Cameron is hopeful his 500th baseball win will come today, not so muoh for himself, but so his family can get back to work full time again. Cameron was denied his 500th Tuesday when the Crusaders fell to Middletown, 7-4. He'll attempt to join only a handful of coaches nationally who have won 500 games when the Crusad- Mike ers (10-10) play Cameron Withrow (4-16) at 4:15 p.m. today. "I just want to get it over with," Cameron said. "I know my family is trying to get off work to get to the games and such and I appreciate them trying to be a part of it. I'd like to get this done though so my family can get back to work." . According to the 1993 National High School Sports Record, oilly 24 other coaches have won 500 or more games - not including Colerain's Don Colussi, who won his 500th game last season. _ _

Moeller baseball· coach Mike Cameron watched senior Ron Adkins pitch his first complete game in a 5-2 victory over Withrow Thursday - earning Cameron his 500th career win. "If you could write a script this is how it would go," Cameron said. The Crusaders took the lead when Joe Lobert singled in the go-ahead run with one out in second. Dave Lapham cemented the win when he followed Lobert's hit with a two-run triple. The Crusaders then left it up to Adkins, who had eight strikeouts. L] The killer 'schedule thiit the Purcell Marian baseball team faced this week had Cavalier coach Tom Nerl wondering. On successive days, the Cavaliers faced· the tough task of playing Elder, Moeller, St. Xavier, Covington Catholic and Hamilton Badin, all listed in the top 10. , "I was hoping we could win a couple of games and come out with· a positive attitude," Nerl said. fourth-inning single and struck out nine in blanking Moeller, 3-0, in a Greater Catholic League baseball game Wednesday afternoon at St. Xavier. If you're in the baseball memorabilia business, it doesn't get much better than this. Steve Carlton is scheduled to appear at a card show at Moeller High School Saturday. It is anticipated that on Wednesday Carlton will be elected to baseball's Hall of Fame. That means the value of Carlton's autographs probably will increase from the minute they leave Âˇthe showroom. Carlton will sign balls for $J6 and jerseys and bats for $30. "We did something right," said Glenn Isom, one of the show's promoters. "We're usually not much for a pitcher. We'll take a home run hitter any day. But with him going into the Hall of Fame, it works out pretty well."
