Then there is the use of Artificial Intelligence in regards to court filings, a relatively new phenomena in the judicial system, that costs court officials massive amounts of time and money in reviewing documentation that is essentiallyflawed,bloated, andcontainsmistakeseven to the point of noting case law that does not exist not Both Judges, after seeing numerousexamplesofA.I. influenced documentation took action to curb the practice before it gets out ofhand. Almosttwoyearsago, Judges Santini and Bays, looked at the court system in Montgomery County andsawashatteredsystem of courts here and there, located all over downtown Conroe, and at the same time, lacking space for additional courts for a county our size. And it wasn’t just the courts, but other entities, such as the tax office and county clerksofficesjusttonamea few, that needed updating with new offices for safer ways to operate when the movement of funds or prisoners is involved. It was then that Santini and Bays formed a small committee of colleagues puttingtogetheraconvincing presentation hitting influential civic groups all over the county with the argument that action neededtobetaken,andthe longer it takes to act, the moreexpensiveitwouldbe in the future. And it was just recently that the Montgomery County Commissioners Court votedtobegintheplanning phaseonaCriminalJustice Center, and this month formally approved new courts for the county The building process should take approximately one year in regards to orchestrating the blueprints for a new building, with an additional 3-4 years for project completion, but at least the process is at a beginning. This week’s veteran of the week is David Beard. David entered the United States Navy in July 1967 and served until June 1970. David’sfatherwas a Navy man to include a championship boxer who got to fight in Madison Square Garden! His brother served as a radioman on the cruisier USS Boston. However it was his mother who was his biggest influencer David was always gifted in mechanical things, but hisbrotherandhismother told him not to get involved in engine type workasitwasdowndeep inside the ship. Fortunately for him, he also scored very well in many otherareas. Hebeganhis journeyattheGreatLakes trainingfacility-coldwas the order of the day His first “away” orders were to the USS Haynesworth which sailed out of Galveston Texas all over the Caribbean and the Gulf. He completed that tour and was sent to San Diego to join the USS Lawrence where he spent the rest of his time in the Navy Hestartedhistime thereasateammemberof the5”guncrew Surprisingly he never suffered

any hearing loss, even withoutprotection,during those years. He then was assigned to the CIC - the combat information center, involved in radar tracking. It was there it was discovered that he could type, so he became involvedintheaccounting andstoreskeeperarea. As the “stores” guy, David did all of the ordering of food on board the Lawrence. While not up the level of quality of submarines, the food on board the Lawrence was excellent. They served 4 meals a day including MIDRATS- midnight rations at night. He was alsoselectedasoneofthe 2 “designated swimmers” onboard. Theirresponsibility was to go into the water and rescue any downed pilots using the whaleboatonboard. His favoriteportsofcallwere two island ports - Palma and Malta Beautiful locations, friendly people and great food. While in the Med, the USS Lawrence was always shadowed by a Russian ship Periodically, a Russian Badger bomber would fly by, with a coupleofUSNF4sflying as escorts.
