Chairman’s Report

Dear Members,

Welcome to the latest edition of our Journal.

It’s hard to believe we are already halfway through 2026. The year has certainly flown by, and what an incredible first six months it has been for Sporties. This edition highlights many of the achievements, milestones and community initiatives that have made us proud so far this year.

Most notably, we announced a landmark community commitment, pledging $250,000 over five years as the Foundation Partner of the newly established Liverpool Women’s Shelter. This significant investment reflects our ongoing commitment to supporting vulnerable women and families in our local community while helping strengthen efforts to combat domestic and family violence. It is an initiative we are immensely proud of, and I extend my sincere thanks to everyone who played a part in making it possible.

We were also honoured to receive a Highly Commended Award in the Fostering Grassroots Sport category for our Junior Legends Program. Since its inception, this initiative has returned more than $50,000 to local families, helping reduce financial barriers to participation and encouraging more kids to get involved in community sport.

Continuing our commitment to recognising those who make a difference, we launched the new Sporties Heart of the Community Award. Presented across each of our affiliated sporting codes, the award celebrates individuals who embody the values of Moorebank Sports Club through their contribution to the local community. These are the people who make a difference beyond the sporting field through their leadership, inclusivity, volunteerism and genuine commitment to bringing people together.

Alongside these community initiatives, Sporties has continued to be a place where people connect, celebrate and create lasting memories. ANZAC Day was once again one of the highlights of our calendar and is a day that means so much to our Club. Seeing Sporties at its very best, as we honour our military heritage, whilst simultaneously bringing the community together is something we look forward to every year. I would like to sincerely thank everyone who attended and made the day great but in particular let me take the chance to single out local resident and serving ADF member, Major Brent Doyle, who honoured us by raising the Australian flag during the commemorations.

The first half of the year also saw a packed calendar of events, including Mother’s Day celebrations, the NRL State of Origin series, themed trivia nights, our ever-popular School Holiday Program. Special mention of course, to our 32nd Birthday celebrations, where we had The Radiators ’Comin Home’ to Sporties for another unforgettable gig.

As we reflect on an outstanding start to the year, let me thank our members, staff, volunteers and community partners for their ongoing support. Together, we continue to make Sporties a club that truly makes a difference and a great place to go.

Sporties Makes Historic $250,000 Commitment to

Investing in Safety, Hope and Change

Moorebank Sports Club is proud to announce a landmark community commitment, pledging $250,000 over five years as the Foundation Partner of the newly established Liverpool Women’s Shelter. This significant long-term investment reflects the Club’s ongoing commitment to supporting vulnerable women and families in the local community and strengthening efforts to combat domestic and family violence.

This commitment goes beyond funding. It represents standing beside women and children in our community who have been impacted by domestic and family violence and taking meaningful action to support them.

Craig McNally, Vice Chairman of Moorebank Sports Club, said the Board’s decision was driven by both responsibility and heart.

"When we learned about the vision for Liverpool Women’s Shelter and the growing need in our own community, we knew this was an opportunity to be part of something truly important."

"This is an investment in safety for women escaping violence, security for children seeking stability, and hope for families rebuilding their future.”

As the Foundation Partner, Sporties’ five-year commitment will provide critical support services, safe accommodation and pathways toward healing, independence and brighter futures.

Sporties has long been committed to supporting local people through community partnerships, grassroots sport, charitable initiatives and wellbeing programs. This historic partnership embodies the Club’s vision to be the Cornerstone of the Community by using our platform and resources to create meaningful and lasting change.

Because every woman deserves safety. Every child deserves security. And every community has a role to play in ending violence.

Standing together

How Sporties turned awareness into action throughout May.

Throughout May, Moorebank Sports Club proudly supported Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month through a comprehensive month-long campaign aimed at raising awareness, encouraging meaningful conversations, and demonstrating support for those impacted by domestic and family violence.

A key highlight of the campaign was our participation in Purple Friday – Clubs Say No to Domestic Violence. Alongside more than 200 clubs across New South Wales, the Club turned purple in a visible show of support for victim-survivors and our commitment to creating safer communities. Staff dressed in purple throughout the day, while members and guests were encouraged to join in and show their support. A specially created Purple Cocktail was available, with $5 from every sale donated to the newly established Liverpool Women's Shelter.

During the month, the Club also officially launched its Domestic Violence Action Plan, further strengthening our commitment to empowering safe communities and taking a stand against violence. The plan outlines the Club's ongoing approach to awareness, support and advocacy, with a dedicated section of the Club website providing access to relevant resources and information for members, guests and the broader community.

As part of our community support initiatives, the Club conducted a collection drive for women's and children's personal hygiene and sanitary products. Donations received from members, guests and staff were distributed to our charity partners Georges River Life Care and Liverpool Women's Shelter, helping provide essential items to those experiencing hardship and crisis.

The Club also continued its partnership with Escabags, remaining a distribution point for emergency bags provided to women escaping domestic and family violence. These bags contain essential items and can offer immediate practical support during an incredibly challenging time.

