Crusaders golf runner-up of sfo.fe y Mark Chalifoux IChalifoux@communitypress.c n

The Moeller golf team tpped a strong season by finrung as the runner-up in the ate. tournament for the sec1d time in four years. Moeller head golf coach ick Bohne said the team 1emistry was the key to the am's success this season. "We didn't just have one or vo guys that carried us," Jhne said. · "We had a group of kids ho played really well togeth. They were great players but so cared about each other." Bohnell said the team's rang work ethic was another mtributing factor to the Cru-

saders' success. Not only . did they work hard in the off-season but they were also very coachable during the year, he said. The Crusaders' mental toughness was also crucial in Columbus. "They were very tough mentally," he said. "It showed at the state tournament when we ran into tough conditions, especially with the wind. They didn't let that beat them." Of the five golfers Moeller had playing in the state tournament, two were seniors, two were juniors and one was a freshman. · Bohne said that he was also impressed by the members of the varsiry team that didn't get to play.

"The way all 12 guys supported each other was important;" he said. "It's tough when you don't get to play; but I was really pleased with their attitudes." Overall, Bohne said he was proud of the. way 'his team handled pressure this year as this was the sixth consecutive appearance at the state tou~ nament for the Crusaders. "It starts with the school because..there is an expectation to do it the right way and to do it the way we can," Bohne said. "We have great support from the administration and · the parents and the kids in this program really give it all they have." ~

The Moeller go~ team consists of front row (1-r) Andrew Dom, Ryan MacEachen, Jackson Lee, Jarrett Gronauer; ·middle row, Nick Meyer, Chris Cutter, Tommy Armour, John Beringer, Simran Magowan; back row, T.J. Ferguson, Mich~el Pharo, Ben O'Bryan, and coach Rick Bohne.

GIRLS' GYMNASTICS l MIAMISBURG Miamisburg had an impressive 1Oth-place showing at last year's state meet, largely_because of its five senior leaders. Now it's up to the younger gymnasts to lead the way. The Vikings placed 11 gymnasts at state last season, and six of them return, including Lauren Taylor, a senior and the only returnee who co~peted at every event last year. Also back are sophomores Chelsea Bartley and Alexis Hiatt and juniors Jill Elmore, Chelsea Mcintyre and Carla Tuccillo, all of whom competed.at state.

BOYS'GOLFlMOELLER For the second time in four years, Moeller finished as runner-up at state, losing to Dublin Jerome this fall. Ben O'Bryan and Andre"'! Dorn led the Crusaders, tying for seventh place with a 160. O'Bryan, a senior, and Dorn, a freshman, were joined by juniors Simran Magowan, who finished. 17th, and John Beringer, who finished 33rd. Senior Jarrett Gronauer also participated, finishing 41st with a 174.The Crusaders have reached the state tournameot for six consecutive years.

GIRLS' BOWLING lFAIRBORN Last year, Fairborn rode the Fulton sisters to a second-place finish at state, But now Amber Fulton, who finished first last year with a 225 average, and Brandi Fulton, who finished seventh last season with a 201.33 average, are gone. Leading the team this year will be the junior class. That includes the Fultons' younger sister, Casey, as well as fellow juniors Audra Mrenak a·nd Roniqua Scott, all of whom competed at state for the Skyhawks last season.
