We have a new name! Rooted in collective memory, our new name strengthens our identity as a museum and underlines the unique nature of our collection.
Little known fact: up until now, the acronym MNHA (Musée national d’histoire et d’art) could refer both to the cultural institute and the museum on the Marché-aux-Poissons. With the recent change in the law on the reorganisation of the state cultural institutes, we renamed these two entities for the sake of clarity.
We added an A for archaeology – a heavy hitter in our collection – to the abbreviation MNHA to refer to the institute, which is now called the Musée national d’archéologie, d’histoire et d’art (MNAHA). As for the museum itself, we went with a name that people have always used in Luxembourg, namely the Nationalmusée um Fëschmaart.
