With that in mind, we’re sure this school break is particularly welcomed by all, especially as this colourful season still offers up lots of opportunities to carve out some pumpkin fun, head to happy-haunting destinations and gaze with ‘oohs and aahs’ at some spectacular firework displays! So, before the winter chill sets in, take time to recharge your batteries and make the most of the sunny, milder days we have left by heading out of the house. Protect Your Child From Flu This Winter Flu can be a very unpleasant illness in children and can include fever, chills and aching muscles and some may need hospital treatment. Complications of flu include ear infections, acute bronchitis and pneumonia. The best way to protect your child is by having them vaccinated.

For most children, the vaccine is given as a nasal spray. It is safe, effective and painless. This year, the flu vaccine will be offered to all children in primary and secondary school. Strains of flu can vary from year to year, so it is important that they are protected for this coming season. The nasal spray vaccine contains a highly processed form of porcine gelatine. If this is not acceptable, speak to your child’s school nurse or local immunisation team about the alternative offer. GP practices provide the flu vaccination to children of 2 and 3 years of age. They can also provide the flu vaccination to children with certain long-term conditions such as diabetes and asthma requiring a regular preventer inhaler.

Chester lights up the skies in spectacular style The Lord Mayor’s Fireworks Extravaganza is making a return to Chester Racecourse on Saturday 6th November.
