Congratulations on your admission to Morehouse College, and welcome to Admitted Students Weekend. This invitation marks your entry into a legacy that has shaped leaders, scholars, and changemakers for nearly 160 years. This weekend is designed to help you envision your future here—one defined by purpose, discipline, and brotherhood. We hope you begin to see Morehouse not simply as a college, but as the right next step in your personal and intellectual evolution, and that you will choose to join a community committed to excellence and impact.
I understand the weight of this decision from multiple perspectives. As a Morehouse alumnus, the spouse of a Spelman graduate, and a parent of two Morehouse men, I can say with certainty that choosing this institution was transformative. The relationships I built, the mentorship I received, and the expectations placed upon me created a lifelong standard of excellence. That same environment—intentional, rigorous, and deeply supportive—awaits you.
Your admission places you among an exceptionally competitive and accomplished group. This year, Morehouse received over 7,000 applications from 44 states and 34 countries for just 650 seats in the Class of 2030. The average GPA of admitted students is 3.8. Of the approximately 400 students attending this weekend, half have already secured their place. These figures reflect both the caliber of your peers and the urgency with which top students are choosing Morehouse.
At Morehouse, you will be challenged academically, supported personally, and prepared globally. The College continues to invest in your experience, from a new 324-bed residence hall opening this fall to future developments including a state-of-the-art Campus Center and expanded housing in partnership with Spelman College. Academic innovation is also accelerating, with interdisciplinary work in artificial intelligence, supercomputing, business, STEM, and the creative arts. You are entering at a pivotal moment of growth and transformation.

During your time this weekend, engage fully. Speak with current students, connect with faculty, and build relationships with alumni. Ask thoughtful questions and picture yourself here, because we already do.
To the families: thank you for your trust. Your support is critical, and Morehouse is committed to partnering with you throughout your student’s journey.
We hope you leave this weekend ready to claim your place at Morehouse and join a brotherhood defined by leadership, service, and lasting impact.

Et Facta Est Lux, F. DuBois Bowman, Ph.D. ‘92 13th President of Morehouse College
