The national average is down 15.2 cents per gallon from a month ago and stands 27.6 cents per gallon lower than a year ago, according to GasBuddy data compiled from more than 11 million weekly price reports covering over 150,000 gas stations across the country. Historical gasoline prices in Texas and the national average going back ten years: November 18, 2023: $2.78/g (U.S. Average: $3.30/g) November 18, 2022: $2.96/g (U.S. Average: $3.67/g) November 18, 2021: $3.02/g (U.S. Average: $3.41/g) November 18, 2020: $1.79/g (U.S. Average: $2.11/g) November 18, 2019: $2.23/g (U.S. Average: $2.60/g) November 18, 2018: $2.33/g (U.S. Average: $2.60/g) November 18, 2017: $2.28/g (U.S. Average: $2.54/g) November 18, 2016: $1.92/g (U.S. Average: $2.15/g) November 18, 2015: $1.90/g (U.S. Average: $2.12/g) November 18, 2014: $2.66/g (U.S. Average: $2.86/g) Neighboring areas and their current gas prices: Midland Odessa- $2.61/g, down 15.4 cents per gallon from last week's $2.77/g. San Antonio- $2.47/g, down 19.7 cents per gallon from last week's $2.67/g. Austin- $2.51/g, down 18.5 cents per gallon from last week's $2.69/g. "Several states saw gas prices jump or 'cycle' last week, a behavior in which gas prices climb significantly after falling below a station's replacement price. This led the national average to see little meaningful change from last week, with many states experiencing a slow decline, offsetting the few states that did see big jumps," said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. "However, the good news is that those states that saw large jumps last week will likely see some of the biggest declines at the pump this week, paving the way for the national average to fall, potentially below $3 per gallon, just in time for Thanksgiving, with GasBuddy tracking 28 states already below that level." ….Where the Holidays Begin!

by Bea Rouse Montgomery County's oldest Christmas celebration has activities not found anywhere else in the area. You will not want miss this wonderful day full of events to create memories and fun for every family member, in downtown Historic Montgomery—one of Texas' oldest towns and the Birthplace of the Texas flag. The Montgomery Historical Society, founded in the 1954, produces this, their main fundraising event, every December with proceeds going toward maintaining the seven historic buildings owned by the Society and for scholarships for a deserving senior at Montgomery's two high schools. The event is throughout the historic district surrounding the Community building at 14420 Liberty Street. The strolling carolers, coupled with the Holiday Marketplace filled with

vendors offering homemade gifts and décor, and the old-fashioned decorations in the historic buildings on the evening Historic Home Tour, will make you feel you have stepped back to the mid1800's when Montgomery was the county seat. T h e C i t y o f Montgomery sponsors the Holiday Parade which begins 10:00 a.m., starting on Liberty St. and heading north across Eva St., then winding through the downtown area. Several awards will be presented to entrants within the main categories of theme and Spirit plus a Grand Champion. For safety reasons, no candy or other items are allowed to be thrown from the floats—parade walkers will hand out candies to the crowds along the route. Parade applications are available on the City's web site or at Montgomery City Hall on Old Plantersville Road. Montgomery Historical Society's “Holiday

Marketplace—Art & Craft.” Vendors! Sign up soon for booths. Items should be homemade or homegrown. This is a great opportunity for visitors to find Christmas gifts and holiday décor. Booths are 10'x10', renting for $85, or $115 with electricity. For more information, See MHS-TX.org, and to print the (1) Vendor Letter and (2) Marketplace Application. Send a m e s s a g e t o Contact@MHS-TX.org with further questions. All prior vendors who want to return will be guaranteed a space and the number of spaces they rented last year as long as they get their applications in at least a few days before the event. However, if prior vendors wait too long, there could be someone else who might apply to sell the same items, and the prior vendor could miss out! The community, and especially the Montgomery Independent School District, fully support this popular and

remarkable event by sponsoring specific aspects from the area schools and civic groups from participating in the holiday parade to providing festive cookies and candies for the famous Cookie Walk in the Community Building at 14420 Liberty St. (No plain chocolate chip, please—to ensure this popular event will continue to have a multitude of specialty items to offer.) This year marks the 34th Annual Cookie Walk, which was created by the late, wonderful lady, Reba Laughter. This Christmas event was featured in the 1999 issue of Southern Living magazine! The Society is grateful to the Montgomery Monarchs Chapter of the National Charity League for continuing their incredibly difficult task of decorating, staging, and serving the thousands of convections for our visitor's pleasure.
