Adaptive Clothing with Primark

The clothing brand Primark has launched an impressive adaptive fashion range that prioritises comfort and practicality. The range includes 49 affordable pieces based on its best-selling items for both men and women. Fashion designer and disability campaigner Victoria Jenkins designed the range based on feedback and personal experiences from those with disabilities. This is a fantastic step forward for independence and inclusivity in the retail world and we hope more retailers follow suit.

Runway Representation

Aariana Rose Philip made history in 2021 when she debuted as the first disabled model using a wheelchair to work for a major luxury fashion brand during New York Fashion Week. Last month she made her return to NYFW, looking stunning in an outfit designed by the sustainable fashion designer Collina Strada. We love to see the fashion industry having more representation and we will be keeping a look out for Aariana’s future runway shows!

Scaling Summits

Hari Budha Magar has set a world record and made history as the first double above-knee (DAK) amputee to reach the highest peak outside of Asia! Climbing an outstanding 6,961m of Mount Aconcagua. This however isn’t his only achievement, in 2023 he stood victorious as the first DAK amputee to climb Mount Everest. His next ventures will be later this year as he plans to take on Puncak Jaya and Mount Vinson. We look forward to hearing more about his adventures!

Power Add-Ons

Power add-ons are devices which simply attach to a manual wheelchair turning it into a powerchair. Experience a new level of freedom and unparalleled mobility as the add-on does the work for you, allowing you to say goodbye to arm strain and hello to effortless travel. These devices can be broken down into three categories: Wheel AddOn, Pull Device, and Carer Assist.

Wheel Add-On

These add-ons are in the wheel itself. Providing extra pushing power when propelling and allowing for improved manoeuvrability. The wheels simulate active movement, reducing muscle strain and making difficult slopes and spaces an issue of the past.

Pull Device

Regain your independence as these devices effortlessly attach to your manual wheelchair and take away the need to self-propel. Conquer different terrains with ease and travel even longer. The devices are great for adventures and are often easy to transport.

Carer Assist

Ready, Set, Power On!

We held a power add-on race at the Glasgow Tigers Speedway track with Joe, Ross, Jim and Tobi from the Glasgow Wheelchair Rugby Club.

We also had the fantastic team at Sunrise Medical join us on the day to explain to the rugby club team members how easily the power add-ons attach and the amazing features these products have to offer. They turn your manual wheelchair into a powered one in seconds.

Once a product demonstration was over Ross, Jim and Tobi took to the starting line with the Empulse F35 and Joe with the Empulse StreetJet. Game faces were on, the competitive spirit was there, and before we knew it the race had commenced.

Tobi took last place followed by Ross, then Jim. Joe who started off slowly, quickly took over the rest to land himself first place! Although we won’t tell Tobi, Ross and Jim that Joe had the product advantage if you don’t.

Events Not to Be Missed

Event season has kicked off! At Mobility Solutions we started strong with our team attending Kidz to Adultz Middle, followed by having our first stand at Naidex, alongside our sister company Allied Mobility. Plus, we attended Arnold Clark Motability Roadshow in Glasgow. Our dedicated mobility specialists were ready to answer questions, showcase the latest products and arrange demos. They even had the opportunity to test a few new products on the market, ensuring we continue to offer the best range of products from our suppliers.

The Road to Independence REVIEWS that Speak Volumes

We sat down with one of our customers, Robert Jnr, to hear about his journey with Mobility Solutions and how his new Pride Baja Wrangler Scooter has made a meaningful difference in his life.

After battling a severe Sepsis infection and Post Sepsis Syndrome (PSS), Robert's mobility was significantly impacted which led him to rely on a mobility scooter to regain his independence and improve his quality of life.

I have not been out much in the past 15 months as I can't walk properly or travel any real distance."

With his new scooter, Robert is looking to the future as he comments, "the feeling of being outside again is so exciting and has built my confidence back up. I'm hoping for better days ahead as I can now get out most days."

Ahead of Autumn, we want to make sure your mobility products are prepared for your next adventure. We caught up with Joanna from our aftercare support team as she explains how to check your product before you start using it this year.

MOBILITY SCOOTERS

CIRCLE-CHEVRON-RIGHT Check brakes, lights and battery are still working especially if you haven’t used it throughout Winter.

CIRCLE-CHEVRON-RIGHT Check tyres for wear and tear, punctures and tyre pressure before your go on your mobility scooter.

CIRCLE-CHEVRON-RIGHT Check the seat and handle are still at the correct heights, are comfortable and not loose.

CIRCLE-CHEVRON-RIGHT Make sure the freewheel lever works and hasn’t seized if the mobility scooter has been out of use for long periods of time.

CIRCLE-CHEVRON-RIGHT Make sure your charger isn’t split or broken at any part of the cable. If your charger is heating up, please replace this straight away.

CIRCLE-CHEVRON-RIGHT If your mobility scooter is road worthy, make sure you have valid insurance and have registered the mobility scooter with the DVLA.
