Texas MEDC Meeting Sparks Honoring our Veterans Weekly Concern over the Future at the New Gas Prices Montgomery of the Community Center Cemetery

Average gasoline prices in Texas have fallen 0.8 cents per gallon in the last week, a v e r a g i n g $ 2 . 4 1 / g t o d a y, according to GasBuddy's survey of 13,114 stations in Texas. Prices in Texas are 18.2 cents per gallon lower than a month ago and stand 8.8 cents per gallon lower than a year ago. The national average price of diesel has decreased 5.3 cents compared to a week ago and stands at $3.618 per gallon. According to GasBuddy price reports, the cheapest station in Texas was priced at $1.92/g yesterday while the most expensive was $4.55/g, a difference of $2.63/g. The lowest price in the state yesterday was $1.92/g while the highest was $4.55/g, a difference of $2.63/g. The national average price of gasoline has fallen 4.5 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $2.85/g today. The national average is down 22.0 cents per gallon from a month ago and stands 12.6 cents per gallon lower than a year ago, according to GasBuddy data compiled from more than 11 million weekly price reports covering over 150,000 gas stations across the country. Austin- $2.59/g, up 19.5 cents per gallon from last week's $2.40/g. “For the third straight week, the national average price of gasoline has fallen, once again setting a new multi-year low,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. “Just ahead of Christmas, the national average stands at its lowest level since March 12, 2021, delivering weekly savings of nearly $400 million compared to this time last year. Gas prices are now lower in a majority of states, and the good news is that the downward trend may continue into the closing innings of 2025, with further declines likely across much of the country. That’s being driven by refineries wrapping up maintenance and boosting output to near summer highs, increasing fuel supply, while additional oil production from OPEC has pressured crude prices lower as well.” SOURCE GasBuddy

by Ruben Borjas, Jr The Montgomery City Council held their regular council meeting December 9th which brought concerns over one consent agenda item concerning the Historic Montgomery Community Center. A Montgomery Economic Development Corporation Special Meeting from their November 18th gathering had some citizens on edge believing that the MEDC had voted to condemn the Montgomery Community Center, thinking that the building was ready for wrecking ball. The November meeting involved the MEDC, Montgomery City Administrator Brent Walker; Ward, Getz & Associates LLC, or WGAConsulting Engineers; and Buckson

Landscape Architects, a trusted landscape subcontractor firm that WGA uses for its projects. At the heart of the discussion is the Montgomery ‘Downtown Improvement Project,’ which is being proposed by the MEDC to truly bring Historic Montgomery into the 21st Century, and foster better water and sewer concerns on McCown Street to the downtown businesses and Community Center grounds, which centers around the 1948 building with a Memorial for World War II Veterans in front. Planners began to consider what is best for the council to consider as more and more new residential developments come online in Montgomery proper. The issue for Historic Montgomery is the fate of a

historic building that has played its role in the city’s growth for the past 77 years, and with the the town’s limited footprint for expansion of the historic district, space is a grave concern as to whether the building, with its small square footage, should remain in place. Or should

M o n t g o m e r y McCoy, is a legend in the C o u n t y ’ s o w n M a r y radio world. When she first

signed on at KMCO in Conroe, Queen Elizabeth II, was still a CrownPrincess 74 years ago. M a r y, n o w t h e r a d i o personality with the longest career in The World, still keeps her schedule at KStar Radio/KVST 99.7 FM. McCoy’s history with Elvis Presley, most thought happened at Conroe High School, but their first meeting was actually in Shreveport, Louisiana, at the headquarters of the Louisiana Hayride, on the steps outside the venue where he sang. Elvis actually approached her and introduced himself, even though she knew who h e w a s a l r e a d y. T h e interesting thing is that Elvis always had girls intow, and she never wanted to interfere with girls around him. It was McCoy’s daughter Kim, who started assembling the accolades and mementos of Elvis in a special room at her Conroe residence, and MCN was See McCoy , page 4

The Freedom Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution presented our annual Wreaths Across America ceremony to honor our veterans at the New Montgomery cemetery. We had cool temperatures and a great turn-out for this event. We would like to thank our sponsors and our volunteers that contributed to making this a huge success. The mission is of Wreaths Across America is to REMEMBER the fallen, HONOR those that serve and their families, and TEACH the next generation the value of freedom! Quoting our 40th US President, Ronald Reagan, “Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We do not pass it on in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children or our children's children what it was once like where men were free.” We didn't just decorate some veteran's gravesite for Christmas, and we didn't mark them to mark the end of their life but to celebrate the life of that veteran.
