An evening of music, laughter, and community spirit will take centre stage April 11, as Heartland Hospice Moose Jaw prepares for its annual gala fundraiser at the Cosmo Centre. The event, titled Legends Dinner Theatre, will feature tribute-style sets inspired by iconic artists, alongside a full evening of dining and entertainment. The evening will begin with cocktails at 5 p.m., followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m. and the performance at 7:30 p.m. “(Our) gala fundraiser is on April 11, taking place at the Cosmo Senior Centre. It is a dinner theatre featuring Deborah Straker and friends,” said Michaela Sykora, chair of the organization’s public engagement and fundraising committee. The performance lineup will include music from well-known acts spanning multiple genres and generations. “There are going to be many legendary performers brought to life, with tributes to artists such as Willie Nelson, Patsy Cline, Sonny & Cher, and many more,” Sykora said. In addition to the live show, the evening will include a silent auction and raffle, offering attendees a chance to support hospice programming while competing for a range of prizes. “It features a Nordic spa near Swift Current, set on 120 acres of land, where you stay in a tiny house during your visit. It’ll be really fun, and whoever wins is going to be super excited,” she said. Proceeds from the fundraiser will support ongoing hospice initiatives in Moose Jaw, including enhancements to the hospice care spaces at Pioneer Lodge and the continued development of a dedicated sacred space for patients, families, and staff, aimed at

improving comfort, privacy, and overall quality of care. The three new hospice care rooms officially opened April 11, 2025, and the remaining sacred space — currently in development — is expected to open later this year. “So the funds will go towards the hospice. About 10 years ago, there were no hospice rooms, then we had one hospice room in Moose Jaw, and now we’re at three,” Sykora said. “We’re currently building a sacred space as well for staff and family members to enjoy while they’re at the hospice, and it brings a lot of peace to people. The funds will go toward the construction of that.” While the capital campaign has concluded, the organization continues to address remaining costs associated with the project. “Our capital campaign is actually closed now, but we do have an outstanding balance that we’re still trying to pay … we owe $380,000, so we’re just trying to chip away at that,” Sykora said. Community support remains a key part of those efforts, both through event attendance and potential last-minute sponsorships, with organizers noting the gala is designed to be both entertaining and meaningful while giving residents an opportunity to contribute to a cause that directly impacts local families. “We look forward to the community coming out and supporting us. All the proceeds go toward something that is well-needed in our community, and it will be a very fun night,” Sykora said. Tickets are available through SaskTix.evenue.net.
