YourTRUST Happy birthday NHS!

On 5th July 1948 the NHS was born and over the past 75 years it has gone from strength to strength.

Of the 325,000 people in the Dudley Borough, every person at one time or another will have accessed NHS borough services and it is hard to imagine where we would be without it. The NHS in Dudley looked very different back then to how it does today. We have transitioned from a small preliminary training school being launched in 1948, to robotic

technology and virtual wards offering the very latest in futuristic innovation. But throughout the whole of the last 75 years, one thing has remained stable and that is the tireless dedication of our staff. From porters to consultants, from nurses to kitchen staff, from volunteers to midwives, our tens of thousands of employees have strived to ensure the very highest levels of health and wellbeing for the people of Dudley and will continue to do so in the future.

Reflecting on 75 wonderful years of NHS

Chief Executive Diane Wake

A message from our chief executive Diane Wake Welcome to the latest edition of Your Trust. This edition reaches you just a few weeks after the NHS 75th birthday and what a great chance to reflect the impact the NHS has had both nationally and here in Dudley. When it was founded in 1948, the NHS was the first universal health system to be available to all, free at the point of delivery. Today, nine in 10 people agree that healthcare should be free of charge and that the NHS makes them most proud to be British. As you sit reading today, I am sure every one of you will be able to think of a family member who has worked in the NHS, a time in your life when the NHS has helped you or you can reflect on your own personal experience of working in the NHS. Like you, we are grateful for all of those colleagues who have come before us, they have set the standard in the last three quarters of a century, and we will continue to fly the flag of excellence proudly in Dudley. As you will see throughout this edition of Your Trust, we will celebrate our history and also champion our incredible staff for the innovative work they do in the present day. Our Committed to Excellence Awards (Pages 4 and 5) showcased the very best of our work here at the Trust and congratulations to all our finalists and winners. Nurses and Midwives Day (Page 9) was a great opportunity to celebrate not only our incredible nurses and midwives in 2023, but all those nurses over the past 75 years.
