"The national average price of gasoline has nudged higher over the last week as oil prices have continued to push toward multi-month highs. While it looks like this recent rise could b e r e s t r a i n e d f o r n o w, Hurricane Beryl is a stark reminder that hurricane season could play a role in prices in the weeks ahead," said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. "For now, we'll likely continue to see some fluctuations in either direction with the national average moving up, but as we approach August and the peak of hurricane season, there remains a risk that the national average could surge temporarily if we see a major storm in the wrong place." Montgomery Community Band's Patriotic Concert Caps Freedom Fest

by Ruben Borjas Jr., followed on Sunday, with their annual Patriotic MCN contributing writer concert at Lake Creek High M o n t g o m e r y h a d School. The MCB was in several Patriotic events this full ‘hurricane’ force with p a s t w e e k e n d w i t h its 80 plus members taking Freedom Fest on Saturday the stage of the auditorium in Historic Montgomery, located on the campus. while the Montgomery Concertmaster Luc Butler C o m m u n i t y B a n d tuned up the band to

perfection, setting a good omen for the concert. And shortly after, the band selfstarted with Rick Kirby’s ‘An American FanFare;’ which uses ‘My Country ‘Tis of Thee,’ as a base, and kicks it up a notch increasing its speed and energy. Conductor Adam

Haskett took the podium shortly after, and the MCB mirrored the energy of the piece following Kirby’s lead in taking melodic and harmonic liberties from the original score, resulting in a stunning presentation that was simply breathtaking. MISD’s Marine Corps Junior ROTC cadets, led by retired First Sergeant William Miller IV, then presented Our Nation’s Colors, as ‘The StarSpangled Banner ’ was played. The Montgomery Community Band is a great representation of west M o n t g o m e r y C o u n t y, allowing area musicians, who played in high school and college, an outlet with their instrument that they may not have played in many years. The band itself was founded several years ago by Joe Fioretti, and with practice as a band for several hours a week. It See Band, page 10

on Lake Conroe

On July 4, 2024, at approximately 8:59 PM, the Montgomery County Dispatch Center received a 911 call in reference to a female who had fallen of a boat near the Scott’s Ridge Boat Ramp, just north of FM 1097. Initial reports stated several others had entered the water in an attempt to locate the female but were unsuccessful. Montgomery County Precinct 1 Marine Division, along with Texas Parks and Wildlife Game Wardens, the Montgomery County Hospital District, North Montgomery Fire Department, and the Conroe Fire Department responded to the area arriving on location within minutes. After several hours of searching, the female who has not been identified at this time was located by rescue and recovery divers at approximately 11:30 PM. Due to conditions surrounding the drowning, Texas Parks and Wildlife Game Wardens have taken the primary role for this investigation with the Precinct 1 Constable’s Office assisting. Constable Philip Cash expresses his deepest condolences to the family and friends of the victim and reminds everyone on Lake Conroe to utilize life safety equipment whenever you are on a boat or in the water. No matter your expertise in the water, personal floatation devices (PFD’s or life jackets) save lives. This is an ongoing investigation and any additional information will be released by Texas Parks and Wildlife as it becomes available.