Internally, the Club delivered a staff awareness campaign designed to increase understanding of domestic and family violence and the important role community organisations can play in supporting those affected. This initiative formed part of a broader commitment to staff education, with formal training scheduled for employees and leadership team members later in the year.

The campaign was an important opportunity for the Club to reinforce its values and demonstrate that domestic and family violence is an issue that affects the entire community. Through awareness, education, fundraising and practical support, Moorebank Sports Club was proud to stand alongside community organisations, industry partners and members in supporting positive change and helping ensure those impacted know they are not alone.

Junior Legends Program receives Highly Commended recognition for its impact on grassroots sport and local families.

On 11 June 2026, Moorebank Sports Club (Sporties) was proudly represented by Directors, leaders, staff, community representatives and sporting code volunteers at the 2026 Clubs & Community Awards, celebrating the positive impact clubs make across New South Wales.

We were honoured to be named finalists in three categories, recognising initiatives that make a meaningful difference within our community:

Fostering Grassroots Sport – Junior Legends Program

Social Inclusion – White Cane Mingle

Heart of the Community – Knitting Up a Storm

We are especially proud to share that our Junior Legends Program received a Highly Commended Award in the Fostering Grassroots Sport category.

Launched in 2025, Junior Legends was created to make community sport more accessible for local families by helping reduce registration costs and encouraging greater participation in grassroots sport. Since its introduction, the program has supported more than 1,000 young athletes and delivered over $50,000 back to local families and affiliated sporting codes.

This recognition reflects the collective efforts of our staff, volunteers, sporting code committees and the families who continue to champion junior sport throughout our community. Their commitment helps create opportunities for young people to build confidence, develop skills, stay active and form lifelong connections through sport.

The evening served as a powerful reminder of the important role clubs play in strengthening communities and creating positive social impact every day.

We extend our sincere thanks to everyone who has contributed to establishing, supporting and growing the Junior Legends Program. Together, we are helping more local children play, connect and thrive through sport, and we look forward to continuing to invest in the future of grassroots sport for years to come.

HEROES WITH ABILITY

Sporties Proudly Supports Heroes With Ability Easter Celebration

On the 1st of April, a group of our Sporties team members had the pleasure of volunteering at the Heroes With Ability Easter event, supporting the incredible work they do within the community.

Our team embraced the spirit of the day, joining in the celebrations with a special appearance from the Sporties Easter Bunny, spreading joy and laughter among attendees of all ages. We were also proud to share plenty of Easter chocolates, adding a little extra sweetness to what was already a vibrant and uplifting event.

It was truly heart-warming to see so many smiling faces and to witness first hand the positive impact that inclusive events like this have on the community. The atmosphere was filled with happiness, connection, and genuine support, making it a memorable experience for everyone involved.

A big congratulations to the entire Heroes With Ability team for once again delivering such a well-organised and meaningful event. Their dedication to creating inclusive opportunities and bringing people together is something we deeply admire.

At Sporties, we are passionate about giving back and staying connected to our local community. Supporting initiatives like this is incredibly important to us, and we’re proud to play a small part in helping make a real difference. We look forward to continuing our partnership and being involved in many more wonderful events in the future.

ThinkUKnow Community Session

Bringing members of our community together to learn how to better protect young people online

On Wednesday 29 April, Moorebank Sports Club proudly hosted a ThinkUKnow Parent & Carer Information Session, bringing members of our community together to learn how to better protect young people online.

ThinkUKnow Australia is an evidence-based education program delivered nationally to help prevent online child sexual exploitation. The program is a partnership between the Australian Federal Police, Microsoft Australia, Datacom and Commonwealth Bank of Australia, and is delivered in collaboration with policing partners across Australia, including the New South Wales Police Force and Neighbourhood Watch Australasia.

The session addressed important topics including self-generated child abuse material, online grooming, sexual extortion, and the importance of encouraging help-seeking behaviour. Importantly, the program is pro-technology, focusing on helping children and young people become safe and responsible users of technology in today’s digital environment.

We extend a sincere thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to such an engaging and meaningful evening. Your involvement and openness helped make the session truly worthwhile.

We also thank Board Member Ken Coleman for his vision in bringing this valuable program to our community and for attending the evening.

A special thank you goes to Brendan from Commonwealth Bank of Australia for delivering an insightful, informative, and engaging presentation.

The feedback from attendees has been overwhelmingly positive, with many walking away with practical tips, useful tools, and greater confidence to support their children in an ever-changing online world.

At Moorebank Sports Club, we are proud to support initiatives that strengthen, educate, and protect our community.

Return & Earn Superstars

We’re incredibly proud to share the impact our community has made through the Return and Earn facility at Moorebank Sports Club.

Over the past three months, an amazing 767,164 containers have been recycled through our site. A fantastic result that highlights the power of small actions coming together to make a big difference for our environment.

This effort has helped deliver some impressive sustainability outcomes:

• Enough energy saved to power 10.47 households for a year

• Enough water saved to fill 1.8 Olympic-sized swimming pools

• The equivalent of taking 55.75 cars off the road for a year

• And an incredible $76,716.40 raised back into the community

Month-by-month results:

• January 2026 – 276,893 containers

• February 2026 – 231,013 containers

• March 2026 – 259,258 containers

This is a major win for local sustainability, waste reduction, and community fundraising — and it wouldn’t be possible without you.

