the PIRTEK Enduro Cup. There will be two massive nights of chart topping live music included in your same-day event ticket and the hottest DJs all day long at the exclusive 18+ trackside venue, Vodafone Club 600. The Friday night concert will feature a special performance by two Aussie favourites, Delta Goodrem, supported by Daryl Braithwaite. The Arrival Based on Shaun Tan’s award-winning picture book, “The Arrival”, Spare Parts Puppet Theatre brings to life a story of belonging, home and the kindness of strangers in a foreign land. Follow the story of Aki, an immigrant starting out in a strange country. Will he ever see his family again? Will he find a job, friends and a place to live? Fusing Tan’s surreal illustrations with haunting music, amazing puppetry and an absence of words, “The Arrival” poignantly captures the sense of isolation many immigrants feel. This enjoyable experience teaches children the significance of acceptance and what it means to find a sense of belonging.

Cross Currents: From Island to Mainland, Gold Coast Indigenous Camp Stradbroke Island 2017 Celebrating identity, culture and place, “cross currents: from island to mainland” follows the creative processes of the participants of the Gold Coast Indigenous Camp on Stradbroke Island. The exhibition celebrates the artists’ collaboration and sharing of stories and skills during their five-day stay on the island. Working with a wealth of materials, and mentored by acclaimed Aboriginal artist Judy Watson, the 11 participants created astounding pieces, reflecting the political ‘cross currents’ they shared and their responses to Stradbroke’s natural beauty. With trams running every 10 minutes from Gold Coast University to the southern end of Broadbeach, there’s never been a better time to hit the town.

JUST NORTH of the busy throng of Surfers Paradise, you’ll find Main Beach—a relaxed mix of cafés, restaurants, bars, resort shopping and a choice of calm or surf beaches. It’s also home to Marina Mirage and Mariners Cove Marina—the jumping-off points for all manner of water-based tours.
THINGS TO DO Main Beach beaches are a lot less crowded than Surfers Paradise’s iconic stretches of sand. For calm, protected beach swimming head for the inside beaches of The Spit—a permanent sand spit that separates the mainland and Southport Broadwater from the Pacific Ocean. On the other side of The Spit are lifesaver-patrolled surf beaches with flagged swimming areas—the Seaway Beach (patrolled November to April), Sea World Beach (patrolled on weekends and school holidays) and Sheraton Beach and Main Beach (both patrolled all year round). You can walk, run or ride along the Gold Coast Oceanway, a 37-kilometre network of coastal pathways stretching from the Gold Coast Seaway (The Spit) to the Point Danger Lighthouse (Coolangatta).
Enjoy a family day at Sea World— one of Main Beach’s top attractions. It’s the perfect day out with dolphin and seal shows as well as the chance to see sharks, stingrays, penguins and polar bears. The Storm Coaster and an acrobatic jet ski show will keep everyone happy! HOME TO SOME OF the Gold Coast’s most famous surfing spots, relaxed Coolangatta is lined with white sand beaches flanked by tall Norfolk pines. It was named after the schooner Coolangatta, wrecked there in 1846, and is the most southern suburb of City of Gold Coast sharing the border with New South Wales. For some of the Gold Coast’s best surfing conditions, head to Kirra Beach, Snapper Rocks or Rainbow Bay, but you might also want to try throwing in a line to catch snapper, bream or tailor. There’s also plenty of whale watching
opportunities from the heights of Point Danger. With all that sand activity you will work up an appetite. WELCOME TO TAMBORINE Mountain, home to Queensland’s oldest national park and the third oldest in the world. In less than an hour from the Gold Coast’s surf and sand you can be in the midst of one of the area’s hinterland gems. Tamborine Mountain, rising over 500 metres, is the first hill behind the Gold Coast, giving it the ‘Green behind the Gold’ status. This is the most northern section of the great volcanic caldera of Mt Warning and forms part of ‘Australia’s Green Cauldron’, an Australian National Landscape of Significance. Tamborine Mountain National Park consists of different sections. The Witches Falls Section, with its grassy picnic areas surrounded by a natural greenhouse, was the first section declared in 1908. Since then 13 sections have been added. There’s Joalah, Cedar Creek, The Knoll, Palm Grove
and MacDonald to name a few. For a wheel chair/pram friendly walk consider Esme Street Environmental Park—a community rainforest maintained area. The short Curtis Falls walk in the Joalah Section of the national park is easy and if you can only fit in one walk, choose this one. Just above the top of Curtis Falls, is the iconic Curtis Falls Corner shopping precinct. Consisting of a wonderful array of stores, no visit to Tamborine Mountain is complete without taking home a souvenir of your tour. Recently I had the opportunity to experience the Ultimate Driving Experience with Gold Coast BMW at the Norwell Motorplex, north of the Gold Coast. The Ultimate Driving Experience is a chance to review the true capabilities of the BMW range in a track environment. We were able to access the talent of the instructors teaching us the essential skills to enhance our own driving techniques with on-track exercises. The on-track activities include X drive track laps and skid pan. Coming from a five-star hotel background it was wonderful to see the similar elements to what we try to extend to you. I would like to thank Katherine Broadway, Dealer Principal at BMW Gold Coast for the opportunity to experience the World of BMW.
