"The national average has resumed its decline after a pause last week as oil and wholesale gasoline prices fell on worrisome inflation figures showing the Fed likely to ramp up rates to slow inflation," said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. "Some nine out of 10 states saw declines over the last week, so the drops are showing up for most across the country, with the exception of the West Coast as the transition to summer blends continues, and in the Great Lakes, where prices cycled last week but have now resumed declining. For the weeks ahead, tradition tells us to expect prices to move up eventually, but that could be at least be partially offset by inflationary data that continues to be hotter than expected, leading to anxiety that the Fed will boost interest rates and cooling the economy and oil demand considerably." Forty-two years ago, on February 6th, 1981, when Coushatti Trace was founded, at least 5 Margaret Montgomery members were among the 12 organizing chapter members. Thus, each chapter has been awarded the Lantern Chapter designation and members from both chapters are eligible to purchase the beautiful Lantern Chapter pin. To c e l e b r a t e t h i s significant accomplishment, members gathered for wine and cheese at the beautiful new home of honorary regent, Colby Propes. Coushatti Trace Founding Regent Carol Hicks honored the group by travelling from Hot Springs, Arkansas to attend the special occasion. In addition, Coushatti Trace Regent Cecily Kelly was delighted to award one o f t h e c h a p t e r ’s J i l l Mahaffey scholarships to student Amanda Sanchez. Amanda will soon graduate from the Occupational Therapy Assistant Program at Lone Star College. Amanda and Department C h a i r A l m a Wa t s o n expressed their thanks for the ongoing support the chapter provides each year. Jill Mahaffey was a beloved member, who died far too young, and the chapter honors her memory by awarding two scholarships each year. Photo Right: Coushatti
