YOSAL is more than a place for high-level music education; it is an incubator for what a great society can be - an investment in a child’s confidence, a family’s hopes, and a community that believes in the transformative power of music.

Esta presentación marca la culminación del año académico 2025–2026, ¡y qué año tan increíble ha sido! YOSAL es más que un lugar para la educación musical de alto nivel; es un semillero de lo que puede ser una gran sociedad: una inversión en la confianza de un niño, en las esperanzas de una familia y en una comunidad que cree en el poder transformador de la música.
WELCOME! – Diana, Program Director
This year, we remodeled our spaces to create inspiring environments for learning and collaboration, expanded our inventory of string instruments, and added bassoons and oboes - broadening opportunities for our students. We strengthened partnerships with organizations such as the Monterey Symphony, Youth Music Monterey, the Cabrillo Festival, and the Carmel Bach Festival, opening new doors while advancing our mission. We also implemented Brightwheel to streamline operations and communication, and expanded student support by serving warm meals twice weekly along with fresh food donations from our partners at Taylor Farms.

Jeffrey de Seriere, Music Director
Dr. Jeff de Seriere is the Director of Large Instrumental Ensembles at Cabrillo College (Aptos, CA) where he directs the Symphonic Winds, Symphonic Orchestra, Chamber Ensembles and teaches courses in music theory and music history. Alongside his work in higher education,
Dr. de Seriere serves as the Music Director of YOSAL (Youth Orchestra Salinas) where he works with students in Grades 5-12, and Music Director of the San Francisco Brass Band. Prior to his return to California, Dr. de Seriere was the Interim Director of Bands and Visiting Assistant Professor of Music at Wartburg College (Waverly, IA.)

Dr. Jeff de Seriere es el Director de Conjuntos Instrumentales Mayores en Cabrillo College (Aptos, CA), donde dirige las Symphonic Winds, la Orquesta Sinfónica, los Conjuntos de Cámara y enseña cursos de teoría e historia de la música. From 2017-2020 Dr. de Seriere was the founding director of the California School of the Arts - San Gabriel Valley, and from 2014-2017 he led the nationally recognized Frederick Fennell Wind Studies Program at the Orange County School of the Arts. In 2021, he was recognized by the Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association with the “Rising Star” award for his work as an educator, clinician, and adjudicator. Outside of his career in education, Dr. de Seriere has also served as the Music Director of the Catalyst Wind Collective, Symphonic Winds of the Pacific, and True Brass Choir. In 2016, True Brass Choir was selected to perform at the California All-State Music Education Conference in San Jose, CA.

In 2015, he was a guest conductor with the United States Army Band “Pershing’s Own”. Dr. de Seriere holds a BM in Instrumental Music Education and an MM in Instrumental Conducting from the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music at California State University, Long Beach, where he studied conducting with John Alan Carnahan and saxophone with James Barrera. Dr. de Seriere holds a DMA in Wind Conducting from Northwestern University, where he was a student of Dr. Mallory Thompson.
