What’s on @ Monkton Lent Term 2026
Whole School Burns Night Supper & Ceilidh at Monkton, 23rd January
Lent Term 2026
W ELCO M E
Welcome to the Lent Term Events Programme As I begin my first term as Principal at Monkton, I am greatly looking forward to discovering the many events and traditions that make this school such a vibrant and close-knit community. The term ahead promises to be a busy and enriching one, with plenty for pupils, parents and staff to enjoy together. For those pupils approaching public exams in the summer, this term is a vital one as teachers and Heads of Department highlight gaps in skills and knowledge that need to be the focus for preparation over the next 5 months. I have already been impressed by the detailed approach the academic teams take to equipping the pupils with all they need to understand where they are and what they need to do to achieve their individual goals. I am particularly looking forward to experiencing the annual Burns Night Supper and Ceilidh, a much-loved fixture in the Monkton calendar. It is a wonderful opportunity for parents and staff to come together at the start of the year, accompanied by music from our talented pupil and staff band. Some traditions clearly endure, and I am delighted to see that kilts, while still optional, are very much encouraged. This term also marks the launch of Monkton’s inaugural Wellbeing Week. Spanning several days, it will offer pupils time and space to reflect on their wellbeing through a range of activities and talks, reinforcing the importance of positive mental health across the curriculum. This initiative sits alongside long-established favourites such as Wild Monkton and Field Days, where Prep and Senior School pupils alike benefit from outdoor learning and experiences beyond the classroom. We are also pleased to welcome a number of outstanding guest
speakers as part of the Monkton Lectures, and I look forward to seeing our Year 12 pupils develop their leadership skills through the Monkton Leadership Award. Our Chaplaincy team has a full and thoughtful programme planned, from Crossfire talks to the annual Big Escape weekend, and they will guide us towards Easter with the Prep School Easter Service at Holy Trinity Combe Down. As the days grow longer, our sports programme gathers pace. Hockey and netball take centre stage, alongside rowing, cross country and a wide range of other activities. With a full calendar of fixtures and competitions ahead, I look forward to celebrating both team and individual successes. The Performing Arts programme also offers much to anticipate. Senior School highlights include the school play, ‘Much Ado About Nothing’, Band Night and the Scholars’ Concert, while the Prep School will enjoy House Music, and the Year 5 and 6 play, ‘Moana’. We are also delighted that the Monkton Harmony Choir have made it through to the National Finals in March, where they will travel to Birmingham to compete against choirs from across the Country. I look forward to sharing these experiences with you throughout the term and to being part of the Monkton Community in this next chapter.
