San Antonio- $2.96/g, down 13.8 cents per gallon from last week's $3.09/g. Austin- $3.03/g, down 11.1 cents per gallon from last week's $3.14/g. "For the third straight week, consumers have been greeted by falling gasoline prices across a majority of the country, thanks to oil prices holding near recent lows and the transition to summer gasoline being essentially complete. While there have been a few pockets of rising prices, those have been the needle in the haystack, with nearly every single state seeing gas prices fall," said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. "In addition to gasoline prices declining, the average price of a gallon of diesel will join gasoline in the days ahead, falling below $4 per gallon in the next 48 hours or so, a sign of how far we've come. Americans are spending hundreds of millions less on fuel every week compared to a year ago, and that's a number that could rise further as prices are poised to continue trending lower this week." Father’s Life CONROE, TEXAS – Less than two months ago, Gaylon Smith suffered cardiac arrest in his bedroom, and his wife didn’t know if he would make it. He was completely unresponsive when Scharlotte Smith called 911. Fortunately, his son, who learned CPR as a part of his job as a football coach, started chest c o m p r e s s i o n s immediately. Amanda Parent, in MCHD’s 911 Dispatch Center, answered the call and talked the family through the process, stepby-step. Minutes later, MCHD Paramedics and Firefighters arrived to take over Mr. Smith’s care. He was unconscious when paramedics arrived, but they took over CPR and administered medications to restart his heart. A short time later, the paramedics confirmed that his pulses had returned, and his heart was beating again on its own. During a reunion held last week, Mrs. Smith asked Nick Smith, who was the District Chief on the call, if he thought her

Water Safety Day 2023 Saturday May 13 Montgomery County, TX – Do you know what is one of the most important things a parent can do to keep their children safe? Swimming and water safety lessons. According to the National Safety Council, drowning is the leading cause of death for children under the age of five in the United States. In 2023 so far, there have been 15 fatal drownings in Texas alone. Most fatal drownings happen when children either fall into a pool or are left alone in a bathtub, but these tragedies are preventable. More times than not, drownings are silent and can happen in 20 to 60 seconds. In an effort to spread awareness and save lives, Montgomery County Public Health, in conjunction with Texas Department of State Health Services, Conroe Aquatics, American Heart Association, Montgomery County Precinct 1, Kroger, and H-E-B, is hosting a Water Safety Day at Lake Conroe Park on Saturday, May 13th from 10:00am-2:00pm. Lake Conroe Park is located at 14968 Highway 105 West in Montgomery, adjacent to Lake Conroe, where dozens of families and children gather to picnic and swim. Families will be encouraged to use life jackets provided free-of-charge, designate a water watcher when young children are near water, and learn ways to increase the safety of all children around water. We will also have instructors on site to teach hands-only CPR. This event is free with park entry. Information will be provided in English and Spanish. For more information on drownings and prevention, please visit https://www.dfps.texas.gov/P revention_and_Early_Interve ntion/Child_Drownings/defa ult.asp. Montgomery County Public Health District’s mission is promoting a healthy, resilient community through health education, disease prevention, clinical services, and emergency preparedness.
