Laurielearnedthatevenwiththemostthoroughplanning, mistakeshappen,equipmentbreaks, crewmembersdon’tlikethecateredlunch,youdon’tgetall thefootageyouwantedandhaveto workwithwhatyouhaveShedevelopedaphilosophyand approachthathelpedkeephersane throughalltheproductionchallenges:

Forthepastfewyears,Ihavewatchedthenews comingoutofSiliconValleyclosely.Assomeone whohasspentthelastfourdecadesliving,working andteachingintheSanFranciscoBayArea,this mightseemonlynaturalButasaformertech executiveandentrepreneurwhohastaught entrepreneurshipandinnovationatStanford Universityforalmost25years,thenews,especially thereportsofscandalsandwrongdoing,feels personal.Perhapsthenewsfeelspersonalinpart becauseIknowsomeofthetechexecsbeing writtenaboutIhaveincreasinglywonderedwhat roleI,asanentrepreneurshipeducator,playinthis ecosystemasthenewsreportspileupandbecome sosubstantialthattheycansustainbook-length works.
Inthemid-1990’s,entrepreneurshipcourseswere confinedtobusinessschoolsassecond-yearelectives forMBAcandidatesOurmissionatStanfordbecame toensurethatentrepreneurshipcourseswouldbe availabletoeverystudent,regardlessoftheirmajoror schoolofstudy.SowefoundedSTVP,anacademic centerfordevelopingandspreadingentrepreneurship educationtoallstudentsatStanfordbyoperating withintheDepartmentofManagementScienceand Engineering
