Indoor, outdoor car show coming to Currie Armoury in city For Moose Jaw Express

The ninth Highway to Heroes Car Show will kick off this year’s car show season on Friday, May 8 and Saturday May 9 at the D.V. Currie Armoury at 1215 Main St. N. in Moose Jaw. The show is sponsored by Friends of the Forces Fellowship in collaboration with the Saskatchewan Dragoons and Serco Canada. For the first time, the interior of the Armoury building will house special show cars to be on public display May 8 from 4 to 8 p.m. Advance registration is required for the indoor show with a registration form available on the Fellowship’s Facebook page. The indoor show will continue on May 9 but will be joined by an outdoor display of show cars throughout the exterior grounds of the Armory. The show cars will supplement the display of military vehicles already in place on the west side of the Armoury grounds. The May 9 show will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with gates open to exhibitors at 8 a.m. All exhibitors and spectators will enter through a gate on the east side of the Armoury. We are excited to bring something new and unique to the local car show scene, says Joyce Walter, chairperson

of the show. “The Dragoons approached us with the idea several months ago and the Fellowship committee immediately went into planning mode, visualizing on paper and through walk-a-bouts on the grounds to map out a workable design.” Previous Highway to Heroes car shows from 2014-2018 took place at 15 Wing and from 2022-2024 on the Moose Jaw Exhibition Grounds. Walter said close to 100 volunteers will assist with the show, from parking cars and security to gate attendants and 50-50 sales. Local cadet organizations will also be involved. The Fellowship has in the past provided financial support for cadet programs. The local business community is also involved through financial donations and in-kind support for all aspects

of the show. Admission for indoor cars is $25 for the car and driver. Any other passengers will pay $10. A weekend pass will be sold on Friday to cover admission for both days. Saturday’s show cars will pay $10 for car and driver. All other exhibitors and spectators will pay $10 for adults. A $5 admission will be charged for 5-12 years. Profits from the show will go towards assisting with projects for military families. Donations will also go to worthy local charities, cadets, veterans and military organizations. Over the course of eight previous shows, the Fellowship has donated more than $145,000, Walter said. The two-day show will also feature the Elks Club concession, an ice cream truck, soap box derby car display, along with recruitment displays from the Dragoons and other military organizations. Car dealerships are expected to display various models as well. Further information is available from Fellowship members or by calling 306-692-7357. That number is equipped with a message manager so leave a name and number for a return call.
