PRAYER BULLETIN

Sept - Nov 2025

Sept - Nov 2025
Tucked in the middle of the long psalm, Psalm 119, is a brief prayer that has often captured my interest: “I am yours; save me” (Ps. 119:94). In its context it flows out of the eternal reliability of God’s word and confidence that in and through this word the future of the believer is secure. God keeps his promises and he can be trusted. Luther is said to have prayed this prayer at the Diet of Worms. Countless other Christians have as well.
Christian prayer recognises both the confidence and security we have as children of our heavenly Father and at the same time the dependence we have on him to make it to the end as faithful disciples of the Lord Jesus. We can pray both sides of this little prayer with the same boldness. We are his. And we are dependent all through our lives on his unfaltering goodness towards us.
This is our experience as a College as well as Christians learning and teaching within it. God has taken hold of our lives, as Paul would say he has “delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son” (Col. 1:13). Together we are a community of saved people rejoicing in God’s goodness to us. And, at the same time, we are those who cannot rely on our own resources to live and serve faithfully as God’s people. We wait for the return of Jesus who will deliver us from “the wrath to come” (1 Thess.1:10).
The Lord has provided for our College throughout its almost 170 year history. He has brought students to us, raised up faithful teachers, administrators and governors, rescued us when we were in danger of theological distraction as in the 1880s and 1920s, and given us the resources such as the library, student and Faculty accommodation, and more, through the generosity of his people. We have recently received a number of wonderfully encouraging notes of appreciation for the ministry of our graduates in many parts of the world.
We rejoice in our salvation and in the immense privilege of being part of his mission to see his Son honoured in all the world.
At the same time, we know that our present and future are entirely dependent upon his grace and sovereign will. Those who have heard what is happening around the world in the area of theological education will be aware of how fragile the entire enterprise feels at the moment. Yet our God is sovereign, his purposes will be accomplished, and his commitment to his saved people does not waver, even for a moment. So we can trust him even in the most uncertain times.
We at Moore College can echo the prayer of Psalm 119:94. We know that we belong to the Lord. He has made us his own at very great cost to himself, yet offered freely to us who trust in his Son. We know too that it is this Son, Jesus, who “is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him” (Heb. 7:25). Let us then pray together with confidence, “I am yours; save me”.
Your brother in Christ, Mark D. Thompson
