The national average is up 20.6 cents per gallon from a month ago and stands 56.6 cents per gallon higher than a year ago, according to GasBuddy data compiled from more than 11 million weekly price reports covering over 150,000 gas stations across the country. Historical gasoline prices in Texas and the national average going back ten years: October 17, 2021: $2.95/g (U.S. Average: $3.30/g) October 17, 2020: $1.86/g (U.S. Average: $2.16/g) October 17, 2019: $2.30/g (U.S. Average: $2.67/g) October 17, 2018: $2.64/g (U.S. Average: $2.86/g) October 17, 2017: $2.28/g (U.S. Average: $2.45/g) October 17, 2016: $2.01/g (U.S. Average: $2.23/g) October 17, 2015: $2.01/g (U.S. Average: $2.26/g) October 17, 2014: $2.95/g (U.S. Average: $3.13/g) October 17, 2013: $3.10/g (U.S. Average: $3.35/g) October 17, 2012: $3.51/g (U.S. Average: $3.75/g) Neighboring areas and their current gas prices: Midland Odessa- $3.34/g, down 2.8 cents per gallon from last week's $3.37/g. San Antonio- $3.13/g, down 1.7 cents per gallon from last week's $3.15/g. Austin- $3.21/g, down 2.7 cents per gallon from last week's $3.23/g. "After a sharp rise in the national average over the last few weeks, we've seen an abrupt, yet expected decline as refinery issues have eased in the West and Great Lakes, overpowering some increases elsewhere. Though at the same time, diesel prices have soared," said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. "We'll see a continued sharp drop in gas prices on the West Coast, including areas like Las Vegas and Phoenix, which are supplied by refiners in California, as refinery outages have been addressed. The Great Lakes will see prices drift lower as BP's Whiting refinery is soon to complete maintenance. In addition, oil prices have cooled off slightly after OPEC+'s decision to cut production, and that should slow increases elsewhere. Diesel and heating oil prices are likely to continue to rise as extremely low inventories of middle of the barrel products like these two push prices higher." SOURCE GasBuddy

Cornhole Tournament Raises More Than $62,000 For Abused, Neglected Children Inaugural CASA Cornament benefits children in foster care C O N R O E , Te x a s (October 2022) – CASA Child Advocates of Montgomery County held their first-ever “CASA Cornament”, or cornhole tournament, on Sunday, September 25, 2022. More than 250 tournament players and guests gathered at Southern Star Brewing Company in Conroe for an afternoon of fun and friendly competition. Presented by Chesmar Homes, the event benefited children in foster care served by CASA Child Advocates of Montgomery County. While the more than 55 competing teams stepped up and tossed away throughout the afternoon, participants and guests enjoyed live music by the Hoelscher Brothers, delicious food, a silent auction and prize basket bucket game, a Family Fun Area sponsored by Carol Knott Tefft with RE/MAX Integrity The Hometown Te a m f e a t u r i n g a

CASA Development Director, Lindsay Miller, and event co-chairs, Carol Knott Tefft and Jeanne Toth, worked for over six months to pull together this inaugural event. "The time, energy, compassion, and dedication of CASA volunteers is just amazing. They step up to amplify the voices of children whose future is uncertain, and
they are making a difference, one child at a time." Miller explains, “This single event will help CASA provide more than 28 abused and neglected children with Advocates this year." Proceeds raised at the cornhole tournament benefit CASA Child Advocates of Montgomery County. It costs approximately $2,000 to provide a volunteer Advocate for one abused or neglected child for one y e a r. Montgomery, TX - Oct. 2022 — More than 4,500 locations will open to collect Operation Christmas Child shoebox gifts for the Samaritan’s Purse project. Volunteers are preparing to collect shoebox gifts during National Collection Week, Nov. 14 - 21. Operation Christmas Child has been collecting and delivering shoebox gifts—filled with school supplies, hygiene items and fun toys—to children worldwide since 1993. Anyone can pack a shoebox! In 2022, Operation Christmas Child hopes to collect enough shoeboxes to reach another 11 million children. Individuals, families, and groups still have time to transform empty shoeboxes into fun gifts. The project partners with local churches across the globe to deliver these tangible expressions of God’s love to children in need. Find a step-by-step guide on the How to Pack a Shoebox webpage. “Now more than ever, children around the world need to know that God loves them and there is hope,” said Franklin Graham, president of Samaritan’s Purse. “A simple shoebox gift opens the door to share about the true hope that can only be found in Jesus Christ.” Participants can find the nearest drop-off location and hours of operation as they make plans to drop off their shoebox gifts. The online lookup tool is searchable by City or ZIP code. Signs at each location will identify the drop-off. For drop-off locations serving your community, visit our drop-off locator. Operation Christmas Child, a project of Samaritan’s Purse, seeks to demonstrate God’s love in a tangible way to children in need around the world and, together with the local church worldwide, to share the Good News of Jesus Christ. Since 1993, Operation Christmas Child has collected and delivered more than 198 million giftfilled shoeboxes to children in more than 170 countries and territories.
