San Antonio- $2.85/g, down 20.7 cents per gallon from last week's $3.06/g. Austin- $2.92/g, down 15.2 cents per gallon from last week's $3.07/g. "Gasoline and diesel prices continue to trail off across much of the country as summer demand fades away. Lower demand in other oil-consuming nations is also helping to lead the downward pressure on pump prices as we approach Labor Day," said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. "With little new action in the Middle East to rile up prices and Hurricane Ernesto remaining far out at sea, it looks like the downward trend could continue into the week ahead. As more schools begin to resume, gasoline demand will likely continue to ease. With the transition to winter gasoline less than a month away for the majority of the nation, gas prices will soon begin their seasonal cooling off— just as temperatures soon will as well." Elementary Recognized by Ruben Borjas, Jr With the beginning of the new school year last week, Montgomery ISD is updating its District Policies for 2024-2025. At a board workshop in early August MISD trustees reviewed changes to the student handbook for the 2024-2025 school year. As students returned to classes August 15th, they were informed of a new policy regarding cell phone use on campuses. “There is ample research available providing valuable insight into the challenges that cell phone use presents to students, teachers, and administrators,” said Superintendent Mark Ruffin. “After spending the spring listening to teachers, parents, and students, it is clear that we are facing many of those same challenges in Montgomery ISD.” S t u d e n t s i n Montgomery ISD will be allowed to have cell phones on campus. However, they are expected to be “away for the day” in backpacks, lockers, or vehicles and turned off to prevent distractions. “Cell phones create a distraction that hinders student learning and academic performance,”

Montgomery ISD Superintendent Mark Ruffin celebrates the birthday of Creekside Elementary student Elliott, on the first day of classes last Thursday said Ruffin. “It negatively impacts student discipline, leads to instances of academic dishonesty, and unfortunately provides opportunities for cyberbullying,”

The cell phone policy update applies to all classrooms, hallways, restrooms, cafeterias, and any other school property during the school day. Teachers and school staff

will monitor and enforce the policy. Students found in violation of the policy will face disciplinary consequences including See MISD , page 2