Every bottle, can, and container returned is helping to create a cleaner environment and stronger community.

Say hello to our new Loyalty Manager.

Sporties is excited to shine the spotlight on our new Loyalty Manager, Matthew Russell, who joined our Senior Leadership team in March 2026.

Matthew has been tasked with leading our Sporties Rewards Program, ensuring it continues to recognise and reward member loyalty, whilst delivering value to all Members, regardless of their tier.

Matthew brings to the Sporties team a background in member engagement and loyalty program operations, having worked across clubs, hotels and other hospitality establishments across Sydney.

"The first thing that struck me when I joined the team here at Sporties was how passionate and committed everyone is to drive positive customer experience and service delivery," - Matthew Russell, Loyalty Manager

At the heart of it all, Matthew shares the same Sporties commitment to providing the best experience for our Members and brings this approach to all aspects of his role.

When he's not at the Club, you'll likely find Matthew following his football teams, Liverpool FC and Sydney FC, out on the cricket pitch or chasing a football, or simply enjoying quality time with his family.

COMMUNITY

Biggest Morning Tea

On Thursday, 21st May, we proudly hosted a ‘Biggest Morning Tea’ in support of the Cancer Council, bringing our community together for a meaningful cause. The event was lovingly catered by our team, with a variety of our staff generously bringing in a wonderful spread of homemade treats, including muffins, cookies, brownies, slices and more. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us, donated, or contributed food to make the morning so special. Your generosity and support mean so much, as we stand together and recognise the impact cancer has on so many individuals and families in our community. A special shoutout to our bingo attendees and knitting ladies who made significant contributions of donations and joy. We are pleased to have exceeded our fundraising goal, raising $639 through online and in-person donations.

Reconnect Project

A ReConnect Project device collection launched at the end of May and ran throughout June, providing our members with a valuable opportunity to recycle their old devices for a good cause. This initiative was able to support local organisations and vulnerable community members, including those impacted by domestic violence (e.g. women’s shelters).

We were able to extend our support to the ReConnect project in their mission to support our local community by donating the proceeds of the June Community Raffle.

Beanies for Brain Cancer

We supported the Mark Hughes Foundation’s ‘Beanies for Brain Cancer’ initiative in June, with beanies available for purchase through soccer and footy canteens, and at our reception, encouraging both awareness and fundraising participation.

Staff and members were allowed to wear beanies inside the club on the last weekend of the month, raising money and showing support for the cause.

Sleeping Rough Event

On June 26, Sporties staff created a team together and joined in on the ‘Sleeping Rough’ fundraising event, hosted to support Georges River Life Care. These nine staff members camped out in Riverwood carpark for the night, ‘sleeping rough’ in the cold and on the cement, in parallel with the experience that people facing homelessness often suffer through. Our staff provided feedback that it was a tough yet meaningful event, and we look forward to participating again next year.

Staff blood donation / Blood donor day

World Blood Donor Day recently fell on the 14th of June, and accordingly, we booked appointments at our local blood donation centre and called upon staff volunteers to give blood and save lives. Eight staff and board members, across all roles in the club, came together to donate blood and plasma. The morning ran smoothly, and we encouraged others (if able) to donate blood and help save more lives.

This staff volunteerism and fundraising will continue throughout the coming months. Please keep an eye out around the club and on socials to see how you can donate and support the important causes that we highlight each month.

Recognising outstanding community contributors across our sporting clubs.

This season, we have launched the new Sporties ‘Heart of the Community’ sporting award. This award recognises an outstanding individual within each affiliated sporting code who exemplifies the mission, vision and values of Moorebank Sports Club through meaningful contribution to their local community. This award celebrates those who go beyond the field — demonstrating leadership, inclusivity, volunteerism, and a genuine commitment to strengthening community connections.

We are proud to announce the first winner of the award was Robyn Wadling, on behalf of Moorebank Cricket Club.

Robyn has made an outstanding and lasting contribution to Moorebank Cricket Club through decades of dedicated service, commitment and support. Since her son joined the club in the 1999/2000 season, Robyn has remained a constant and valued presence, generously giving her time across a wide range of volunteer roles. Even after moving away from the local area, she has continued to support the club, particularly through her ongoing work to collate and maintain accurate weekly team data. Her loyalty, reliability and willingness to serve have made her an invaluable part of the club community.

Moorebank Sports Club is dedicated to enriching the lives of young people in our community, both on the sporting field and academically.

Former President Bob Fleeton, who dedicated over 30 years to our Club, shared this vision. So, to honour his legacy we have launched a tertiary scholarship in his name to ease the financial pressure on university students in our local area.

The Bob Fleeton Scholarship is open to those studying – or hoping to study full-time at university, in any field for up to $5,000 per year (for a maximum of five years).

Candidates, or parents of candidates, must be members of Sporties for over five years, and must live within a 5km radius of the Club.
