The national average price of diesel has decreased 0.4 cents in the last week and stands at $4.01 per gallon. According to GasBuddy price reports, the cheapest station in Texas was priced at $2.19/g yesterday while the most expensive was $4.34/g, a difference of $2.15/g. The national average is up 10.8 cents per gallon from a month ago and stands 1.1 cents per gallon lower than a year ago, according to GasBuddy data compiled from more than 11 million weekly price reports covering over 150,000 gas stations across the country. Historical gasoline prices in Texas and the national average going back ten years: April 22, 2023: $3.28/g (U.S. Average: $3.66/g) April 22, 2022: $3.77/g (U.S. Average: $4.11/g) April 22, 2021: $2.60/g (U.S. Average: $2.88/g) April 22, 2020: $1.56/g (U.S. Average: $1.77/g) April 22, 2019: $2.57/g (U.S. Average: $2.85/g) April 22, 2018: $2.50/g (U.S. Average: $2.75/g) April 22, 2017: $2.25/g (U.S. Average: $2.42/g) April 22, 2016: $1.89/g (U.S. Average: $2.13/g) April 22, 2015: $2.30/g (U.S. Average: $2.48/g) April 22, 2014: $3.48/g (U.S. Average: $3.66/g) Neighboring areas and their current gas prices: Midland Odessa- $3.28/g, unchanged from last week's $3.28/g. San Antonio- $3.30/g, up 29.0 cents per gallon from last week's $3.01/g. Austin- $3.30/g, up 24.8 cents per gallon from last week's $3.06/g. "As the nationwide changeover to summer gasoline is now behind us, at least one of the three factors that had been actively causing prices to rise in the last couple of months is behind us. However, it may take time for the largest pain point to be over: refinery maintenance. The next few weeks should see many refineries wrapping up their work and gasoline output should rise, putting downward pressure on gasoline prices soon," said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. "While Israel's retribution on Iran was somewhat surprising, it was also measured, with Iran virtually not even mentioning it publicly. As such, the price of oil has moved slightly l o w e r, f o l l o w i n g t h e d e escalation that now appears to be taking place. I'm hopeful with reduced concern in the Middle East and an end to the seasonal factors pushing prices up that Americans will soon see relief." SOURCE GasBuddy

Article by Mark H o o k e r, M C N contributing writer Photos Courtesy of Grayson Arthur This past Saturday the MISD Fishing Team sent 19 Teams to the Regional Championship on Lake Limestone. These 19 Individual Teams from both Montgomery and Lake Creek High Schools had earned the right to be there by enduring through a tough Divisional schedule and being in the top 40% in the Divisional Standings. Lake Limestone has been good to the Team in

the past, with a solid victory there in March of 2023, but this time not so much, as the Team fell into the unfamiliar territory of claiming 6th place out 52 High Schools. This time around the combined squad struggled in figuring out how to get a keeper bass to bite. This was not a productive Tournament for not only your MISD Anglers, but for most of the field from the Houston, Bayou, and Central Texas Divisions, with 97 out of the 186 Individual Teams competing failing to catch 14-inch keepers. This was due to high rising water from recent rains that was

2024 Regional Team off color scattering the fish. This coupled with the River Authority releasing water at record rates, causing the fish to be extremely fickle, and tough to catch, with only four 5-fish limits caught in the entire 186 boat field. H o w e v e r, w i t h a l l Tournaments, someone always catches them, and the MISD Fishing Team was no exception. For out of our 19 Teams qualifying for the event, MISD will have three Teams which will be moving on to the State Championship. Leading the way for

MISD was the 5th ranked Team in the Houston Division, Jacob Riley and Brenner Kirklin, who scrapped their way to a 14th place finish in this event, bringing 3 fish to the scales for 9.24 pounds. The number 20 Team in the Houston Division, Colton Hatzold and Jett Moore followed them, ending up in 38th place with a total weight of 5.05 pounds. Rounding out the three teams from MISD which will advance to the State Championship are the reigning Anglers of the See MISD, page 2

Homes For Our Troops invites Community Montgomery, TX – On Saturday, April 27, 2024, the national nonprofit organization Homes For Our Troops (HFOT) invites the community to a Volunteer Day event to help landscape Army Sergeant Timothy Brumley’s future specially adapted custom home. The new home for SGT Brumley, who was severely injured in Afghanistan, has more than 40 adaptations including lower countertops and rollunder sinks. The event will be held at 8496 Grand Lake Estates Drive, Montgomery, TX 77316 at 10 a.m. (Check-in at 9:30 a.m.) Note: the gate code for the Volunteer Day is #0427. On May 3, 2005, Sergeant Timothy Brumley was an Infantryman with the 173rd Airborne Brigade on his second combat tour in Afghanistan. During a quick reaction force mission in the Arghandab River Valley, a booby trap exploded beneath Tim, resulting in the amputation of his left leg below the knee. The Volunteer Day is an event hosted by HFOT for the community to landscape the home by laying sod and planting trees and flowers in preparation for the Veteran’s homecoming. SGT Brumley will receive his home at a Key Ceremony soon. Volunteers are asked to bring gardening gloves and will receive an HFOT TShirt and lunch. Homes For Our Troops relies on contributions from donors, supporters, and corporate partners for the building of each Veteran’s home. Currently there are 79 HFOT home-build projects for injured Veterans in various stages of completion nationwide. Community members may hold fundraisers or make donations.
